“The who?” Kaley asks confused.
Code: Why is Louis such a failure?
“It is one of the greatest mysteries of this world. Let us know if you ever find the answer to that.” Brady says smirking.Louis is scowling.

"That doesn't look like a scratch." Frisk says.
“What-” Immediately, Ruby stiffened - before they quickly shoved their sleeve down over their bandages, red eyes widening. How… they bit their lip, before turning around to face Frisk. They… they hadn’t expected anyone else to be here - they were usually so careful. “Of course it is a scratch - what else could it be?” They frowned, locking their eyes onto Frisk’s.
“Just don’t try to take that whole responsibility on yourself either,” Ruby said quirking a brow. “Remember, people can handle what goes on their own universes most of the time. I’m sure most people can handle whatever comes to their universe. Don’t stress yourself too hard about it.” Personally… they would hate if somebody had come to fix all of their problems. Ruby and their friends weren’t incapable. But working with others had it’s perks also. “But we all are stronger together… let’s just hope that working together like this doesn’t mess up something that was supposed to happen in one of our universes… you know, like that theory if you kill Hitler, something worse is going to happen. Probably not, but hey, who knows.”
Ruby paused at the next question as they walked, tilting their head. “Uh, well… you know what, that’s a good question, but it’s mostly due to a variety of factors. First is that the Underground already has a lot of water and moisture in it - especially in Waterfall. But unlike Waterfall, the caverns of Snowdin are much higher, the ceiling above is way higher. This helps allow clouds to form. And while Hotlands is closer to the center of the Earth, Snowdin is closer to the peak of Mt. Ebott, where is is naturally colder due to being up so high and…” Their cheeks had grown slightly red as they talked, realizing they had gone on a rant. “Um, sorry about that -” A slightly nervous laugh escaped them. “I don’t usually go on nerdy tangents… but I did used to want to be a scientist when I was a kid.”
By now, the two of them had properly hit the city, the buildings slowly beginning to rise. Occasionally, a few people and monsters alike walking around gave the two of them a curious look - recognizing Ruby from somewhere, though at the moment, Ruby gave the stares no mind.
“Me? Well, I’m not the best at giving nicknames…. though I did come up with my nickname, and Auriel - the Frisk from my universe - their nickname. So…” Ruby trailed off for a second thinking. “… I would say salt to match ‘Pepper’, but you’re not really that salty are you?” Ruby chuckled. “Just… give me a moment. It’s hard to think of a name that is pretty, y’know, ambiguous…” Already the gears were turning in their head, going over a list of names however, as they turned down a street - reaching a market place of sorts with both food… and high-tech gadgets? Weird. Either way, the street seemed to head straight towards the boardwalk.
Frisk sighs. “I’m sorry Ruby, I never meant to bring my problems to you. I didn’t even mean to end up here, I was trying to bring the Chara’s back to my universe. I uh, kinda latched onto my determination in YOUR locket rather than the determination I put into MY Chara’s locket.” Frisk frowns. “If I don’t find a way to get back to my universe though things might go badly there. Still…they have each other, and Toriel, so they should be fine, for a while. And I trust Chara to look after everyone and keep them safe.” Chara may not like the others much but Frisk knew they would never do anything to put them in harms way either.
Frisk smiles at Ruby’s tangent. “Haha, it kinda makes me eager to go back to my universe so I can see all of this for myself. The Underground seems like quite the diverse place. I think Louis wants to be a scientist as well, he has been writing down everything we discover since we fell into the underground.” Frisk says.
“I don’t think their nickname comes from that kind of ‘pepper’ anyways.” Frisk says. “Their new friend played a rather mean prank on them and tricked them into eating a ghost pepper.” Frisk says in a disapproving tone. “Still, if you can’t think of something don’t worry about it, I really only need one for camp. In my timeline I’m the only Frisk I know of.”
