“You’re better off staying home anyway.”
Why, sir?
ren-o-connor:
“Don’t apologize, dude. Nobody should feel obligated to volunteer.”
I do. I am skilled enough and the sick do not affect me.
berryclare:
“No need to apologize to me. My sibling is the one that goes on supply runs. I’m not able to do much in that area as much as I would like.”
I see. I am sure you have plenty of use here.
I apologize for not being able to go out and get supplies for town. My owner did not go out on the supply run, so I am here for the time being.
pipervarnham:
Wow. I’d kick someone’s ass if they programmed every last detail into me, like, even my gender identity. But… Guess you need free will to realize injustice.
I suppose you’re right. I do not believe I will ever feel free will or any wish to make myself different than I already am.
pipervarnham:
Hah. Piper’s fine. ‘Bad-ass, Blue-haired Angel’ is really something only my closest friends call me. As for pronouns, I use ‘they’ and ‘them’. I suppose you usually don’t have a choice in those matters, huh?
Piper, alright. My owner, they use the same pronouns. But I just take whatever they program me with.
pipervarnham:
Piper. But you can call me ‘Ruler of Everything’ or, like, ‘Bad-ass, Blue-haired Angel’.
Which would you prefer? I have learned through my owner that many prefer other names to their given names, or other pronouns.
pipervarnham:
Well– Yeah. I meant– Uh, never mind. Hey, you got a name?
Gabriel was my given name. What do they call you?
pipervarnham:
Hm. That’s probably more than most humans know to do.
That was the intention.
pipervarnham:
Exactly how much do you understand? Just asking for science.
I understand a lot. I can read facial expressions, assume moods and proper responses to said moods.
Even so, I’m still learning normal things. I was programmed primarily to kill or defend out on the battlefield.
pipervarnham:
Oh– Oh… Right. You’re a-… Still pretty stupid.
I do not understand how that classifies as stupid.
pipervarnham:
And you actually went to see him? I don’t know if you’re ballsy, or just stupid. Probably the latter.
My owner works for him. So I am just following orders to see him. It doesn’t mean that I am stupid or ballsy.
I find it strange that the mayor wanted to speak with me privately. I am not a mayor’s employee, yet he wanted me to do stuff for him?

“Does it matter if I’m alone?” Levi said, keeping his gun ready to shoot if he had to. He honestly didn’t want to. In a way he was glad to come in contact with someone that was actually living and breathing for the first time in days — but he knew that didn’t mean that it was any safer than the last infected he encountered.
“Are you going to shoot me?”
“Not unless you give me a reason to. Bullets are scarce, and I’d rather not spend them on someone alive.”
They figured that was good enough for the man. They really didn’t have time to go into detail. They had to get out of here before that horde made its way here. “There was a big group of shamblers heading this direction. You won’t be able to outrun them at this rate and you can’t take them all out on your own . We’ve got a car and a settlement.”
They kmew it was risky taking in a complete stranger, and the town was already running out of resources, but they couldn’t leave this guy out here in good conscience.
Gabriel looked at Veda, trying to process what they were trying to accomplish with that. But when he couldn’t read and process his owner’s face, he returned to look at the stranger. Who knew what he would do, especially with a loaded gun?
“That is one more mouth to feed. Why would you do that, Veda?” he asked, using his owner’s first name for once. “Leave him here. He can defend himself.”

Levi was doomed. He as starving, his gun had maybe two bullets left in it — and there were plenty of those roamers following him. At least they were far enough away to where he didn’t have to constantly think about it.
He pointed his gun at the person that came close to them, seeing that they weren’t infected. As far as he could tell. But Levi didn’t want to waste the few bullets he had by just unloading into the stranger. “What do you want?” he asked, noticing that another person was with them. “I’ll shoot you both, alright?”
Gabriel was with Veda on a supply run, as a way to keep them alive. The android wasn’t going to let another incident happen where he lost his owner. This time would be better. Even if he couldn’t use a gun at all, he had the means to defend Veda without one.
As they walked, Gabriel caught attention of someone walking. It wasn’t in the same way that an infected walked, so they had to be alive still. His theory proved to be true when the man walked out with a gun pointed at them.
He was ready to just tackle the stranger to the ground and just plain destroy him. “Veda, sir, what would you like for me to do?” Gabriel asked, stepping in to shield Veda in case the man shot at them.
“Thanks. If ya say it again, I promise I’ll hear it.”
Okay. I was wondering how the farm you are working on is doing. I know that my owner, they have a friend that owns a farm and it can be a struggle to run in this.
“What? I’m sorry…I wasn’t listening.”
It is alright. I understand that people will not be listening as intently as they could be.
