My final evaluation question complete.
Question 3:
What have you learned from your audience feedback?
In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
Here is my final double page spread promoting my final documentary.
My final, finished documentary
My finished radio advert promoting my documentary, Rewind to the 80s.
Codes and Conventions of Radio Adverts
The radio is often used for advertising purposes, radio stations such as Heart FM rely on advertising, and for advertisers, the idea of being able to catch the attention of a listener is very important. That is why there is often a set of codes and conventions to follow when it comes to radio ads.
For example, most radio adverts are 30 seconds long and most of the time include a clever, catchy jingle. These jingles often include the slogan of the company/business which for the listener can be easily picked up on and sung time and time again in there heads.
They also tend to include brief information, the information provided is short due to the ad only being 30 seconds long so therefore the voiceover has to be carefully selected to ensure that everything can be heard clearly. Sound effects are also crucial in some ads to link the voiceover, music and purpose of the advert.
A look at a few radio adverts and what makes them successful.
Following on from the three double page spreads that i found and took inspiration from, I created a short questionnaire to decipher what it was that people liked. In total I asked 10 people their opinions and gained valuable information from them.
A closer look at the three initial double page spreads that caught my attention. I dug deeper into how they present themselves and what makes them eye catching.
When looking into double page magazine spreads I found a great selection online that were of particular interest to me. I really like the creativity of the first double page spread, however although its simplicity was clever its lack of a main body of text meant that for me, it would not be suitable. On the other hand, the other two double page spreads both included a large body of text perfectly suited to what I could base my double page spread on. I feel the build up of layers may be too complex for what I am trying to achieve however I will not rule it out. I will follow up my initial research on double page spreads by creating a survey asking people which double page spread out of these three they prefer and why.
A deeper look into who will be involved and where I will film my documentary.
A look at my original shot list along with some time planning, showing when I can and can’t film due to commitments. However I will try to film whenever possible.
Closer look at the timeline of events for my documentary
My first timeline for my documentary including the scenes I plan to film.
My finalised idea of my documentary following on from my developed idea.