“… What is your plan from there though …?” Ruby asked softly, frowning. “I mean, you bring all the Charas to you… then what? Travel with sixteen children throughout the Underground? Do you really think that was gonna work out? No offense- but maybe it was better they ended up here. No offense, but I don’t think any of my version of my mother can handle sixteen kids for long… and my mom nearly had a heart attack when all of you arrived!”
“Louis? Which soul is he in your universe?” Ruby tilted their head. “I… used to want to be a scientist. Actually, I might not… have that much of a choice in what I’m going to be anymore.” For a moment, their eyes darkened as they reached the end of the street.
“Wait… ghost peppers, seriously? Well… actually, Ketchup did put peppers into the breakfast at camp… me and Daf and a few others had to keep warning the other kids when they came to get breakfast that day.” Ruby snorted, as soon, they reached a set of stairs - going from concrete, to a light brown boardwalk. Already, the ocean could be seen - stretching wide throughout the cove - thankfully the sun was still high in the sky so it wasn’t blinding, but it was still dazzling. “No, I’ll think of something, don’t worry… eventually. And if I think of one after you go back, I’ll just send a message over our pins.”
“That…was more or less the plan, yes.” Frisk says. “There wasn’t much time to think of anything else.” Frisk says. “I just wanted to help them get out of the void, and I figured that we already had eight humans that weren’t meant to be in the underground at the same time, what could eight more hurt?” Frisk sighs. “That or the Chara’s stay with Toriel while we travel to the barrier to break it. “But…longterm I was hoping to find a way to get them back into their original timelines.” Frisk explains. “I’m sorry, I promise I’ll leave as soon as my soul can handle it. I’ll take the other Chara’s to my timeline and after that…find a way to get them back to their own.” Frisk sighs maybe Ruby was right, this really was a poorly thought out plan.
“Louis has a purple soul.” Frisk says and smiles. “I really like science, especially space. Maybe we could all be scientists!” Frisk says happily before their smile falters at Ruby’s expression. “What do you mean? Of course you have a choice in what you want to be, everyone has a choice.”
“Yep, their new friend was a Chara named Ketchup.” Frisk frowns. “Honestly…I can’t get them to get along with the others in our timeline yet they befriend someone who tries to poison them….” Frisk shakes their head. “Don’t worry about it Ruby, this is my fault, I’ll find a way to fix it, somehow. I would hate to burden Toriel, or you for long.” A smile suddenly breaks their face again as they spot the ocean, it was so pretty! “Wow! This is amazing Chara!” Frisk says.
“… Frisk, do you realize how many monsters are out there? And how many wanted humans dead?” Their red eyes glimmered - biting their lip slightly. “Toriel wouldn’t be able to protect them all. At least not in the current point your timeline is at. What, you’re only in the Ruins… when you meet Undyne…” Their gaze darkened once more. “Frisk, it was hard protecting one human - my Frisk - through the Underground, and I knew the Underground like the back of my hand! You have no idea how hard it’d be to keep pulling humans out of the void if they die. How much would you be able to keep up? Don’t be sorry - you’re my friend, and CT and PT were also.” Were. That word. Ruby hated it… but who knows where those two were. “Bad things happented to you in the void already. Do you think all seven of you would make it back to your timeline…?” For a moment they were silent. “Remember when you gave my that band-aid? Do you know if the Charas from the void have similar items from their personal timelines…?” They tilted their head, a bit of light coming back into their eyes. “… Sans may be able to work something out that’s a better situation. I never got a chance to test it, as you arrived way earlier than I thought you would… but hey, there’s no hurt in trying it now. And if you think I’m going to leave my friends in danger while you all are risking your lives, you’re mistaken-” Their eyes narrowed, knowing an argument could be forming on Frisk’s tongue. “We can do that after we’ve had fun though…”
And a small bitter laugh escaped Ruby at the next statement. “I don’t. The world isn’t really happiness and sunshine, even at out happy end. Frisk… humans don’t feel comfortable with monsters. They’re not comfortable with the idea of a monster king that lives on and on without end… and monsters and humans getting into relationships… me and my friends are the shining light here. I…” They shook their head. “I’m not going to burden you with that. It’s my problem. You can’t help something like that.” Clear weariness had entered their movement- though they laughed again, less bitterly this time as Frisk explained.
