Mr. Death

Wherever I am he is there.

Some times he lurks in the shadows where I see his funereal form.

Some times he walks beside me his gelid whisperings in my ear.

And some times he is right in front of me; grim

poised for the kill

to fill his bier

Only the hand of God stanches his reach.

But most of the time he slinks quietly behind me 

devoid of speech.

Where I hardly notice him at all.

But it does not matter.

I know he is there

waiting patiently,

inevitably waiting,

like the pall.

and in due time his grim scythe will cut its way.

But, to me at least, that’s not so grim.

when comes that fateful day, and he cuts life away
