Love Song

Wearing @guidicommunity boots and a gold Goros necklace-
Our theme for this video bled from holding self isolation (by choice), and optimism in both hands at the same time. No longer waiting for a phone to ring, or a door to open; rather, being aware of the responsibility it must take within oneself at times- to grow and take on new shapes. This video could be the moment right before the unknown arrives, and new colors appear. With these themes taking place, there is a mission as far as the song itself to convey lost love, the heart blushing, breaking, mending. It’s another late night confessional, fleshy, melancholic, and very honestly a love song- romantic in a way that could feel like no one was supposed to hear it

This is the official cover image of my EP “Ryder”
I’m wearing a vintage 1980’s Issey Miyake back logo bomber jacket - possibly my personal favorite item I have of Issey.
This past year my nephew was born, so I named this EP after his middle name, for him to look back at someday, like some sort of time capsule ♥️

These images were taken the same day the music video for Time Will Tell was filmed., We wanted to get some BTS shots to be able to promote with and add to the visual presentation of this release.
These images as well as the Time Will Tell music video were shot by Malik Ross. Malik’s ability to understand my music and translate that in a visual way is one reason of many that I value our collaboration. Working together on bridging the sonic world and visual world has genuinely taught me so much. We’ve worked together for years now on music videos and album/track covers and I’m so grateful for how much I’ve learned about my own work, through working with another creative who cares to understand it and is a prodigy in their own craft.

BTS POST // wearing two different sets by Ezra Ketter Smith for a music video release
★
The first three images I’m wearing The Jiro Trouser and Jiro shirt set -
This was the outfit I ended up wearing for a music video I made for my song “Time Will Tell” (I will be posting about this song and music video in the near future)
The straps added this detail of energy, they flow with movement and weather; almost a reminder that there is wind, there is power in nature. Wind has the power to move, destroy- some days it blows so softly we could almost forget it’s there. The ocean has the power to take us, and even still, we find ourselves walking the shore, swimming in it. Makes me think of the experience of “truth”- fear can be very much apart of accepting it, nonetheless it’s a wonderful tool and gift to freedom. If we turn our back on truth, forget about it- we’re stuck. May we never forget about the wind, the ocean; and may we always strive to be true.
We (Malik Ross & I) shot the music video “Time Will Tell” in three different locations (mostly), and most of the video is located at a cathedral and a church, both in my hometown. In the video we were trying to explore the concept of questioning not just yourself but the things beyond yourself. We also wanted to tie in some religious aspects of my upbringing and how that may relate to present convictions and further questioning. So the collar on the Jiro shirt was perfectly fitting for the video- almost giving this “priest/ghost” look.

A lot goes into the process when I release music- Something I have grown to really enjoy is working with other creatives to create a world around my art that expands past clicking on the song and pressing play. Photographers, designers, videos etc//
Fashion, visuals, music -
Meaning, feeling, theme-
In creating truth and visual beyond just the song, sometimes these questions come up-
Where was I when I wrote it? How did I feel? What was I doing? What did it mean then, what does it mean now, what’s changed, what’s stayed the same? Is there an essence of the music and its meaning that will always be there and if so what is it and how can it translate to the clothes I’m in, the location, the camera being used, movement?
It’s difficult to explain my process when it comes to creating music, as my inspiration comes seemingly whenever it wants and bleeds out without warning; in other words, it just happens and everything else around me seems to freeze while it’s happening, and it births itself.
It’s a special gift to work with other art forums that seem to offer these questions as they marry my creation. I’m blessed every time I am working with people who want to see into this world with me, so that what we do visually is TRUE and beautiful, and honors my music.
I feel more connected to myself every time.
This is a fun BTS reel I made wearing The Jiro set by Ezra Ketter Smith. I will be posting more about his work and my experience getting to wear his design for a music video release