“Of course it was fucking Ketchup. You know one night, after Lord Invex turned the power back on, and I got a trophy with my friends for second place in the talent show, that Ketchup decided to go out and provoke the Sky Temmies? We all watched as they went out and screamed at the top of their lungs for the Sky Temmies to fight them. We then decided it was only right after already getting the chocolate fountain taken away to lock the cabin door… locking Ketchup outside. We shouted ‘encouragement’ out of the window. It was rarer fun-” They snorted… a but their face broke out into a genuine grin as Frisk spotted the ocean.
“It is… I guess I’m used to it, cause I’ve been next to the ocean since I was born… even if things have changed, the ocean didn’t. Now c’mon! Let’s go check out the board walk!”
“I’m not worried about pulling the people from my timeline out of the void, I did it for Kaley and I’m positive I can do it however many times it takes if the others die too. And I think I’ll be able to bring the Chara’s back too, after all, I brought them here. Chara says that Toriel is the most powerful monster they have seen so far, but...it wouldn’t be right to put all of that pressure on her. Also we may not have a um... ghost Chara to guide us, but our Chara can read the language and they have the check ability, so I suppose that’s almost as good. And don’t forget, I’m actually the weakest in my timeline, if most Frisk’s can get though the underground mostly alone, I’m sure the eight of us will have no problem. What ever happens, whoever challenges us, I won’t quit until we are out.” Frisk looks into the distance their red eyes glowing slightly. They close their eyes hard and put a hand to their head as if suffering from a headache.
Frisk sighs and reopens their eyes, now back to their normal red. “With any luck I’ll find Pt, and Ct and the way back. You’ll have to ask them if they have anything, from what I can tell they seem to only have the clothes on their backs. But...if you can find a better solution I definitely won’t turn down the help. However...as you said, most universes can handle their own problems without outside interference, I’m sure the same holds true for mine.”
“From the sound of it, your problem does sound like my problem, not only because you’re my friend, but because your timeline might be what mine is like after we break the barrier. I may not know what will happen next but I know myself,if monsters and humans need me to keep the peace then I will do it.” Frisk felt... rather tired thinking about it all. There was just so much to worry about, what to do about the Chara’s as well as Pt and Ct, surviving the underground, breaking the barrier without having seven in their party lose their souls, whatever came next...it was just so MUCH. And all of it was their fault. Frisk tries not to let their distress show on their face as they address Ruby again.
“From what I’ve heard about them that definitely sounds like something they would do, though I shouldn’t judge to harshly, Jesse picked a fight with the sky temmies to. Still I’m sad I missed it, but...I did end up going to camp more often than anyone else since Chara shared their day with me...” Frisk smiles. “Did you get the chocolate fountain taken away because people like Ct kept using it to eat mistletoe?” Frisk asks.
Frisk suddenly grins mischievously . “Race you to the boardwalk!” Frisk breaks into a sprint giving Ruby no further warning.

“Aw, come on, your universe isn’t THAT weird. I’ve heard of weirder from camp…” They snorted as they continued to walk down the path… and soon, a paved street was coming into view, the forest seeming to come to an end there. “But you’re right. I’m not alone in my situation - we all have each other.” They paused as at the road, turning to look directly over at Frisk… their red eyes shining with worry.
“What… even happened in the void?” They bit their lip. “You don’t have to tell me of course - but… it sounds worrying. I know that - scuse my language - that it is a pretty shitty place… but there was more to it than that, wasn’t it?” And then, they leaned back, looking skyward. “… You’ll get home, and things will work out, whatever happened.”
