Genre: Suspense

Basic Plot: Andrea is faced with finding out her own mother may not be the woman she thought her to be after a traumatic incident together. Now, Andrea is searching for answers about her mother’s past and what she’s really done in her life. None of it’s looking very good.

Readability: 5/5

Plot Interest: 5/5

Creativity: 4/5

This was a book club pick, one that we grabbed off the bargain rack so as to get a random pick. What I didn’t know, was just how good this was going to be. It’s an extremely smooth read, not dwelling too long on a lot, but not skipping over much either. The characters were well crafted and found themselves mixed up in a very interesting story. But what really pulled me into Slaughter’s writing was her ability to carefully place progressive ideals so it felt natural and well plotted. I liked her writing very much, even at times I didn’t relate to her characters, I still found myself interested in what was happening to them. 

I gave it a 5 out of 5 because I loved her pace and style. I didn’t have any critique while reading and found myself just genuinely enjoying it. I didn’t want to put it down once I started it. I was enraptured with the flashbacks more than anything and found this to be a very believable and creative plot. It was a fresh perspective towards a lot of things and her social qualities contained in these pages just made the read all the better. All in all, it was fun and compelling.

Day 20. Shelfies!

I’m hoping soon to get another shelf and put it where my shoe rack currently resides. Working from home this last almost month is making me crazy about how to utilize my space and how I want my books organized. I’ve been working on finishing off my collections of some of my favorite series I’ve read over the years! (I’ve lost books over the years and also, started series physical and finished on kindle) I can’t wait to have enough space for everything with space left over to buy new!

1. How has your day been?

Good! I slept until late morning and woke up to sunshine from a cloudless sky.  Made tomato soup for breakfast, and then went to get the mail, and I got a knitted hat from a good friend that lives across the pond. And it was in my favorite colours!

2. What made me smile?

That cool hat! 

3. What’s keeping me entertained?

Currently it’s The Dresden Files. I’m ten books in, Finished Turn Coat today and I’m head over heels in Jim Butchers universe.

4. Something you’d like to achieve in quarantine?

I’m not in quarantine, as Sweden (where I currently am) seems to be as worried about corona as they are the regular flu season. So life is pretty much going just as normal over here.

1. How has your day been?

Not bad, I work from home right now which is nice. I get to watch Netflix while and pet my pup while I work.

2. What made me smile?

My dog. She’s so cute I can’t handle it.

3. What’s keeping me entertained?

Mainly reading and playing sims on my computer. I’ve been playing animal crossing too but I’ve put my switch down recently for The Sims. Not really watching more TV though. Just the same stuff in the background. Also I spend a lot of time cleaning and online shopping.

4. Something you’d like to achieve in quarantine?

Get through a decent chunk of my TBR.

April 18th: On the Record

April 16, Just Finished

ACOTAR

I’ve seen a lot about this series and have put off reading for a while. But I’ve heard great things about all of Sarah J. Maas’s books so I finally purchased ACOTAR and decided I’d dive in. I really enjoyed this book. One downfall for me personally is that this book is written in 1st person past tense. I know I’ve complained about this before with other books, but I can’t help it. Books written in 1st person give a juvenile feel to the writing. You end up missing out on a lot of detail and action scenes can get confusing pretty quickly. I much prefer books written in the Third person. Was it a little cheesy? Yeah. Was it a little trashy? Also yes. Have I already ordered the second book so I can fly through this series? Definitely. I’d recommend if you’re in the mood for a novel about hot faries and murder with a few steamy scenes along the way.
