his expression changes immediately, he never knew this— she continued if she ends her throat might tighten again, trying not to put on a cry show for him. "you were...."

jeno was ready to interrupt and pull him to his warmth. however, he wants to hear her, even if it aches him seeing her be vulnerable— "you were good at everything." his brows were furrowed tightly, trying to understand her.

"you were talented, sporty… everyone liked you, friends and even strangers, you gave me everything i never asked for, and i kept wondering if i deserved it and how i could ever give back what you gave me, since gifts were your love language." now, it was jeno’s turn to receive all that killings.

once she starts, she never ends it, so she kept going, even though tears were spilling. "you do all these things for me, even how complicated, showing up even your busy, remembering everything, even niche things, supports me through stupid things or smart things, and all i could really offer back... saying thank you"— he was speechless because he knew she offered so much too both mentally and physically for him, which instantly made his world feel better and motivated him to keep going and spoil her.

before he can even interrupt she continued, "i know it sounds so stupid even annie said that to me. however, it felt like you gave me parts of yourself so much, and it stresses me how i can't match that. i don't deserve you because i'm too..."

ordinary, before she could say the word, she broke down completely her walls had given up. likewise, jeno knows the word maybe because he walked that same path as a kid— he was signed up for every lesson day and night so his parents could prove that their son is talented. the word “failure” became ingrained in his mind; his parents pushed him to be strong and hide his emotions, even telling him that crying is a sign of weakness.

how could this even be the same situation for her? maybe the first time he saw her in the cafeteria their eyes met for just seconds, and that brief moment completely changed his life; after many dates, she made him feel truly loved, not someone who constantly questioned his achievements or his next goal in life and never asked him to be more— she was the first to reassure him that he didn’t have to prove himself everyday, and the first one to tell him that crying isn’t a sign of weakness.

all he wanted was to hug her, not because she was crying though maybe that was the reason— "do you think that's all you've given me?" it was his turn to speak she didn't answer, though the silence itself had already told him everything he needed to hear.

yn felt someone breathing on top of her head and when she looked up there he was standing in front of her, how didn’t she hear his steps? her knees felt weak especially when he leaned forward, trapping her in the corner of the tall shelves— she swore she was at the door but how did she end up in the corner of the living room? the room suddenly felt too warm— "i liked being around you because you made me feel like i didn't have to prove anything all the time....

you were the only person i never felt pressured around to show you my achievements and the way i have excuses to skip something just to be with you, unlike before the excuses were me being sick and in the hospital time to time, because they do not believe my body struggles."

wow a crazy plot twist for both of them as they realize they love each other in completely different ways— she feels insecure coming from a family where money was a problem so whenever she got a gift all she can do is say thank you. on the other hand, for him who comes from a place where he was controlled head to toe, and now that he’s finally free, all he wants to do is spoil her with all of the love language, showing his gratitude.

her eyes stung before she could stop them, realizing once again how badly they misunderstood each other. It had been a crazy day for both, and neither knew how this could have happened on this day; neither was prepared, yet there they were alking about it.

23. right thing to do

the hallway was too quiet for Yn's liking. sure, it would be quiet because no one is always walking in the hallway, but there's something that smells too odd, and for a girl who can read the room, she should be alerted, but it's her friends of course they are not planning anything behind her back. Well, except keeho

at 273 annie’s apartment, she unlocked the door with the passcode, barely even opening the door as she noticed the light was far too dim for a party. shaking her head in disbelief, she wondered if the whole 6 pm party thing had been a joke after all.

"hello?" she peeked her head through the door, but there was no answer, so she had no choice but to step fully inside she set her purse on the floor, bracing herself for keeho's jumpscare, but nothing happened. but, she suddenly froze spotting something far scarier than keeho— jeno sat on annie’s couch, staring at her as if he were waiting for her.

before the girl u-turn, the door slammed behind her as she flinched— "ANNIE'S ORDER SO TALK NOW OR FOREVER PEACE" "DUMBASS IT'S HOLD YOUR PEACE" "SAME THING." she knows that voices, it was keeho yelling outside the door and gawon who is correcting the boy's grammar.

silence absolute silence; they betrayed her. the feeling was different, heavier after a whole year without any proper explanation, even though how it hurts the warmth from both of them still lingers, and the love was still clear— it was no joke but they didn’t expect this to be how they would meet again; jeno knew since annie had threatened him an hour ago.

