You slumped against the door of your office. Everything you did these days ended in disaster. Everything was wrong. The most mindless actions could create storms. And it was always your fault.
Taehyung’s face after you unbuckled your belt would haunt you for months. The carefully concealed terror. The way he trembled. All because you hadn’t thought before acting.
You were always making mistakes, one after another. Any time you were in the same place as Taehyung something went wrong. You only made things worse for him regardless of how hard you tried to show him that he wasn’t in any kind of danger here. He was afraid of you, of what he thought you would do to him, and you could do nothing about it. No words could make this better.
You sat heavily on the chair behind your desk and rubbed your temples. It was better to stay away from him. You served only as a reminder of what he had been through. A reminder of that traumatising night. As long as you were around, he wouldn’t heal. For the first time in months, you longed for the long days of filming that would keep you away from the Castle from morning to night. But filming wouldn’t start for another two weeks, so what until then?
Most of your life followed a carefully structured plan. Step by step you had created routines and schedules that stretched into months. The movies and shows you would be filming and any other projects were put into neat boxes, dividing your time between them until there was no empty space in your planner. Since University, you had never felt as out of control as you did now. As if you were ten steps behind from the place you should be.
There were fifteen new emails in your inbox. You hadn’t checked them since yesterday and they were piling up. You scanned the subjects and after not finding any urgent ones, you started from the ones sent last night. Producers, the studios, screenwriters, and a reminder from the publishing house that they would be waiting for updates on the progress of your book. The weatherman said there’d be rain tomorrow! Bring an umbrella! Don’t wanna get sick, do we?
You feel the corners of your mouth rise to a higher place on your cheeks, running your eyes over the small note. Today he had chosen to jot his message down on a rosey coloured cardstock, leaving his signature floppy smiley face at the corner.
Mentally, you leave yourself a reminder to slip your umbrella into your bag once you get home so that you wouldn’t forget it in the morning. You imagined that the rain would simply be light showers, but even so, you didn’t want to risk getting wet.
“The commitment this guy has,” Sunghoon suddenly appears over your shoulder, “You think he has these things preplanned?”
Turning around, you’re greeted by Jake and Sunghoon, who both had taken interest in your secret admirer as much as you had. Jake shakes his head, “I think it would be a lot easier for him to write it on a whim… you know… since he’s in love with Y/N.”
“He’s not in love with me,” you say confidently, rolling your eyes, “Love is a strong word.”
Sunghoon and Jake exchange knowing looks, one that goes completely unnoticed by you as you decide to take this time to fold the message and stick it into the smaller pocket of your bag.
Jake shrugs, “This commitment says otherwise.” The three of you begin walking down the hallway, trying to walk by the edge to avoid blocking the paths of other people.
Sunghoon nods, “Got any guesses at this point in time?”
You leave the question hanging to think about the possibilities of who this boy could be. You had noted the boys who could be scribbled under the list of “My Secret Admirers,” simply through the small details you had noticed.
His handwriting wasn’t the greatest, though you could see the effort he put in trying to write neatly. It was rather adorable that he resorted to handwriting these notes despite his handwriting, and this said a lot about him.
The way he spoke reminded you a lot of your best friend, Jay. And though a generous chunk of your heart oh-so-greatly hoped it was Jay leaving you these daily messages, you had to cross his name out of the potential boys because he made sure to point out that he didn’t want anything to do with your secret admirer.
“Secret admirers are ridiculous,” his eyes flickered at the sky-hued cardstock that you presented to him, eyes knitting to express how unimpressed he was, “They’re unoriginal and creepy if you ask me.”
“They’re not creepy! This is school!” you jabbed a finger at the letter, “And unoriginal and ridiculous? Who doesn’t like cliches? They’re cliches for a reason.”
“Whatever you say,” he offers a forced smile, “Just know this will end badly.”
Regardless of what your killjoy of a friend says, you continue to appreciate the small messages your admirer drops into your locker at some point in the day. It was something you would always look forward to, something that has accompanied you so far in the year.
“Y/N?” Your train of thought is interrupted by Jake nudging you gently, “So?”
“Kang Taehyun?” You blurt out the first name that pops into your head, sounding extremely unsure of your guess.
Sunghoon’s eyes widen, “Why would you guess him out of all people?”
You and Jake arrived at your class’ door, halting to finish the conversation, “Why do you sound like you know who my admirer is?”
Jake’s expression mirrors Sunghoon’s expression, giving Sunghoon a slap on the back to indicate something only they knew, “Oh! You know Sunghoon! He speaks before he thinks. But personally, I don’t think it’s Taehyun. He seems like he’d uh… have neater writing!”
“I guess so?” You questioned, eyebrows raised at the two, “Anyways, Jake, we gotta head in. See you later, Hoon.”
