#5: Yes Please by Amy Poehler

I, like every other human on the internet, fucking LOVED THIS BOOK. I have too much to say about it and it's overwhelming me. All the feels. There were parts of this book that I need to hear, excerpts that made me feel good and justified in my actions as a female still figuring out her stupid 20's. It made me feel empowered. It made me want to be best friends with Amy Poehler, most of all. Please read it. What are you doing right now? Stop it and go read this book.

#4: The Book of Unknown Americans by Cristina Henriquez

I hadn't even heard of this book when I randomly picked it up but I couldn't stop reading it. The characters in this book are so thoroughly well written that I found myself reading more purely out of anxiety over the feelings and general well being of the characters. That rarely happens. I loved this. All of this.

#2: This Star Won't Go Out by Esther Earl

This book is beyond something I could ever review because it means too much. Esther Earl was a beautiful, talented and amazing girl and it's an honor to read her poignant and genuinely life changing words. Yes, it's the diary of a girl struggling to beat and ultimately losing to thyroid cancer so it's beyond heartbreaking. But more than that, it's full of hope and the importance of loving the people in your life and actually showing them. It's sad, yes, but so funny and so honest and so fucking wonderful. Go read it.

She spoke about having her whole family around her, holding hands with them, feeling connected to these people who loved her infinitely. She used that word at some point referring to her family's love, infinite, and I thought about how infinity is not a large number. It is something else entirely. It is boundlessness. We live in a world defined by it's boundaries. You cannot travel faster than the speed of light. You must and will die. You cannot escape these boundaries. But the miracle and hope of human consciousness is that we can still conceive of boundlessness.

#1: A Mercy by Toni Morrison

This is the only book I've read so far this year because I couldn't cheat on it with another book. It was too good. I savored the hell out of this book and I didn't want it to end. But it did, and it was beautiful and amazing because everything Toni Morrison writes is beautiful and amazing.

2014 Book Challenge

So I've been doing my 70 book challenge since 2010 and I'm not going to lie, shit is getting tough.

This year, I'm just going to read however many books I want (MAYBE EVEN MILLIONS! ALL THE BOOKS!) and review them. I'll still be doing periodic book giveaways too!
