idk how this started actually but at some point i began sharing headcanons about STARS shenanigans + leon over on my twitter and began receiving prompts through my strawpage that grew to be me regularly sharing other headcanons about leon and other RE characters.
it has grown so much to the point where i now want to archive all my posts on tumblr for its more extensive tagging system and for people to have a one-stop shop for things! you can find my dedicated page on it (and links to the tags) over here.

some era specific leon headcanons into the archive. featured in this entry: RE4R, damnation, death island and infinite darkness. both damnation and death island have two asks each because they're big n greedy. these are a blend of general hcs/thoughts and some can also be read as leon x reader / leon x anyone

re4r leon has a lot of trouble sleeping. habitual early riser.
physical touch is hard for him, but he loves watching you sleep. if he’s sure you’re out cold, he’ll ghost his fingers over your features.
eye contact is very important for 4R leon, too; when that smart mouth isn’t running he’s listening and looking at you. can’t get enough of trying to memorize all your features.
tbh in general 4R leon falls into the category of leons who like to Stare. he’s probably one of the biggest offenders
he’s a little awkward, evidenced by the way he responds too often with just “okay” when the situation demands literally Any other response lol, hasn’t shaken this and won’t for another few years
his hero complex is arguably the strongest at this stage - it doesn’t completely fizzle away as he grows older, but i would say he’s very adamant about doing a Lot of stuff his way.
despite the strict diet + water intake, i imagine this leon has the tendency of seeking out strange or unusual snacks. part of it is that he’s training that stomach to handle anything and the other part is definitely curiosity. though he has his comfort foods, probably the kind of guy who likes the chocolate covered potato chips

i quite enjoy damnation leon. jaded and sardonic, the gravity of his loss is carried differently in this age, and anger/resentment supplants much of his pre-existing sorrow. this is where those early flowers of disillusionment begin to bear fruit.
this leon has - in a sense - made some peace with his demons, enough to know that the answer is to keep living (with some tough love to boot!)
and as the title of the movie suggests, this leon is certainly one to tempt you to perdition (couldn’t resist): flirtatious and assured, pushing your buttons comes to form with him - getting on your nerves and then some with the highest quality silver tongue (where it counts - those jokes don’t really end with this one).
unafraid of physical touch, he’s now comfortable with initiating things himself or maybe even goading you into doing something (his preferred method)
rest assured, though, there’s still something sweet underneath that sly gaze. nights when you can smooth out that furrow in his brow and he preens under your attention are the best.
this is also definitely (and as evidenced) where one begins to notice that he begins to pick up the bottle a little more.
IIRC, damnation takes place in the same year when the DSO is founded - depending on when, that “transition” period before the DSO takes root might have also contributed to that snarky attitude prior to the events of 6

leon pulled a few strings months after the events in the ESR to send a small card and a gift to alexander
dinner + movie dates are very common. he has the bug for it in this era, and you can’t really wrap your head around the why!
the transition between 2 and 4 in weight/muscle gain is one thing - add another five years and that final build of his really takes shape here. too many all american breakfasts are certainly the reason behind how good he looks in that tiny little dri-fit shirt he’s got going on
there’s a pretty good time jump between the last time we technically see leon (ID) and damnation. a lot probably (read: definitely) happened in those 5 years - maybe a break in between, when you thought things wouldn’t work. its hard to picture leon as the on-again, off-again type - but if i had to name a period in which that devotion is tested, the gap between ID and damnation is probably a good bet.
once he’s yours again, however, you’ll be hard pressed to shake him from you again.
you christen the DSO offices. not just once.

-> Something about DI Leon makes me crazy, do you have any DI era specific headcanons for him?
death island leon has such a healthy glow to him. i’ve talked about this before but this leon is definitely in a better place mentally, a little adjustment goes a long way - i think this leon is making it up to you in many ways after that low point.
he gains a little weight here, all the more to use it against you of course
physical touch returns with a strong vengeance, as well as his cheesiness. takes you on lots of dates, big and small, when time allows.
this is a good, healthy leon. there are days where it’s cloudy, of course, but this leon during this time is wonderful. you can throttle him for being a dick and he’d laugh and apologize. and keep apologizing
all leons are silver tongued devils, and DI leon reminds you of this quite often. uses that smart mouth for good (and evil), tells you he loves you morning and night.
semi related - he’s frisky. fun. pushes your buttons to new heights. gets you in trouble (unintentionally) and faces it with a shit eating grin.
he is 38 in death island - this is where those greys start peppering the hairline a little. he might get sheepish if you poke fun, but he’s getting back at you later.
this might be (if you choose to view it this way) where he pops a question.