Sunghoon waves at both of you before leaving for his class. Jake lets you enter first, “Did we have homework due today?”
You give him a look, “And you’re asking me this thinking I’d know?”
“We didn’t have homework.” You almost don’t notice Jay sitting at his desk, slumped over on his phone. He greeted you both with a subtle smile.
“You come early on random days.” You sit down next to him, Jake slipping into the desk in front of Jay, turn to face you both. Jay puts his phone down to acknowledge your guys’ presence, running a hand quickly through his hair to fix it.
“There was a quick mandatory club meeting this morning,” Jay begins to trace the edge of his phone, “So what were you guys talking about? I heard Jake going on about something outside the room.”
“My admirer,” you say a bit more quietly, “I don’t think you’d really want to–“
“Y/N thinks it’s Taehyun,” Jake blurts out. Luckily, no one else was paying attention to the three of you, minding their own conversations as they should. Jay’s ears perk up at the mention of Taehyun’s name, actually looking interested in this secret admirer business for once.
“Kang Taehyun?” Jay’s head tilts to the side slightly, “He doesn’t seem like the type to pull all this.” He stops tracing his phone and taps to check the time.
“That’s what I was saying!” Jake pointed at Jay, “I told you Y/N!”
You deadpan, “You didn’t say that Sim, you literally told me you don’t think it’s him because his handwriting would be neater.”
Jake shrugs, “Same difference.”
Before you could even begin to muster up a reply, your teacher enters the room with a kind greeting. Although you and Jake both turn to the front without a second thought, you don’t notice the fact that Jay was at the edge of his seat.

Heavy rain always did bring some kind of amusement. Despite making it harder to commute home, you couldn’t help but laugh at the way people would run in panic through the rain and into cars or under bus shelters. They act as if the rain was something acidic. But you do admit that getting wet was something you didn’t want.
Mr. Admirer’s message had popped back in your head:
The weatherman said there’d be rain tomorrow! Bring an umbrella! Don’t wanna get sick, do we?
Slipping your bag off your shoulder, you zip it open to grab the umbrella that you suspected to find at the bottom. Your hand searched the depths of your bag, only it was met with crumpled-up homework and receipts.
That’s funny, you think, I swear I put it in here.
You take your time sticking your head into your bag, carefully moving aside your folders and notebooks to make sure you didn’t just accidentally miss the umbrella. Though it was impossible considering its size.
Y/N, you dumbass.
Close to panicking, you feel a presence appear next to you, followed by the sound of an umbrella being opened as if to mock you, “You forgot your umbrella again, didn’t you?”
“Oh shut up, Jay,” you sighed, standing up in defeat. You closed your bag and slung it back over your shoulder, “I even got a reminder. But I guess I can’t do anything about it.”
“Hey, wanna go to my house? That way I can drive you home after,” he suggests, “And I need help on that chemistry homework.”
“Just admit you want my company,” you joke, nudging him, “But anything to avoid walking in this weather. Thanks, Jay.” He nods, offering a boxy smile before walking you both to his car.
The moment you step into Jay’s house, his mom offers an array of snacks from the kitchen, urging you both to sit down and get some rest before you both start on anything school-related. She begins a conversation by asking you how your parents were doing, going on about how long it has been since she’s seen them in person.
“And how’s Jay doing in school?” she shifts her gaze from you to Jay, who looks up from his plate of food. You can’t help but giggle at how shocked Jay looks despite the subject not being even as extreme as he makes it out to be.
“Doing well, auntie,” you replied, “Except I think he failed our chemistry exam.”
Jay’s jaw drops, “I did?”
His mom joins in, “He did?”
You laugh and shake your head, “Of course not, especially since he’s got me helping him.”
Jay is quick to poke your side as his mom just laughs, shaking her head, “You take after your mom’s wit.”
Before she could begin telling one of her countless stories of her and your mom when they were in high school, Jay butts in, “Uh, mom, Y/N and I need to start on schoolwork! But I’ll remind you to tell us that story later!”
She nods understandingly, “You two go ahead. You can leave the dishes there, I’ll clean them.”
“Thank yo–” You’re cut off with Jay pulling you towards the stairs, grabbing both his and your bag on the way, “You’re that excited to do your homework?” You scoffed.
“Of course not,” he says, shaking his head. Jay says nothing else as you both get to his room, plopping your bags onto his bed. He opens his own bag and begins to rummage through it, muttering something under his breath.
“What are you looking for?” You questioned, approaching his hunched figure.
“My phone,” he says, “I think I left it downstairs… I’ll be back.” You nod, and before you know it, Jay’s out the door, leaving you alone in his room.
Letting out a sigh, you move towards your bag that had fallen on its side by Jay’s desk. You couldn’t help but laugh at the handful of empty boba cups sitting at the corner of his desk, stacked one on top of the other, the cup at the top holding the straws.