neither yn nor jeno said anything for a while, the silence between them almost suffocating. the girl was still in shock, her eyes darting to the ceiling, the floor, or counting the lights— because in her mind, looking directly meant trouble. meanwhile, the boy was watching her quietly and patiently waiting again.

the girl who once clung to him had become a weirdo who distanced herself from him. it hurt him so bad, how did they go from this type of feeling they swore it wouldn't happen—

he speaks first, breaking the silence carefully and quietly, "the floor would melt off." silence filled in, "you've avoided me too much now yn" straight to it as he thinks of annie's advice being straight into it, tell your thoughts you want to say to her. likewise, for the girl who was silent and caught off guard as he continued to speak,

"i have a lot of questions, and i know you have answers to that" first kill, "where did i go wrong?" double kill, "i give you a lot space, maybe you will tell me in the end" triple kill, "you said we will fix everything together" quadra kill, "you didn't even ask for my opinion at all as if you shuts me down i keep it calm but... i'm hurt" pentra kill.

that hits harder than she expected because she understands it perfectly, and they put that rule when they argue; communication was their priority.

the girl decided to look at the poor boy after all, she doesn't deserve to act like when in reality he was the real victim when looked at him she winced, seeing jeno finally smile a little but it was small, and tired as if he had waited for years for explanations....

she looks down at her hands, avoiding his eye once again because she knows this part when she watches those drama, this part was the hardest part ever, always was; he noticed she was struggling, he couldn't help but reassure her "take it slow and easy yn" her throat tightens so bad because after she had done he still understood her as if to calm her down.

piece by piece, it slips slowly he deserves to know it— jeno watches her carefully, waiting. "i thought breaking up with you was the right thing to do."

“why are you eating already? help us set this up”, “driver tax" keeho shot back, tossing grapes into his mouth smirking clearly taunting gawon who glared at him “Boy, shut the fuck up annie drive the other half.” he two argued like it was life or death, on the other hand the two girls paid them no mind and tried to set the blanket quickly.

the setup was done and then— "AH!" the three immediately turned to gawon, who was now crouching and holding the back of her head. It was silent—absolutely silent as they just stood there, completely stunned and trying to process what had just happened and hear her scream bloody mary. the three glanced at the ground seeing a blue frisbee on the ground near her.

"HELLO?" keeho called out breaking the silence followed by annie. "Oh my god, gawon" she asked as she crouched over the girl who was still holding the back of her head asking where it hurt. meanwhile, yn stood still as she looked to her back to locate where it came from since she and gawon were beside each other. i guess it was her lucky day not to get hit by it, but unlucky for the other one.

meanwhile, in jeno's group it was total chaos especially for haechan, who was utterly shocked, backing away from the scene he had created as he heard her scream. "that looked painful, dude" mark said, wincing as he looked at him, as it was followed by chenle and jisung, "wasn't that supposed to go to yn?" jisung asked innocently, only for chenle to smack him and tell him to shut up so they wouldn’t be heard by jeno who was minding his own business.

Everything went back to normal, likewise with the poor girl who still complained about it and pouted when Annie told her no when she suggested throwing the frisbee back at the suspect, as keeho being keeho laughed at her fate.

yn was quiet, something shifted a minute ago as she glanced behind her she was sure she saw someone far away when she tried to find the person who hit gawon, her eyes might be blurry, but it felt familiar— like a warm feeling tingling her heart.

019. according to the plan

It started like every other sunny afternoon: there were just enough customers coming in and out of the café, but it wasn't overly crowded. Y/N didn't give it much thought as she entered with her arms linked to Gawon, who was already talking about something. She brushed past strangers and made her way to the table where Grumpy Keeho and Smiley Annie were waiting with coffee in their hands, instantly noticing us due to Gawon's height. It didn’t seem to hold any meaning in Yn’s mind. At least, not yet.

"Took you long enough," Keeho said, glancing at the two who had sat down. "Shut up, said the one whose situationship failed," Gawon said, doubling down as Annie snorted from the two. The four of them talked a little about Keeho's love life, and all that he did was listen and play along for Yn, or else Annie would kick him under the table every time he disagreed with having something with the barista from the usual cafe they go to.