“Hmm, at least I won’t be constantly surrounded by it like back at Camp… even you have to admit that was a bit much in the flirting department.” Their smile was back, though it was strained - though the strain lessened as they questioned about the boardwalk. “Oh, yeah! We’re a coastal city. Heck, some of the downtown area gets a beautiful view of the ocean. You’d love it.” After the coast is clear, Ruby headed over the crosswalk, where the fringe of the city really began.
Frisk sighs seems like they didn’t do a good enough job hiding their troubles. “I left them behind Ruby…they needed me and I just abandoned them…” Frisk wraps their arms around themself. “Ct…Pt…who knows where they are now, and Gaster might be dead because of me…” Frisk looks downcast. “Why did I think I could do this? My universe is weird, but it also has a lot of advantages, I guess I let it all get to my head. I thought that just because I can save the others from my universe from the void, that I could do whatever I wanted there, even save people from other universes. That was naive of me to think that.” Frisk looks up at Ruby.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bother you with all of my problems. Let’s just have fun, I’ve never been to the ocean before either. It’s great that you get to live somewhere so cool. Mountains, oceans and cities, this place has it all huh?” Frisk smiles. “Camp is nice, it’s nice being around other people who are able to understand. Are cabin is especially odd, everyone typically has one of two names and a lot of similarities…” Frisk says lost in thought.
“… Frisk.” Ruby walked closer, a bit of sorrow in their gaze… yet they also had the look they had whenever they were being stubborn. Whenever they wholeheartedly believed in something. Whenever they were Determined. “… Remember what you just told me, Frisk? That I was… just trying to do what I thought was right? I has a task in front of me that was impossible of who I was, yet I tried anyway just like you said. I got cocky. I thought the world couldn’t touch me.” Their voice was soft, red eyes darkening. “It was naive of both of us… but if you are blaming yourself for what you thought was the best coarse of action… don’t. Take your own advice…” And with that… Ruby gently flung their arms around Frisk, gently squeezing them, before releasing just as quick as they had done it. They didn’t hug much… but this was a special occasion. For a friend. A small, sad smile was on their face. “… You don’t have to take those responsibilties alone either. It might have been naive to think you could do that alone … But you’re not. And like hell will CT and PT be left alone! Or their Gaster!”
For a moment… they stood there… before turning back and resuming on their walk. That was their one speech of the day - and that was all. “Now, let’s just focus on fun for today, though. Yeah, we have a lot here… though we don’t actually get snow here. Did you know my first experience with snow was in Snowdin?” They tilt their head, looking back as they now began to walk between the expanse of houses. “It was so weird for me when I first fell….”
They gave a small nod. “Yeah… it was nice like that. Though a little disconcerting keeping track of names… I already have a hard enough time! I actually came up with ‘Ruby’ on the fly when I was by the river with Lentil the first day, when I realized just how confusing it truly was going to get…”
“....Thank you, Ruby.” Frisk says. “You’re right, I’m being a little to hard on myself, especially since I AM going to fix this, somehow. And that is another benefit from my timeline I guess, I really am never alone.” Frisk looks forward. “I just have to keeping moving forward and not look back.” Frisk smiles at Ruby. “And you know what? One day I will be good enough, I’ll keep trying and one day I will be able to help people from different universes. After all, I already have a pretty good system for getting to other universes, er, if I meet them ahead of time anyways.” Their soul would be strong enough for it, and if it wasn’t Frisk was not afraid to face the consequences again and again.
Frisk begins walking with Ruby. “I’ll bet, but we get all four seasons where I live, so I’ve seen snow a lot of times.” Frisk looks at Ruby for a moment. “But...how is there snow in the underground?” Frisk asks.
“Also...you bring up a good point about nicknames. There are a lot of Frisk’s at camp and I don’t really have anything that sets me apart from them... So I’ve been thinking. My Chara got their nickname from the friend they made at camp. I think I should follow that tradition. So what do you say, want to give me a nickname?” Frisk asks.