Your eyes flicker towards the rest of his desk, which had been rather clean even with the boba cups. He had a notepad sitting just by the cups, a pen sitting idly on top of it. There was a poorly coloured periodic table sitting underneath the notepad, the edges filled with scribbles of atomic drawings.
You could hear Jay and his mom having a small conversation, mostly Jay asking if he’s left his phone in the kitchen and if she’s seen it. You laugh lightly.
Then your eyes moved towards a stack of paper at the far corner of Jay’s desk, a pen of its own sitting neatly beside it. There was a ball of crumpled paper placed right at the centre of the stack like it was specifically placed there.
As if your mind had recognized it before you consciously did, you reach for the crumpled piece of paper. You had unclear thoughts running through your head as they were fighting to make themselves clear to you. Though you know you really shouldn’t be going through Jay’s stuff like this, you could feel your curiosity getting the best of you. The colours and the size of the paper looked awfully similar to that of your admirer’s.
“I don’t know if I’ll hear it,” you hear Jay’s voice coming from downstairs, “I have it on silent.”
Uncrumpling the mint-coloured piece of paper, you flatten it out, turning the sheet so that whatever that was written on it was right side up. The words were difficult to read at first, the folds had been masking whatever had been scribbled down, making the ink look like complete gibberish. Once you had finally pulled the paper flat, you could make out the message.
Suddenly I don’t feel so scared anymore. I think I’ll be confident enough to reveal myself soon. Please don’t be disappointed. Please give me a chance.
You feel your heart skip a beat at the message, your eyes widening out of shock. Even though the writing had given away that this indeed was your admirer, you search for the signature floppy smiley face at the corner of the sheet out of habit. And to no surprise, you find it where you expected it to be.
It’s been Jay this entire time?
A part of you was puzzled. What happened to all those times Jay had made it clear that he found the secret admirer act stupid? Was that all an act?
Then you think back to all the times he looked the other way when the topic came up. He seemed to genuinely not give a single fuck about your admirer, continuing with whatever thing he was keeping himself busy with. Then there was Jake and Sunghoon, who you now realized could be in on this entire thing. Dumb and dumber. It all made sense now.
“Sorry, my phone was in my ca–“ Jay stops in his tracks when he notices what you were holding. For a second, he contemplated whether he should run out of his house and never return, or calmly take the sheet of cardstock away from you. It was too late anyway. His secret’s out.
Turning to Jay, you wanted to ask him to confirm all of this. But what initially was going to be a question turned into a statement when you were faced with Jay’s stunned expression, “You’re my secret admirer.” He was frozen in place, eyes trained on his scrapped note.
“I-I am,” he breathes, not even trying to hide it anymore. Jay waits for you to say anything else, almost to the point where he wants to beg you to say something. Despite being your best friend for practically two decades, he couldn’t read you at this moment. Maybe it was best for him to jump to a conclusion, “Look, Y/N… just don’t—just pretend that none of this ever happened, alright?”
He walks up to you slowly, gently slipping the sheet from your hands. He wanted to rip that note in shreds. He wished that he had just thrown it out right away.
“Why should I?” You finally say something, heart close to shattering at the way Jay’s mouth downturned into a frown.
Jay turns to his desk, “I’m embarrassed.” Shaking his head, he pulls the stack of empty cards towards him, “For you to find out that I’m the one you’ve been gushing over the past few months like this? It’s embarrassing.”
You finally understand where Jay was going with this conversation, “Park Jongseong, oh my god!”
“What?” He turns to you, surprised.
“You dumbass,” you playfully pushed him, “Did you not understand that I don’t want to pretend that I just found out that you’ve been my admirer all along?”
“Wait, you don’t?”
“Jay, how oblivious are you?” You shake your head, “It’s funny because I’m sort of relieved it’s you.”
Dazed, Jay could not quite understand what you were saying. “You’re not disappointed that it’s me?” His gaze towards you is one mixed with both shock and adoration, one corner of his mouth pulled up into the same floppy grin he’s signed off in the messages he’s been sending you. Why did I not realize sooner?
Sighing, you take a single step towards him, placing your hands on his shoulders. You send him a signal through eye contact before you bring yourself up on your toes to kiss him. It wasn’t a long kiss, but it was one that could answer his question and confirm your answer.
Unable to find his voice, Jay whispers, “I… I should’ve told you sooner. Why didn’t I tell you sooner?”
“That’s because you suck at chemistry,” you retort. You pull back to get a good look at him, a smile blooming brightly on your face. I’m happy it’s you.
“Oh, do I?” Jay raises a brow, eyeing you down.
You smirk. “Yes, and that’s why I’m here to help you.”
Before you could turn towards your bag to grab your things, Jay reaches for your wrist and pulls you in, bringing himself to kiss you the way he wanted to when you had done so earlier. His hands find their place on your waist as you push yourself up to kiss him back using his shoulders.