ID leon is a little more himself - there’s a lightness that wasn’t there before, but he’s still teetering on that professional, brooding edge. things are still fresh for leon but you get the start of that real polished feel in combat/expertise
he’s still awkward, even if his lines land a little more fluidly here – more likely to ask you right out to dinner, more likely to speak to you instead of letting his eyes linger. that charm starts to become more purposeful at this stage to use on people
his hero complex isnt as stringent as say 4R would be- he’s still letting it flare but you can sense that there’s a dampen in it if you consider the transition from 4-degen-ID
i talked a little before about how the origin of conflict with Leon across all eras is that he tends to fall into lapses of silence - things he won’t tell you + you don’t really know what he’s thinking. this is the start of those lapses of silence feeling intentional. and they are - we saw it with claire. the degree by which he tends to cover it with that silver tongue depends - sometimes it lands, other times it doesn’t (and he stays silent)

thank you!!! as for go-tos, it’s dependent on era but i am a strong proponent of kissing. it is probably the first thing and last thing he’d do to his partner every day/night -> no he doesn’t care about the morning breath, it’s all gravy for him

i do! this made me consider the others and i made the kiss tax meter (see above!) in general, this is how often or how severe leon charges his kiss tax. vendetta and re4r have a little trouble expressing their normal affections for their beloved, but the others merely grow in severity as needed.
re2/DI/damnation are the absolute worst about it, the tax rate goes up every second and he is taking it out as much as he can. because . those eras are the greediest. not that the urge doesnt exist with 9 and 6, but they are a bit more well behaved methinks

these two would be interesting together i think if you chose to look at them romantically. jill is fiercely independent and leon is super clingy so i think him being head over heels for her and her being unaware is certainly the way i’d picture them. do not rescue him when she’s yelling at him he is right where he wants to be (t4t jilleon who’s up with me)

platonically however - i personally think they’d be fun romantic rivals in the sense that they both infatuate very quickly and it’s fun for me to picture leon getting rejected and jill being like You Are Like Little Baby, Watch This and then she also fumbles (contingent obviously on if you think jill is sapphic/wlw but atp who doesn’t think that)
i think they are perfectly unbiased toward one another - neither of them would try and sugarcoat things when they’re trying to get advice. i think they feel that they can both be explicitly honest with each other without having to worry about something like Redfield Temper (for either chris or claire)

thinking about them romantically is a little difficult - i do think that chris’ tendency to break rank with his superiors would lead him to reluctantly take her up on a shared agreement of working together.
if anything, what manifests first is desire + adrenaline. there’s a degree of tension in thinking of them as somewhat forbidden. the chase of it - it’s ironic even!
however, chris is an individual hardened by loss and grief - i think ada understands him in this way. i think chris would come to know that there’s something else, more than the false memory he has of her (that he later learns is carla) and there’s interest in unraveling the truth.
i was reminded of that bit from gone girl (JUST THIS LINE LOL)
“when i think of [ada], i always think of her head. i picture cracking her lovely skull, unspooling her brain, trying to get answers. the primal questions of any [relationship]. what are you thinking? how are you feeling? what have we done to each other?”

i think hunk is one of those characters that i personally can’t fathom having personal attachments and that’s purposeful… whereas ada’s emotional appeal is only ever challenged or brought forward when someone prompts her to reflect on that mercenary mind belief (as evidenced in separate ways, particularly remakes)
HUNK would have more potentially narratively if we had more evidence of the mission mindset taking a heavier toll on him, but i don’t think we have enough of it to determine this fully.
not to worry tho this is what the fanfic is for
i think if that was the case for ol’ HUNK that there would be that degree of relation, but i think HUNK’s commitment to the mission and seeing it through to its end VS ada’s decision making as not being confined to strict rules puts them more at odds than anything

i think there’s a sense that richard looks up to chris in more ways than one - chris would no doubt reassure him that what happened with his sister wasn’t his fault, but it was hard to shake that feeling from richard entirely
chris would have understood his sacrifice for rebecca better than anyone (outside of Rebecca ofc), but it would have eaten at chris for a while if they were together :(

these two are ooey gooey touchy feely. their ideal spots are with each other. you often find luis reading a book on the couch and using leon’s back as the hand rest while leon’s got his face buried into luis’ stomach.
luis will often cook with music going - he will rope an unwilling embarrassed leon into dancing with him in the kitchen but he preens under luis’ careful attention
heat sink and heat sink. warming up between them is a bit of a challenge
leon likely becomes entirely fluent in spanish but can’t shake the accent - luis thinks this is VERY cute
luis is an adventurous eater, but often delegates whatever he doesn’t like to leon who will begrudgingly finish what luis doesn’t

