making miss crickets head part 4/4

november- having finished up with sewing and gluing it was the end of an era and i finally cleaned up all my pattern pieces. first thing i did after this was hide the raw edge on the ear. i just pulled a strip of minky until it curled in on itself then glued it down.

similarly i did this with the nose (and once again ordered a fabric sample of this color to do so lmao).

next was the eyes! the eyes are made on buckram and colored with copic markers. i was originally going to buy some eyes because i dont like painting but then decided to hell with it ill just fuck around and find out. and then i did. i tried different colors of eyes before deciding on amber/yellow.

next was teeth! i made foam teeth out of that moldable cosplay foam stuff. originally i was just going to do top canines but found that bottom teeth looked better. i was tempted to add a full set of teeth but decided against it (lazy)5. theyre still held with pins (and also lopsided) in this pic but they were eventually glued down

finally, to finish the head i added felt around the mouth. i was literally dreading this part so bad because any time i put felt there it made her look like she had big unnatural lips. it still looks like that a little to me but after actually gluing it it didnt bother me as bad

and here her head is all completed!!

november- i started on the neck as well as the head back. i like the necks to be tight so it looks like bobble head-ish and was really excited about hers (bc the neck pattern looked rly good), but either i didnt pattern it correctly or the head just was too wide to make it work and it eventually didnt turn out how i intended. not a big deal though

unrelated but i really like this pov picture of her after the neck was on. it just looks so frumpy.

i also started working on the head back. learning from the first time i just decided to see how the colors look on there by tacking them on (thats why the first pic looks so icky). eventually decided on a pattern and it looked beautiful after shaving <3

finally got both ears on and was able to start patterning them!

i didnt take any picture of this part, but i finished patterning the ears and got to glue her face down (MILESTONE). sewing together the front and back of her head was hard but my best friend ladder stitch pulled through for me. after gluing i was able to start clipping and shaving her! i really enjoy clipping because it makes it look so much more crisp. i broke a few stitches in the ears during shaving (you can see one on the left side in the bottom pic) but i fixed them up later. at the end of pattering the head i had (IIRC) around 80 individual pieces i had sewn together

october- colors decided on! starting with the insanely tedious act of creation <3

halfway through i decided i really hated that black strip running down her nose so i started putting things over it to to see what looked best

eventually decided to take the black strip off and had to fill in the line it left. i was NOT about to cut out and redo pieces i had already sewn (even though i should have, it would have looked smoother) so i just added in small pieces where the black used to be. that part sucked so bad.

mid october i had been working like a madman on the sewing, so a lot of her face was already done. i changed up my original design a bit too, adding that dark brown spike in the middle of her forehead. this eventually becomes my favorite part of her whole design

november- i finished up with sewing her face! to be continued because i can only add so many pictures on mobile

july- get head base (nuke creations red panda base) in the mail and start patterning. (prematurely, i hadnt even picked colors out yet)

august- ears patterned and back of head added. inside lined with neoprene and minky

september- pattern drawn out! lining for the nose and ears complete. i only glued down the back of one ear so i could make sure the other ear was placed right once i get the sewing done. the nose fabric was actually just a fabric sample lmao-- i didnt wanna buy a whole yard for just that. also i patterned the neck!

october- colors picked out and the process of pain begins. (to be continued)
