Anyone know who is this hot dude?🔥
Prep him.
Seriously, Sebastian Stan really needs to be recognized for his talent, especially regarding this scene. Watch his eyes going from the first gif to the third.
Bucky is full of rage and defiance, even into where they’re pushing him down. The instant he makes contact with the chair (not his head, but where you see his legs connect with the seat), he remembers what’s about to happen…again. His colour even changes. His face goes from a somewhat healthy pallor to absolutely blanched white as his eyes are radiating terror/despair/innocence. And then in the fourth you can see he’s back to the veil of rage and brooding. He’s retreated. That scared, very young man is shoved back into the box in The Winter Soldier’s head, and he’s got his walls up again.
Someone give this man an award.
That’s incredible.
This is why it kills me a bit when people say you don’t see any emotional response from Bucky because you DO. His head should be nothing but mush by this point. He should be blank from being wiped and rewiped. But because they need him to be able to make decisions while on missions, they can’t just erase everything he is. Pierce even has to talk to him like they’ve convinced him to some degree what he’s doing is GOOD. But Bucky is still in there. He’s confused and injured, but he’s in there. There are too many flashes of defiance and temper and FEAR. He’s lost and alone and hurt and SO out numbered and so so young. He doesn’t know what’s going on except he keeps being hurt over and over and things are being demanded of him over and over and there IS no win for him. If he does what they ask they hurt him. If he doesn’t they hurt him.
Sebastian’s bread and butter is playing fragile, brittle characters in pain. But he went above and beyond here because Bucky IS still intimidating and scary…but it also becomes PAINFULLY obvious that he’s abused and afraid and confused. And he does all that and maintains Bucky’s dignity. You feel horrible for Bucky, but he never comes off as truly pathetic. His body language demands respect even though it’s not being given to him and that is GLARING in the movie. It makes the viewer repeatedly think “how could they DO this to someone like that”.
