The Effects of being a Kpop Fan to Studies
Being a Kpop fan is very common these days. You can't go anywhere without hearing about BTS, TWICE, BlackPink, GOT7, TXT, ITZY, SEVENTEEN, Red Velvet, Stray Kids, ASTRO.... you get the point. So, what are the effects of these groups to the studies of many, many students around the world? Is it a distraction? Or an inspiration?
Many parents ban their children from listening to Kpop because they say it's a distraction. Why, exactly? Why do these parents say that Kpop is a distraction?
Well, they say that because their children is so focused on those Kpop idols, they lose focus on everything else, specifically, their studies. Parents say that Kpop is the reason that their children gets low grades. They say that, sometimes, their children stay awake the whole night just to 'stream' their idols' music video. I think this proves that everything has a dark side. This is the dark side of Kpop fans, sasaengs, or possessive fans, that's what happens to people, or students, who becomes to obsessed with Kpop. These people should learn to control themselves because they're giving their parents a reason to ban them from Kpop.... and we don't want anyone close to us to become a toxic fan.
What about inspiration? Why do some students say that Kpop is an inspiration, a motivation to them? Since I relate to this, you'll expect me to go a bit crazy on explaining.
So why, exactly, do we say that Kpop is an inspiration? Kpop is an inspiration to me because it motivates me to strive harder. If I get good grades, then I can be successful someday. And if I can become successful someday, then I can go to Korea and meet my idols, as simple as that.
People say that Kpop is just about catchy music and handsome guys. Well.... yes, I admit that those Kpop idols are handsome but.... their music is not just catchy. They have meanings behind them. Some songs, like those songs of BTS, are about loving yourself. Those songs help people, students, who are having a hard time with their studies. Kpop songs are a motivation to many students around the world. I have a friend who has gone through rough times, and she says that Kpop is what helps her to keep going. Yes, some songs are catchy, but most of them have meanings behind them, the idols write what they feel. BTS' Love Yourself Albums helped people out of depression. It help the students to learn how to love themselves. You can't love others without loving yourself. BTS is the greatest example I can give you because they had their fair share if hard times. They know what we feel, and they incorporate that in their songs.
So, whether you think Kpop is an inspiration.... or a distraction. One thing is clear, Kpop is here to stay and continue to motivate and inspire students around the world. Like they say, you can't stop me loving myself. -Freah Tacang
