If you're sitting down for a long, (hopefully) uninterrupted writing session, what's your ideal environment? Where/what time do you work best? Music or no? Snacks/drinks? Paint me a picture (but only if you want to, lol).

I am most productive when I write in bed - any time of day when the inspiration strikes. I like to squeeze 500-1k words in before work and then 2-3k more after I finish work (and sometimes I write during work if things are slow hehe). Sometimes I'll write in the living room if there aren't any distractions. Cannot write with music or while I'm eating because both are too distracting lol but I do have my emotional support water bottle on hand at all times

I'm really bad at writing in public like in a cafe or on a plane. Every time I fly I'm like, this is great, I'll be in the air for 6 hours, I can write so much! And then I barely write 300 words lol so most of my writing is done at home

How do you get from ‘this would be cool’ to ‘this is an actual fic’?

I come up with 1-3 fic ideas a day and they usually end up in the graveyard of my notes app, but for the ideas that I REALLY like, I'll immediately create an outline of the full story

My outlines are so long lol and I cannot start writing without one. When I do start writing, I typically only write one story at a time and I have to write the story in order from beginning to end

Sometimes I also make a playlist for the Vibes. I'll also consume podcasts, books, movies, etc. in the name of research, especially if I don't know much about the subject. I can't tell you how many undercover mafia movies I watched while writing the debt you chose

I'm generally a pretty fast writer (and bang deadlines help with staying on track). only the brave (434k) took me exactly one year to write the first draft. my pinefest from this year a long way to go (26k) took me 8 days to write. (since 2024 I track how much I write every single day lol). I usually try to write 1k-5k words a day

after I finish the first draft, I'll let it sit for a couple weeks before I edit. I do 1-3 read throughs of the story where I try to fix everything from the first draft. then I send it to my beta! after she does her pass, I'll go through it again and make the necessary changes. sometimes I'll let it sit some more and then go back later for one final read through

(editing only the brave was way more intense since it was so long lol if anyone is interested I can talk about that separately since my answer to this q is already long enough)