“I left them behind Ruby...they needed me and I just abandoned them...” Frisk wraps their arms around themself. “Ct...Pt...who knows where they are now, and Gaster might be dead because of me...” Frisk looks downcast.
Are cabin is especially odd, everyone typically has one of two names and a lot of similarities...” Frisk says lost in thought.
“… Both seem quite like they are impossible things considering how your world is… but I’m sure you’ll figure out a way.” Ruby said, shutting the door behind them, before starting to head down the stairs.
“Well, I’m not sure how it is compared to YOUR universe but…” The stairs lead right to the main hall that the door is at. Before leaving, Ruby quickly cleared their throat. “Mom, I’m going out for a while with a friend of mine!” Without waiting for a response, they whisked open the door and stepped outside.
It seems they were currently for the most part… surrounded by trees. But the curve of the land was clear… and on one side of the house, the trees grew denser, and the land started to go upwards. It seemed the fringes of the city were smack right by Mt. Ebott. On the other side, the trees starting to thin out… and a city could be seen in the distance. Skyscrapers, tall as can be… the middle of the city havig the tallest before it started to decline on all sides.
By the city, you could see a large bay area - indeed, the city was smack onto the coast, with a boardwalk and everything. Around the city, opposite the water were mountains very similar to Ebott, but none matching it’s size stretching across.
“Welcome to my city - Ebott City. Home to both monsters and humans alike. Where I was born… except, it was only a small town then…” Ruby let out a snort. Things certainly had changed while they had been dead…
“Bye, Miss Toriel!” Frisk says before leaving the house to follow Ruby. It really was nice of Toriel to take them all in like this…perhaps in their universe Toriel could take in a child or two as well..?
Frisk smiles. “It’s a little different in my world, it’s much more urban. Who knows though, in a hundred years it could look just like this.” Frisk says. “Hey look on the bright side, you may be out of time, but I’m not even from this universe.” Frisk snorts. “Although…. You definitely look out of this world!” Frisk says and finger guns at them.
“So, what do you like to do around here Ruby?” Frisk asks. “I’ve never actually been to a city before…”
“It used to be much more urban here back before I fell… Most buildings from back then is gone, but I could easily point out where things had been compared to now.” They began to trek down a small, concrete path surrounded by grass on both sides of it, through the thinning trees. A small frown came onto their face. “You may be out of your universe, Frisk, but soon, you’ll return to how things were.” They pointed out, red gaze staring forward. “You will get the chance to go through the Underground and return to the surface practically the way it was before… My Frisk is the only one out of us that wasn’t ‘displaced’ in anyway.” It was a matter of fact, really. “And since I was the first to fall… I’m the one most disjointed here.” It was a rather somber tone they have taken on…
But Ruby couldn’t help but snort and playfully shove Frisk, their cheeks glowing more red than normal. “Oi, and I thought I had a rest from all this flirting.. well, you got two options. We can either head Downtown - I know my way over there pretty well - where there are a few museums and stuff… Or we could go to the Boardwalk. It’s really great and fun over there also… But it’s entirely up to you. You are a guest in my universe after all.” Ruby said with a wink.
“Yeah, but you aren’t alone Ruby, unlike my weird universe you all fell alone...but you aren’t alone anymore. The others probably knows how it feels, after all, they are all living with Toriel because they have been missing from their own homes for so long right?” Frisk asks.
“Haha, yeah...back to my own universe...” Frisk sighs. “Before I can even do that though I have to fix my mistake in the void. Plus the others are waiting for my return...” Frisk frowns it often feels like their trip into the void only made things worse for everyone. Frisk tries to shake them self out of such thoughts, now isn’t the time for feeling sorry them self, it’s time for having fun!
Frisk laughs sounding only a little force. “Haha, as long as you are with me you will never be free from all this flirting~” Frisk smiles “If there is a boardwalk, does that mean there is an ocean or something nearby?” Frisk asks. “Or...am I completely misunderstanding what a boardwalk is?”
"That doesn't look like a scratch." Frisk says.
