Things to Do with Plushies that aren’t Traditional Pretend Play

If you regress/dream to an older age range, you might not play pretend as often, if at all. That said, there’s no reason why you still can’t enjoy your plushies’ company.

Cuddle them as you go to sleep. This one is pretty obvious, but I think it deserves a place on this list.

Make them little Kandi collars with their name in letter beads. You can make a matching bracelet or necklace for yourself too!

On that note, sew clothes for them and dress them up. This one might require some supervision because of the pins and needles, but it’s usually worth it.

Set them up so that they look like they’re doing the same activity as you are. (Putting a controller in front of them if you’re gaming, pretending to feed them bits of your meal, setting them up in front of the TV so they can enjoy the programs with you, etc) This one veers into pretend play, but it’s not as involved so I figured I’d include it.

Put them into your purse/backpack/bag so they can keep you company on your errands or other trips you take.

Set them up in nature or around the house and take photos of them. You can even scrapbook with the photos.

If they are sturdy enough, give them a bubble bath and then either stick them in a pillowcase and put it in the dryer, or air dry them in the sun. This is good for bonding with them, and general maintenance to keep them clean.

Write about them. You can make little character profiles for them, or even full stories! This is good if you have a hard time playing pretend but you still want to feature them in imaginative contexts.

Draw/paint pictures of them and hang them on your wall!

Finally, if this is something you’re up for, set up a side blog for your favorite plushie and document their life online. Make blog posts from their perspective, have them take “selfies” etc!

Toys/Stuffies PSA!

Here’s a few things I wanted to remind you about your toys and plushies! It’s important to remember!

✨ Your toys love you so much!!! You are their best friend, don’t forget that!

✨ Toy Story is fictional! Your toys don’t feel sad or upset when you don’t play with them for a while! They understand, and they’re happy regardless. When you get new toys, they’re happy to have new friends!

✨ Stuffies need to be washed. Make sure you give them a nice warm, relaxing bath occasionally. Stuffies don’t breathe like we do, so they enjoy being soaked underwater sometimes. They’re also very flexible! Ringing water out of them and scrubbing them is like a nice massage!

✨ They like the washer and dryer! It’s like a theme park ride! Just make sure it’s gentle, you don’t want them getting hurt!

✨ If you wake up, and a plushie is on the floor, don’t feel bad! That means they went on a super secret mission to make sure there were no monsters hiding anywhere

✨ There are plenty of ways to play! There is no one way to play, so don’t feel bad if you don’t interact with your toys the same way as someone else, or even if you don’t have any toys! Here’s a post on some non pretend play ideas!

✨ If you can’t keep a toy, don’t worry, they’re not upset! It’s just the beginning of a new adventure for them!

✨ It’s okay if you struggle to give your toys names and personalities! As long as you like them, that’s what matters!

Personally, I love thrifting my plushies and toys! It’s like reaching an animal from a shelter, versus a pet store! :3 all toys deserve love 🩵

Agere/Kidcore Journal Ideas

Finally caved and made a happy, colorful, kidcore journal about a month back. It’s really helped with my mental state. Here are some highlights:

1. Document time passing. Log each day something interesting happens. Draw little emojis conveying your state of mind in fun crayon. Nothing is too little to report.

2. Do crayon/pencil testing. Get a new pack of colors? You have a whole journal of paper! Test that out!

3. Packaging from toys or etc that you like? Glue that in there. Stamps. Stickers from fruit. Collect it. I have a whole page that’s just stamps, banana stickers, and tea tags.

4. Did a friend send you a meme you liked? Print it out and glue it in so you can always have it.

5. Speaking of printing, if you have a printer at your disposal, print tiny pictures of things that remind you of happy parts of your childhood. A screenshot of a childhood edutainment computer game. The cover of an old storybook. The “And Viewers Like You. Thank You” screen. Those wooden shapes everyone played with in kindergarten. Fill a whole page with images of happy memories.

6. You going on an adventure of some sort in the future? Draw a whole page of the things you plan to bring with you. Maybe a portable game console? A plushie? What backpack will you be using? More importantly, do you have any ideas of memories or items you want to bring back?

7. Do you see birds in your neighborhood when you go out? Find out their names. Draw them. Where else can they be found? What do they eat? What color are their eggs? What do their songs sound like?

I was finally able to get a book to use as my agere journal, I had been holding off getting one and telling myself I didn’t n e e d one and that I was wasting money. But I said forget that and got one on a whim yesterday.

*If you have been holding off starting an agere journal but you think it would benefit you or you’d have fun doing it. This is your sign to start one!! Even if it’s a notebook from the dollar store, printer paper kept in a folder, or a fancy sketchbook. You deserve it, I know you do.

Here’s what I decided to do on mine for the very first page, but there are thousands of ideas out there or you can completely create your own.

I also added some stickers on the cover, it was super fun, sadly I only have a few at the moment. You can decorate yours however you’d like, go wild! Add stickers, paint it, make a collage of printed out images of your favorite things, etc.

Little Journal (And how to make them)

I personally don’t journal but my brother does so he’s helping me make this post! (Thank you for all the helpful Ideas Mick! <3) Lots of people keep diaries and journals! They can help collect your thoughts, process things and even a way to show off all the stuff you like!

First (and most importantly) finding a journal! There’s different types like bullet journals, sketch books with all blank pages, or ones with lines. You can find journals everywhere. Some places I recommend are - 5Below, Wal-Mart, Target and Dollar store! You can also get decorating supplies at these stores! Stickers, crayons, glitter pens, fancy tape, stick on gems…

My favorite thing to do is decorate the color and make an “about me page”. Some people put “[names] little journal” on the cover but if you’re afraid of someone finding it you can still decorate the inside cover and put “[names] little journal” or whatever you want the cover to say!

Another thing you can do is have an online journal! If you’re unable to get a physical one you can use programs like Google docs, Google drawings, and slideshows to make a digital journal! There’s lots of ways to make your digital journal look pretty. some questions to think about if you’re designing your dream playroom :)

🖊️ how big is it? small-ish, like a walk-in closet? medium, like a bedroom? large, like a living room? maybe huge, like a castle? be as creative as you want! it doesn’t matter if it’s unrealistic.

🖊️ what color are the walls? are they all the same color? are they lots of different colors? are there any decals on them, or a mural?

🖊️ what’s decorating the walls? framed pictures? mirrors? is there a sensory wall?

🖊️ what does the floor look like? hardwood, tile, carpet, foam playmat? if there’s a rug, is it shag, fluffy, or something else? what color is it? are there sensory tiles?

🖊️ describe the lighting. is it bright or dim? how many light sources are there? can they change color? are there fairy lights? ceiling lights? lamps?

🖊️ are there any windows? how many? how big are they? do they have blinds or curtains? what can you see outside the window?