claire’s a big eater. leon has a moderate appetite. they have to switch their plates often at restaurants because people assume he gets the big plates but that reservation is all for claire.
leon likes that she can be hot tempered, which pairs well with his button pushing tendencies

the first victims of rebecca’s “shitty grocery store smut” book club. they share a single copy between them and their annotations often “talk” to one another
claire is impatient and leon is quite patient -> if they’re in a line together he is probably using his weight to his advantage to get her to stop floundering around in frustration
claire’s primary love language is quality time, followed by acts of service.
they didn’t actively get together as a couple until a few years after the events of ID. that friction between their respective career paths likely put a wrench in things for a while.
bonus: another headcanon i personally enjoy that addresses the boulder in the room - as an overprotective brother is wont to do, chris did threaten leon when he found out. i imagine it went a little something like this

oomf said this once and first but i also subscribe to the idea that the desire to stay together and maintain a sense of normalcy outside the events of 7 is primarily ethan’s desire (delusion?) and could be tethered to the mold itself as a remnant of eveline desiring a family
i also love that mia is selectively honest with ethan after 7 knowing he was mold the entire time. it makes me think of the end of annihilation (2018) a bit
on the mold: i think ethan displaying little subtle behaviors to imply differences is fun to play with. sunbathing and following the sun when he wasn’t doing it previously, being a heat source prior to dulvey and afterward being a heat sink, etc
ethan being from california/west coast makes the most sense, and i think mia is a native texan
ethan cried a lot (happiness) when rosemary was born.
ethan’s love language is acts of service and mia’s is words of affirmation

fond of museum dates. frequently international ones, if their schedules allow. a bit of normalcy for the both of them, they’d go around nitpicking how certain artifacts obviously don’t belong in some museums in specific countries (and of course joking with each other)
leon’s collection of trinkets of ada’s don’t end with the ones signed with a kiss. ada has the habit of leaving small gifts in leon’s apartment from her travels. their refrigerator is likely full of fun magnets
heat sink + heat neutral. ada is often hiding how spooked she gets by his cold hands
ada will obviously indulge leon’s need for physical touch. she often runs her fingers over his cheeks and remembers how cute and ruddy they used to be. she has trouble telling him no when those big blue eyes beg to stay in bed longer
-> do you have any metaltango/kreon hc?? I feel like Krauser def has internalized homophobia, letting it show by being extra hard on Leon during training 🙂↕️ I love exploring their dynamic, I wish we could see more of it from capcom
though the remakes paint a bitter picture, i do think there were some periods that krauser might have enjoyed the rookie prior to OJ, especially when that smart mouth made its unusual appearance.
when i think about them having a relationship, i think about it particularly in the after of things. it’s hard for me to paint them together during training because it’s unlikely that they would have ever gotten that close. i think if leon had a moment where he was vulnerable with someone else prior to OJ, jack would have resented him from that moment on.
krauser in leon’s care in a “he lives” AU is quieter, metaphorically muzzled now that he’s been defanged. leon is surprised by this, but he sees it an opportunity for the two of them to start over - on equal footing.
it takes months like maybe even close to a year or so for krauser to admit that he loves leon verbally. leon would be patient through the whole time - and might even make fun of him for it once that fluffy feeling passes

whether they adopt or otherwise, i do think that they’d end up with a kid in a bit of a hectic way (as it was written)
i somehow think if they have kids the organic way (regardless of the hardware configuration if you get what i mean) that it’d def be unplanned
i think their family dynamic is definitely that one meme of the kid getting scolded by one parent and then the other gets into the picture only to end up also being scolded (leon being scolded of course)
though leon is quite the nervous parent, he is strong willed when claire feels like she’s doing something wrong. claire doesn’t struggle too many times especially when it comes to others’ opinions on how to raise kids, but sometimes she gets in her head
chris redfield number 1 impromptu babysitter claire doesn’t gaf it’s just oh you’re not busy? think fast chucklenuts take my child i need 2-3 hours of quiet time

