In what way could Mello be autistic? (Sorry, Idk much about autism so I'd like to know)

When I said itās possible that Mello could be autistic too, I mainly meant that there isnāt necessarily something that speaks against it. And even though a lot of us are very visibly autistic/neurodivergent, there are lots of symptoms that are basically invisible if you donāt know someone well. So thereās that.
If weāre talking about headcanons (not about the intentions of the creators), itās pretty much impossible to disprove that a fictional character could be autistic. I certainly donāt ever feel the need to do that, even when I donāt see them that way at all.
That being said, Mello does have some characteristics associated with autism:
the most obvious one would be the fact that we only ever see him eating chocolate (= samefooding)
(also the way he often methodically licks it before he eats it, haha)
kid!Mello seemed to dislike shoes (just like L and Near)
Iām pretty sure itās just his personal style, but there are many autistic people who only want to wear certain materials/have a strong preference for certain materials - that would be mainly eather in his case - and/or colours
later he always wears gloves, and there could be lots of reasons for that, but many of us hate to touch things/people directly, so him wearing gloves could be interpreted that way, probably + thereās the fact that he also often holds things in an unusual way
it wouldnāt surprise me if he had an extremely high pain tolerance with what he goes willingly through
his angry outbursts (thatās unfortunately something many of us struggle with)
his unusual facial expressions
I guess he has empathy issues
and - again, like L and Near - he has his preferred sitting position:
Iām sure thereās more, but these are the main reasons I understand why other people see him as autistic (& I personally neither agree nor disagree with that headcanon).
