the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be a part of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

I think ao3 is literally the only site where no censorship means no censorship. you can post the most vile things on there — things that will get taken down on any other platforms — and ao3 will protect you, your works, and your rights to create whatever you want, however you want.

and no, this isn’t me saying “write that messed up, disgusting thing” because while, yes, write it if it’s what you want (I myself enjoy writing dark fics, something I believe would be considered “vile” to a lot of people), this is me saying in a world of censorship and capitalism, ao3 really is a treasure.

Ok ok. So, I just saw another post about someone commenting their opinion on generative AI (aka Gen AI). They said that Gen AI steals from creators, basically saying it’s a terrible invention and should not count as a “tool” but an adversary towards creators of any kind.

And while I can understand why they say that, and I’ve seen many creators being very against Gen AI, I’ve also seen other creators creating stuff with the help of Gen AI. Whether it’s songs or AI audios (there’s a LOT on Yotube) and, honestly, they all seem like tools for artists to realise their imaginations. This contradicts with what the people against it say, unless I’m misinterpreting something.

Now, I’m not saying I’m siding with either side. I know it’s always a bad thing when you’re too extreme on one side of a spectrum, but I wanna know your opinion.

What’s your opinion on GenAI?

I think GenAI is a good tool, and I would recommend it to anyone!

The reason I asked (feeling like I should explain this) is because, where I come from, everyone is either praising ai or ignoring its existence (that’s what it feels like for me). My country’s GDP mostly relies on the technology field, so it’s not a real surprise when everyone thinks AI is God Technology-fied. I think one of the reasons opinions like this are a lesser voice here is either because the media doesn’t report it or, honestly, we don’t have as many creative talents here in comparison to all the ones who are engineers or doctors or something related to the scientific field.

We are kinda extreme.

I actually drew Adrian back in March last year. In the Modern AU, he and Vincent are engaged, and Castiel is with Sebastian.

In the French version, his name is Adrien.

uhhh...let's start with the screenshots.

Plain ol' Wyanne shenanigans, sitting on the railing, sleeping in weird positions and waiting for Em to come back...

Back when I kept Emcy's appearance a mystery, I slapped on the coolest mask (in my opinion ofc) I could find on the menu. They're much more calmer than Wyanne. Now that I think about it, I don't think their hair very much appreciates the hood.

Anyway I'll break the rules a bit and show Emcy's look.

Bound by Shadows of Grief The OG version of Universe A, which I call Universe 0. It's my first HL fanfic (idea), and I never had the energy to finish it. Here's a quick summary of it, cause it's got 50+ chapters.

1890, December. MC died in the final battle. They died heroically, saving the wizarding world from the evil clutches of Ranrok...but at what cost? With letters and futile words, Sebastian is left to deal with the guilt of never apologising for his actions all alone as his life becomes overshadowed by grief from losing a dear friend. But MC's death has brought more mystery and danger, as Sebastian finds himself and his friends being threatened, kidnapped, and hurt. What's worse is that a strange Hufflepuff suddenly appears in his life, seemingly trying to take the place MC had once occupied...

Anyway MC is Emcy, the Hufflepuff is Wyanne, and originally Wyanne was going to get killed after Sebastian and everyone else confront the Gaunts (who were behind the threats and kidnapping, and also the formation of Anne's curse). Marvolo would hold Wyanne and Anne hostage and make Sebastian choose. Whoever he chose, Wyanne died from suffocation anyway. The first part of the epilogue was gonna be Wyanne and Emcy reuniting (who were actually half-siblings) and the second half was Sebastian getting his happy ending.

So I abandoned this for a few reasons: (1) I was very busy by the time the 50-something chapter came out, (2) I had writer's block and realised I kept making Sebastian go through the same loop--the only writing I'd done before this was stuff for school, (3) I thought the plot was cringe.

Maybe I'll rewrite this story and make it an official Universe. Idk.

Peace and Storm

This one was...I believe a Secret Santa gift for @/sallowslove . I wrote it for her MC, it's a short piece, but it was fun, and helped me explore a different side of loss (I was also working on the OG Bound by Shadows of Grief at the time).

The last one, I wouldn't call it my work, because it's just a translation for @/tamayula_hl 's fic, which the og is in Japanese. It's pure smut. It did help me practice how to write and describe those activities, and also a real shock for me the first time because, well, hentai is much more descriptive than the smut I've read before. Loved doing it, and I'm still grateful to this day that she let me translate it.

Routine:

After their regular morning routine (brush your teeth, shower, wash your face…), they read the Prophet and scan for any news of a new threat. After school, every Tuesday and Friday, they’ll scan the highlands for any weird activity. They go back to the castle at 8:30 (if they can), do their homework, and go to sleep at 11:00pm. They’ll wake up at 6:30 on weekdays and 9:00 on weekends or holidays. Their late schedule is why they stopped growing any taller after 15 years old (not that they needed it anyway lol). After graduation, this routine is gone with the smoke coming out of the Hogwarts Express (thankfully)

They have a specific way for each order and angle for the small things in life, but it really shows before they’re eating. They assemble their cutlery to their liking before dining.

They comb their hair a lot. Maybe it’s to calm their nerves, maybe it’s just that their hair gets tangled easily, but they brush it a lot.

Normal Life?

In each universe (all of them are canon, I don’t care what anyone says. Ha!) they get a different ending.

Universe A — Emcy dies in the final battle.

They had a normal childhood, but definitely not a normal last year. Since they died, they never got a normal life afterwards.

Universe B—Emcy searches for Wyanne (who died in their “first life experience”).

Everything is mostly the same as Universe A until Sebastian hits Wyanne (instead of Solomon) with the Killing Curse. After Emcy defeats Ranrok, they devote themself to finding Wyanne in another universe. They travel through the fourth dimension (aka time) just to look for a timeline where Wyanne didn’t die and they got to live with her. Anyway, in Universe B, this is where they find Wyanne (actually a girl who got isekai’d). The two will go on to lead a normal life, after a LOT of trial and error and grief on Emcy’s part.

Universe C—anything other than Universe A or B.

Absolutely! They’ll go on to become an author (their dream job) while being an amateur artist. They also like to do detective work, which really helps with their writing, so they’ve got an Investigator Firm in London. Occasionally they work with the Ministry.

Emcy Catchphrase: Wake me when you’re sane. Not very Emcy, you may say, but this is the type of stuff he has to say. Look around him! Teddy, Wyanne, Sebastian, and not to mention all the other friends he’s got?? He’s surrounded by mischief and rebellion. Hell, he fought a rebellion.

Teddy Immortality: He’s gonna go crazy with this. Omg, he’s immortal??? He’s gonna do so many things, the list will definitely be endless because the world evolves and he’ll wanna do new things. Oh, you say his friends will die? He’ll just find them when they’re reborn! He’s very positive about this.