yes of course! here’s a few:
jake maintains his lithe nimble limbs easily through regular gymnast/yoga practice. his mom used to take him to lessons as a kid before her illness got worse; she used to regularly do yoga at home and he would mimic her and they’d do it together 🥺
jake being the unlikely piano whiz in game is easily explained - he is obviously the child of one of the most intelligent individuals in the franchise, and is probably the kinda guy who is automatically good at anything on the first try. getting jake to do something, though, is a challenge.
though notoriously expensive and demanding with his money, he is pretty heavy handed on buying or donating. kind of guy who earns a bit too much and donates anonymously to avoid being flagged down but also because he knows what it’s like to be out of money, and needing it.
-> What do we think Jake gets up to after 6? :0
jake my tender, oozing blossom. do we even think his name is short for like. jakob or something? anyways. it is implied that he continues being a mercenary/gun for hire, highly efficient but ludicrously expensive. he is likely a thorn in everyone’s side but i'm unsure if he'd work for more bad actors over being someone who likes to disrupt them - sent in to clean up over extract, you know what i mean? also - jake and sherry as "starcrossed" doesn't seem likely. i imagine that while there's been some time apart, he'd be on his best behavior just to spend some time with supergirl 😌
-> Do you have any Sherry/Jake headcanons?
naturally! i love them lol day 100 of me asking to see them together again:
jake maintains a relatively low profile due to his status as a mercenary. when he takes prolonged periods of time off, he is happy as a clam to be regulated to house duty. cooking, cleaning, you name it. he’s happy to do it to take the load off sherry’s shoulders
as the first headcanon implies, jake is big on acts of service + gift giving. sherry’s love language is quality time + words of affirmation.
when the timing allows, both jake and sherry will make visits to his mother’s grave. it was his way of introducing her.
they love to go to farmer’s markets. sherry inherits annette’s stress baking and likes to source choice ingredients and jake likes to feel a little normal / unhidden in public and that’s a good venue
sherry is secretly relieved that claire approves of jake lol

-> What is your opinion on people saying Leon finally got medicated/therapy after Vendetta because he seems much happier in Death Island cuz it's only a year apart?
as a whole i think a good chunk of the conversation around leon’s depression/alcoholism/ptsd is generally flawed in the sense that i think some forget or don’t consider that recovery/“progress” isn’t linear.
for many, medication and therapy helps, but it doesn’t wipe away symptoms in its entirety. it is often adjusted and it serves to shorten “low” periods or make them less severe + extend the time between them.
the year or so disparity between vendetta and death island can “feel” like a whiplash but is overall consistent with leon as we (the audience) know him - and the same can be said with any other RE character. imo a lot of vendetta leon’s characteristics are explained a bit more in depth in the novelization (not that writing across the RE series is ever fully consistent LOL) but i think to say that leon “finally got” therapy after vendetta which would explain death island is a bit flippant.
this is moreso speaking to ptsd/depression re: medication (antidepressants are often used to aid in managing PTSD), but this is how i see it and my personal opinion.

though i don’t think leon is opposed to tattoos, i think its def an opsec issue in his later years and also he probably got stuck in that feedback loop in his 20's of
i want that tattoo -> would that look good on me? -> doesn’t actually get the tattoo/forgets about it (rinse and repeat)
-> Any Leon bootcamp headcanons?
he does NOT miss it, that's for sure.
bootcamp was hard. leon had a lot going through his head, from sherry to claire to ada, to even what was going to happen to him. it was likely a deeply isolating time, and leon often wonders how he was able to get through it himself (as we saw)
i am of the proponent that hair regulations didn’t apply to him not because he negotiated to keep that mop but because the governmentt was actively developing that anti-BOW group. he could keep it under the guise that it would allow for more normal appearances while on top secret missions (which is is a thing, the army does have personnel that hair and makeup regulations do not apply to!)
to this day he gets nauseous if he thinks about all that “vitamin enriched” food and slop that was served to him
those bootcamp fatigues were probably burned or kept in a random box in storage.

