trojan horse takes the modular production of artists like peggy and baby keem to its absolute extreme. every track is a fucking grab-bag where theres an equal chance of getting the best soul sample youve ever heard, grimey distorted slacker rock, or skull-piercing industrial noise. it feels very inspired by heavensouls and stickerbush just slightly less psyched tf out.

my only complaint is matt kind of feels like a placeholder mc at points, hes lacking some personality on the mic. that being said its his debut, and the production MORE than makes up for any shortcomings vocally.

this is quite possibly THE BEST rap production ive heard this year so far. matts unique rap+slacker rock sound is so addictive. the industrial elements are insane, merzbow isnt making shit as piercing as the stars intro. there are a few gorgeous soul samples, misery was definitely standout.

trojan horse offers almost everything i could ask for in an experimental rap album. matt proxy is a name to look out for without question.

really not sure how to rate this tbh, im not very familiar with drone/ambient music.

david lynch seems like a very clear inspiration on xiu xius sound. lynch has a very rambling, obtuse, eerie style of directing, and eraserhead specifically has a very grating, opressive soundscape. they both have a kind of distorted childlike quality about their art. xiu xius *2nd* official homage to lynches work, fittingly, is maybe their least mainstream-viable release yet: a 40 min ambient sound collage.

eraserhead xiu xiu is an eerie haze. samples of the film are strewn about seemingly at random, especially samples of the baby. uncomfortable sucking, breathing and weeping sounds are looped into a neverending drawl. there are a few vocal samples that are used to a genuinely scary effect. synths are also used at random intervals and are usually the loudest thing in the mix by far.

the tracklist sinks further into distortion as it goes on. viento and sleepy synth feel mostly calm, if a little uneasy. tetra is the turning point, and steampipe and smashy smashy are gloriously distorted and grimy. warbled soundscapes and crushing grit that feels like gnashing teeth. ether feels like a dim light at the end of the tunnel, and in heaven(much like in the flim) is an ethereal, yet uneasy finale that leaves with this uncanny valley feeling of peace and closure.

a complete barrage on the senses. a movie that revels in its chaos.

first off, these are hands down THE best fight scenes ive ever fucking seen. theres a constant, frenetic energy, the camera is nonstop moving, you dont get a SECOND to breath. the choreography is brutally playful and hyper calculated.

the entire movie fucking loves playing with the camera. the underfoot shots, the fractured collages of footage, the constant motion. it is a frantic 2 hours.

i rly liked the soundtrack. it was cool hearing jid in a movie, and the song 151 rum specifically was such a perfect choice. its so grimy and cinematic, just like the movie.

my only complaint is that, outside of the action, the frantic energy sometimes feels like too much. i actually had to take a few breaks because it was so overstimulating. but overall i still rly enjoyed it

a joyously sadistic, darkly catchy haze. carti strains, stretches and morphs himself into this cartoonishly aggressive vampiric thug. he switches between gutteral rage and violent shrieks, and woozy codiene-fueled stupor. at points you can feel him snarling into the mic, the saliva pooling in his mouth as he lets out these visceral yells.

cartis flows have this unique, hypnotic effect. his lean-sticky hooks grip into your brain and never let go. these rhythmic, almost cultish chants leave you in an absolutely euphoric trance.

the production is a huge part of the hypnotic effect. massive, booming bass leaves you in this dazed, out-of-body high, while the sickly sweet, sweeping synth-guitar leads further push you into a trance.

wlr is 1 of the highest highs you can experience while fully sober.

edit: i love how he puts the more abrasive/abstract cuts near the beginning, its like him embracing this antihero "give us what we need it may not be what we want" ethos

music acts as cartis experimental ground, a way to explore this formless blend of pop rap and rage. much like donda, it definitely has some bloat, but stands as a cohesive, unique album experience

music is play with sensory and texture. these confusing patchwork blends of harsh, grimey rage with smoothly polished pop. along with cartis constantly changing vocal inflections, its a fucking trip.

on the darker/rage cuts, carti favors these sinister, offkilter synth loops over super blown out drums and bass. its a rly unique sound. on the poppier cuts, same offkilter energy but with airy/bubbly synths, some horn loops, and bouncier drums.

his vocals range from his squeeky baby voice, to this deep, froggy nasal thing, to a shockingly accurate future impression.

i think music definitely has some fat that shouldve been trimmed, but my biggest "complaint" is that i wish it had been shuffled more; the way its sequenced feels awkward and clunky. it feels like a full album with 2 eps just crammed in randomly

i NEED to ramble more abt this FAAAAAHCKING movie

its suck a fucking mindfuck, its like my 1st time watching uncut gems but on crack

that finale was just pure euphoria, i was WEEPING, after more than 2 hours of pure fucking tension injected into my veins, finally taking a breath was just heaven.

the whole power dynamic between lockjaw and perfidia is so well done, lockjaw is a rly interesting character study of this like racist perv playing with his power (i feel like its a rly common thing irl and ppl dont talk abt it much). i love his mannerisms, his lil faggy ass walk lmao.

i love the white supremacists being called the christmas adventurers club, it feels so fucking good to just be able to laugh at pathetic nazis instead of fearing for ppls safety irl.

the movie is soul crushingly heavy, fucking hilarious and absolutely euphoric. pure perfection

omfggggggg i hate to say it, but it kinda beats out sinners for my 2025 moty. i think their both perfect, and sinners had a better, bigger impact widely. but for me, emotionally, obao takes the fucking cake