The bell above the door rings as Chenle, Haechan, and Jisung walk in first, followed by Jeno and a yapper Mark. They spot Annie’s table almost instantly. Yn's back was facing them just as planned. “Oh look, it’s them,” Jisung says excitedly, but Chenle and Haechan quickly shush him to avoid ruining the plan, and he falls silent immediately. Annie, Haechan, and Chenle exchange a small nod before casually making their way to the designated table in the left corner by the big window, while Yn’s group sits at a middle table on the right side, according to the plan.

They sat down following Jeno, who wasn't looking around the shop, simply sitting at the vacant seat, the same as hers, facing back.

Annie cleared her throat quietly, just enough to catch the tall girl’s attention. Gawon. “Can you order my drink, Yn?” she asked the girl chatting with Keeho. “Why?” she said, “What do you mean by why? First of all, I deserve it after waking up two—” Before she could finish, Yn stood up. “Fine fine” she said, grabbing her phone and wallet to get the order for Gawon and her, walking to the line to order. Gawon smiled victoriously, Annie chuckled, and Keeho just scratched his eyebrow.

On the other side of the group, Mark and Jisung were sent to order all the drinks, and they complied: They stood in line where there were 5 people in between, as Yn ordered. It was a normal day for both, unlike the rest who were watching like hawks. The clueless girl returns to the table, holding a cup of iced coffee in both hands, and sets it down in front of the other girl, who thanks her with a smile. She starts to pull out her chair to sit, but halts when she hears a familiar laugh, certain it belongs to someone she knows. The laugh is unique, yet she brushes it off and glances at her friend who gives her an innocent look. shaking her head as she takes her seat.

The time passed quickly, with half-finished drinks and endless conversation. Yn’s friend decided it was time to head out, gathering their things and tossing away the trash before leaving the café, heading to the left where Jeno’s friend still sat by the large window, watching each passerby.

It was a breath holding moment seeing Yn's group pass by outside the café, almost, just almost... there—until the breath they held escaped when they saw the group stop as Keeho's luck, he realized he’d forgotten something inside. Groaning, he drew the girl's attention, no longer in the street, while Gawon cursed at him and told him to hurry up. Jeno glanced at his friend, who seemed to have spotted something outside. He brushed it off, figuring it was just another one of their usual behaviour. But if Jeno had seen the commotion his friends were acting to, he’d probably be acting strange too—because right behind him, outside the window, was Yn’s back.

She really messed up. Why did i agree.... thinking she could just ignore it and move on, was a mistake. Now, she’s sitting on the couch, feeling like she’s about to vomit everything she drank. She inhales and exhales repeatedly, trying to calm herself down, regretting what led her to this situation. Just as she's preparing for another round of breathing exercises, her phone vibrates. Tensing up at the notification, she sees his name on the screen: Nono 🐶🤍, along with a photo of him on the screen. She prays, "All Saints, please pray for me."

Putting the phone near her left ear and feeling nervous, she waited through 5 seconds of silence before accepting the call. She could hear a silence in the other line, not until, "Hello?" Damn, that voice. She paused for seconds before replying, "...hi."

“Why are you guys talking so akwa—”“AAAH!” she screamed, dropping her phone. Turning around, she spotted Gawon leaning against the wall, arms crossed. “Dramatic much? tsk” Gawon said as she walked toward the couch, where Yn was still covering from the jumpscare, forgetting that Gawon had stayed over because she lives far away and Annie is too tired to drop her off. “Can you not scare me like that?” Yn asked, glaring at her, “Geez, my bad that you’re such a scaredy-cat,” Gawon joked, raising her arms in mock surrender, giggling as she sat at the couch's armrest. "I thought cats and dogs weren't a good match... but why are you talking to him?" Gawon said sarcastically, pointing at Yn's phone. Forgetting she was on a call with Jeno, Yn retrieved the phone and saw it's still ongoing, quickly ending the call to deal with Gawon. "Why did you hang up?" Gawon asked. "So what?" Yn replied, feeling irritated. "Can you just go home? Don’t you have somewhere else to be?" She pulled the girl who had been

resting on her armrest to her feet and playfully backed away. "Damn, I didn't know this call was a secret meeting," she laughed, noticing the distressed look on the girl's face as she walked toward the door. "Well, I apologize for interrupting the meeting. I'll get going now," Gawon said as she finally left her alone.
