I feel that Soap'd be more an impulsive guy than idiotic and/or ill tempered (might just be projection on my part, I'm rather impulsive).
Smart and professional when need be, although his mind's going a mile a minute so some intrusive thoughts and feelings slip out
Idk, though
he’s definitely hotheaded. very protective which often has his emotions dictating his actions. he’s also a very proud man who knows what he’s worth while still being incredibly loyal to his team. maybe his inexperience and his tendency to act before he considers all the possibilities is what has people making him out to be stupid? but it’s to a degree that i can’t help but wonder if there’s some sort of inherent bias..
Okay, I'm gonna go OFF because I absolutely HATE soap characterization.
Soap is the youngest of the 141. He tried to enlist since he was 16, which imo showed he possibly had a rougher childhood because he saw that as an exit. Which could also lead more into the explanation of his impulsive and possible anger issues, though I think he's better at masking anger with impulsivity.
He is not dumb. He is a demolition expert, which means he has to be good at certain things including but not limited to master mathematical charge calculations, improvised explosive devices (IEDs), explosive breaching, and target reconnaissance. That is not something someone stupid would be able to do. (( Which is why I think he was dx gifted audhd, but I also heavily project because he is my favourite character )).
He is an amazing example of how people are dumbed down people to what they think is obvious. He fidgets A LOT. Because he is restless and that makes so much sense why he is demolition. He is someone who craves stimulation (( which is also why I think he chooses sas because it's more life threatening and end setting )) , and I think that's how he grew up. He needs to keep going or he's left alone with shit he doesn't want to be left alone with.
He talked so much during a mission he was meant to be silent during. A phobia or fear of silence is such a big sign of childhood trauma (( speaking from experience & research )). He is NOT stupid. He is impatient because he's always on edge WAITING and WANTING for something to happen. That does not come from stupidity. That comes from how he grew up. He is a result of how he grew up.
He was a kid who was told to shut up or do something about it and he does something about it. I'm sorry if this made zero fucking sense. But I love him dearly.
