Grimmsnarl possess two sets of teeth; An internal set, used for chewing and eating, and an external set, used for fighting and territorial disputes.
Their internal teeth have dentition similar to a human’s. They’re omnivores, though they tend towards foraging for berries and roots- As such, their teeth are spined near the front for ripping and tearing, and flat near the back for chewing and crushing.
Their external teeth function similarly to tusks. They harmlessly protrude through a Grimmsnarl’s upper and lower lips, and their size and length correspond to the age of the individual. These teeth are not used for eating, but for defense- They’re noticeably larger than their internal teeth, with heavier enamel plating meant to prevent damage/splintering. In combat, an individual will use these teeth to intimidate their opponent, or grip a challenger until the other submits. [Some domestic varieties of Grimmsnarl may lack external teeth due to selective breeding- if your Grimm lacks this feature, be sure to ask a licensed breeder of their subtype if they require any special dental care.]
A Grimmsnarl’s lip is still intact behind their external teeth, allowing them to form a seal with their mouth to eat and drink. [A very common injury for this Pokemon species is a torn lip- if you notice your Grimmsnarl drooling after a battle, or otherwise feeling pain in their mouth area, make sure their lip isn’t cut behind their external teeth. In most cases, a few stitches will repair the injury, and they’ll be right as rain in no time.]
Dental hygiene is important for the species, and, thankfully, it’s something they can manage on their own. The underside of a Grimmsnarl’s tongue is dotted with keratinous points which they use to dislodge particles of food or other debris from their teeth, leaving them fairly clean. The more docile ones can be taught to brush their teeth, if necessary, though be sure to use child-safe toothpaste.
Grimmsnarl, especially those wild caught, may tend to use their teeth to inspect things before using their hands. If you find your stuff being gnawed on too much for your preferences, a firm but gentle reprimand will solve the problem. They’re intelligent Pokemon, and one that trusts its Trainer will be eager to comply in most situations.
If, Arceus forbid, you wind up bitten by a Grimmsnarl, wild or owned, get yourself to a hospital immediately. Grimmsnarl saliva is a powerful anticoagulant, thanks to their Draining Kiss ability, and failure to seek medical help may have grave consequences.
Important to note for Trainers hoping to raise a member of the Impidimp like; A Grimmsnarl can, in fact, break its nose. The underside of their nose is lined with a reddish stripe-shaped area known as a psyvomeronasal patch- this patch allows them to detect and hunt pseudo-psychic impulses of fear and distrust, a technique used in their hunting method to find weakened prey, similar to a Woobat’s use of ultrapsychic waves. [No, they don’t actually snort up bad emotions. That’s weird.] This patch starts from their septum to the tip of their nose, and several thousand years of evolution has favored more prominent patches. Due to the size, a Grimmsnarl’s nose is supported by a flexible nasal bridge comprised of cartilage- percussive force can snap or tear this tissue, causing severe pain to the Pokemon in question. If your Grimmsnarl’s nose seems to droop, or appears bruised / they have blood in their nostrils, please take them to a Pokecenter as soon as possible.
