torrential downpour [a.f.i.]
Spontaneous moments were never present in yours and Ashton’s relationship. Ashton loved treating you and taking you away for weekend breaks but surprises were never your thing. Not having everything organised and having spent hours looking at your destination sent your, otherwise mild, anxiety in to overdrive. Ashton understood this 100% and he reassured you it wasn’t a big deal time and time again. But you knew Ashton, it killed him having to include you in organising every date and trip you two had. He was the epitome of spontaneity and surprises.
When Ashton had invited you to join him and the rest of the 5SOS crew on tour, you were reluctant to say the least. After a lot of thinking it over you decided maybe it would help you. You had been asked almost a year in advance so this gave you plenty of time to look in to each date and become somewhat familiar with the place.
Ashton was ecstatic when you agreed. He had always said that whenever you attended a show they were always his best. You were his lucky charm. As the start of tour creeped closer, you were really looking forward to it. You had a feeling, this would be one of the best years of your life.
Just over halfway in to the tour and you were having the time of your life. There was something extremely liberating about travelling around the world and watching your boyfriend doing what he loved almost every night. You were currently in Verona, Italy where the boys had just played in one of the most beautiful amphitheatre you had ever seen.
The day had been spent with you reciting Romeo and Juliet quotes to the boys which didn't take long to get old. You watched the show from the sound booth this evening and it really was something special. The sun began to set about halfway through the show and it was truly magnificent. The boys always preferred playing outdoor venues and now you could clearly see why.
After the boys came off stage, you hung out in the dressing room for an hour or so. Zoe, the boy’s tour manager, told you that bus call was at 4am tonight. At this point you and Ashton would usually retreat back to the bus where you would watch a movie or just sleep. Sometimes Ashton would join the other boys when they went out partying but that happened maybe once or twice every 3 weeks. Verona was such a beautiful city, you couldn't bear to leave without exploring more so you decided to take a leap of faith.
“Ash?” You called across the dressing room to your boyfriend who was currently looking at some of the photos from tonight's show.
“Yeah?” He replied without looking up from the computer screen.
“Let’s go exploring tonight.” Ashton’s reaction was utterly priceless. His head shot up, his curls bouncing in the process, a look of shock and confusion etched in to his features.
“Exploring?” He questioned.
“Yeah, exploring, like let’s have a look around the city. It’s really pretty here, I want to see more of it before we leave,” you explained.
“Okay, of course, let’s go. Come back to the bus with me so I can change in to less sweaty clothes,” he grinned.
You walked hand in hand through the venue to the back where the buses were parked. Ashton changed in to a pair of shorts, a vest and a hoodie and you decided to change in to a comfier option of yoga pants and an oversized t-shirt. You slid both yours and Ashton’s phones and backstage passes and your wallet in to your purse. You strolled through the streets of Verona, stopping a couple of times to take a picture.
“This is nice,” you grinned at Ashton and wrapped your arm around his waist, pulling you close to you.
“It is,” he pressed a kiss to the top of your head. “What made you want to come out?”
“I don't know. The show was so beautiful and I’m just sick of letting my anxiety control me. I’m really happy I built up the courage to come out. There’s not too many people around and I just feel relaxed and chill, ya know?”
“Well, I’m very proud of you. Whenever you want to head back, let me know and we can go,” Ashton said.
You started to feel small drops of water dropping on your head. In a matter of seconds, it was like someone was pouring buckets of water from the sky. You shrieked and Ashton took your hand. The two of you ran to shelter in the doorway of a closed store. Ashton shook his, now soaked, hair and sprayed you with water in the process.
“It’s just a shower. It will pass in a couple minutes,” Ashton said. You nodded as goose bumps raised on your arms. You cuddled closer to Ashton to try and steal some of his warmth.
“You cold?” He asked as he began to pull his hoodie over his head.
“You’ve only got a singlet on. You’re gonna be sick,” you said as Ashton tried to put his hoodie over your head.
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine, lovey,” he said and pulled the hoodie on you. You gave in and raised your arms so they would slide through the sleeves easily. Ashton’s hoodie was huge on you. It reached just above your knees and the sleeves totally covered your hands. The rain showed no signs of stopping after 20 minutes and it was nearing the bus call time.
“Should we call a cab?” You suggested.
“I have no idea where we are and I don’t speak Italian,” Ashton chuckled. “I think we’re just going to have to make a run for it.”
Ashton took your purse so it was easier for you to run and the two of you took off. You ran through the streets of Verona, following Ashton’s lead. The rain poured down, seemingly getting heavier as you ran. It soaked through your clothes to your skin.
After what felt like hours of running, you finally reached the buses. The doors had been closed, probably because of the rain. Ashton knocked as you stood shivering and wet. Luke opened the door to see who it was and his eyes widened in shock at the sight of you two.
“What were you doing out in that rain?” Luke asked as the two of you hurried in to the warmth of the bus.
“We were exploring,” you shrugged. Ashton was gone to get you some towels and you were looking for dry clothes for the both of you. Ashton returned with the towels and he helped you peel off your sodden clothes. You quickly dried off and put on the fresh clothes you had found.
“We should go exploring more often,” you said as you made hot chocolate to help warm up.
“Maybe we should check the weather next time.”