this list is meant to encompass how likely your leon is to utilize evil tactics to tickle you and/or get in your space. answers to the other asks below!!
-> TBH since rookie leon is a puppy I think he's very playful and annoying. death island might squash you with his weight and then tickle you but re2 can and Will bribe you with a hug and then attack.
hehehe there was a reason i said he was MAYBE on his best behavior. the rookie has some tricks up his sleeve and uses those beautiful blue eyes to lure you into his trap
-> Aw imagine playing some shitty horror game with Death Island Leon and you are very scared/focused and this dork suddenly tickles you from behind. at least you aren't scared anymore!
this habit of his + including being light footed and silent has probably landed him getting punched square in the face before … or at the very least, hit by the controller of your console 😭😭
some elaborations on leon's era-dependent sadness and a longer post / response about conflict with leon!
-> About the sad Leons. I like to think RE4R Leon is very cuddly because he is very sad and being plastered to your side is his only peace of mind. Meanwhile Vendetta Leon is an angry kind of sad and probably avoids you so he doesn't accidentally snap at you (he'd feel awful if he did)
i agree, but i hold the belief that 4R leon is so guarded and closed off (at first) that it takes him a while to get to the point where he is either comfortable to ask for it or believes he is deserving of the comfort. Vendetta era leon is certainly a “rough patch” for a relationship, and i do think vendetta leon would have the habit of pushing his partner away. he might be more likely to say something hurtful, as it is a “low” point, but as you say, he is QUICK to realize his mistake and would feel bad (though it’s debatable if he would do something about it)
-> I'm curious what you think Leon would argue about with a partner (or honestly, what habits he has that might annoy someone and make them argue with him haha)
good question! i think a lot of conflict between leon and his partner would lie in what he doesn’t say.
leon has the tendency to put himself last, and that may lead to decisions that are possibly reckless or unnecessary. he may withhold things from you or push you away as a result, and that creates conflict because his partner WANTS to help. that “lone wolf” complex isn’t the healthiest and i think a lot of any potential conflict in a relationship is in that withheld information/lapses of silence. maybe it feels like you don’t really know what he’s thinking. i think that secrecy is the worst thing.
he might even be resistant to you prying, too, and walk away from conversations he might not want to have. in addition, the drinking might be a thorn in the side of your relationship, especially if he lapses in and out of periods of excessive consumption.
as for more daily annoyances - he drinks from the carton in a hurry. he might not always clear his hair from the shower. he can be passive aggressive and mask it with a quip. he is a bit too reckless when driving. he might also not tell you when you’re running out of/are out of something. he is BAD at texting and calling you back. he can get a little cagey about his partner out of over-protection (and conversely that button pushing he does is hard to reign in) and he probably always puts in the toilet paper the wrong fucking way !!!
-> I've always pictured Infinite Darkness Leon as sadder than RE4R. RE4R seems a bit guarded and hardened but easier to crack. Infinite Darkness is just... so sad :( And Starting to grow into a loner
they are more alike than they are different!! there is a sort of a “classic” feel to ID leon that i don’t necessarily find in 4R…the joking is a bit more natural with ID over 4R (leans awkward) but the depth of the “sad” feels fresher with 4R, but ID leon feels more professional. ID Leon's sadness is much more "lived in" than 4Rs.

i think leon has a small library, he’s not necessarily a staunch bookworm per se, but that scene in death island makes me think he has a lot of nonfiction. maybe someone else would think his non-fiction choices are boring but he’s happy to read it. he has an approximate knowledge of many things!
when i think of big bookworms, my mind immediately goes to rebecca, luis and sherry. rebecca and luis probably have the problem of “buys new books to read but their TBR list is massive”, whereas sherry doesn’t have this issue. luis has a penchant (of course) for rereading the classics!
rebecca and sherry have a good blend of fiction/non fiction ratio, and i can totally see rebecca’s curiosity leading her to pick up those cheesy grocery store smutty love novels. i bet she’d rope someone else into reading them with her lmao
ada also enjoys a fair blend of fiction to nonfiction. i think she probably has a lot of books on international theory and geopolitics that fill her nonfiction space. she doesn’t enjoy the theory per se, but it’s more about dissecting differing perspectives on global events (that she can apply in her line of work, what with negotiating with power people and whatnot)
when my mind wanders to chris, i feel like he’d inherit a fair bit of books from barry. some practical bits and guides, but for all his tendencies he likely has a lot of cookbooks. and as an alternative, i’m sure chris has plenty of subscriptions to news/journalist outlets that he shares with claire.
i think jill is also someone who inherits some books that accumulated on barry’s bookshelf, too! i think she likes to flip through magazines as a mindless activity, but maybe also has a penchant for crime fiction (she snorts when she encounters something unrealistic, all things considered.)
mia and ethan’s shared library was also quite varied, in my opinion. ethan still had a bunch of old engineering literature from his university days (“just in case you never know”) and mia had a pretty good horror novel collection. it probably collects more dust now than anything…
there's so many more but this is where my brain stops for now!

mia and sherry strike me as the e-reader type - something small and practical that they can take on the go or on the move. the other readers likely prefer physical books! while e-readers aren't the same as staring at screens, i think it would likely be more of the mental blockage of having Yet Another Screen that it would deter them. plus, the book smell is a nice change of pace!

there’s a small book club rebecca runs with the trashiest, smuttiest, most terribly written books you could imagine making circulation. i imagine she gets claire and leon into it first, with leon then roping in hunnigan (rip luis you would have fucking loved being in this bookclub)
