There was a Black Lives Matter protest last night in Tel Aviv. Some of the responses have been that this was hypocritical because of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and that just makes no sense. 

I was at that protest. It was led by Black Israelis, Black American immigrants to Israel, and Black Jews. The main focus was on solidarity with victims of police brutality in the US but the organizers literally said we can’t ignore the context of being in Israel. They included Palestinians, Ethiopians, Jews of color, and talked about police brutality here. They talked about Iyad Halak and there were signs for him too. 

It’s really frustrating how people act like Israeli citizens are all agents of the government. Do people in other countries agree with everything their government, police, and military do? No. The same is true for Israelis. 

Police brutality and racism has to end - in America, in Israel, everywhere.

Brutality will end when Israelis decide that this land was for the Palestinians and Israelis brutally occupied it.. Israelis wanting peace is like someone coming to your home and destroys all your furniture then says: lets just live together and forget about it.. and then requests the master bedroom... bruhhh😪