Jay gives you a cocky look as you both pull away, “So, do I still suck at chemistry?”
You pretend to think about it, unable to hide how happy you were at that very moment. Jay’s arms are still draped around your waist, eyes looking into yours as he waits for an answer. He watched as your smile melted into a smirk identical to the one you had earlier.

Amortentia.
It was known to be the most powerful love potion to ever exist among magical folk and only skilled potioneers were able to procure such. However, much as it was highly esteemed by its magical properties, It was also dangerous as it can never replicate real love; it was impossible to do so and the person drunk on the potion would only be subjected to hold an obsession to the person who had given it to the poor soul to consume it.
For someone who was a natural at Potions it was obvious that you were interested in the properties that made up Amortentia—well, “interested” might have been a huge understatement because right before you were notes upon notes you had taken in references of the books that you had gone over hours prior your stay in the library.
You were always told that you’ve taken from your grandfather who was a Potions Master himself and as a child, you loved being told such that you quite literally had taken after his steps when it came to Potions; always wanting to be there whenever your grandfather was in the middle of potion making, sometimes you’d even help prepping the ingredients.
“As long as you don’t need to use a knife!” Your mother would always say as she lets you accompany your grandfather to the basement of his quaint home where the potion making happens.
So it was only necessary for you to contact him to ask if he perhaps had any notes about the potion and luckily for you, he did and had immediately sent them over once you convinced him that no, you weren’t going to use the potion for nefarious reasons; you weren’t that desperate for your crush to notice you, why would you when the person you’ve been pining for years was one of your close friends?
“Thought I’d see you here.”
And speak of the devil, he shall appear.
You look up from your leather-bound journal just in time see Jay walking towards you, devoid of the Hogwarts issued robes—those were kind of stuffy anyways—but kept the grey sweater on; the sleeves pushed up to expose his forearms and his Slytherin tie haning loosely around his neck, a look that basically said “lessons are done for today so I’m free to do what I want” from how… different and relaxed he looked from his usual prim-and-proper get up and peculiarly enough, he was wearing his glasses this time.
You ignore the warmth you feel coating your cheeks as you smile, “Jay, hey. What’s up?”
“Just doing some studying with the boys. Well, it was mostly me, Jungwon and Jake studying and the rest—yeah.” He grins, rounding the table, taking out his hands from his pockets. “I see you’ve been having a productive evening. What’s all this?” Jay takes to resting his hip against the edge of the wooden table as he crosses his arms, looking at you for an explanation as to why there were numerous books, parchment papers and quills taking up almost the entire surface.
Really, if he didn’t know any better, Jay would have thought you were studying from an upcoming test that could rival whatever N.E.W.T’s had to offer.
You blink up at him before craning your neck to gaze at the organized mess you had made, “research.” Simple, but straightforward enough for anyone to get the idea.
Jay lets out an amused huff, reaching out to grab one of the parchment papers with writings all over it as he pushes up his glasses, “spoken like a true Ravenclaw, little raven,” you snort at the nickname as you quietly watch him scan the parchment, his lips pursed in concentration, “Amortentia, huh? Aren’t we going over this tomorrow in Potions?” He arches an eyebrow.
“Correct.”
“Racking up house points that quickly, eh?” Jay chuckles, placing the parchment back down on the table. “Really, I thought you were studying for a test and not reading in advance.”
“Well, for your information, I’ve already finished studying for Transfiguration and History of Magic.” You say a matter-of-factly while pointing to the small pile of study material you had accumulated for both subjects. “I just want to brush up on some knowledge I have for tomorrow.” Sighing, you rest your cheek on your palm. “You know how Professor Malfoy is.”
Jay’s lips quirk into a small smile, “is that right?”
You hum in reply, mirroring his smile. “Any particular reason why you’re here bothering me?”
“Oh is that what we’re calling it now?” Jay laughs softly, “and here I thought you loved it when I gave you all my attention.” and he had the gall to show you his puppy eyes, paired with a mocking pout, making you scrunch your nose in response as you turned away from him to hide the fact that you found it a little too cute to handle.
“In your dreams, Park.”
“Every night, L/N.” He grins, eliciting a scoff of disbelief from you, “anyways, I brought you some chocolate. Dad sent me a parcel this morning and thought you’d like some.”
You perk up at that, “really?” looking at him with big sparkling eyes that Jay can’t help but to laugh at the childish display as he lifts the pouch he had brought with him to place it on the table.
“Really,” he parrots, smiling down at you, perfectly straight teeth showing as he fished out a piece of the treat wrapped in gold foil, “it’ll probably help you with your research too… here, open up.” You blink at the rich looking ball of chocolate, then look up at him with an arched eyebrow. “Well?”
You roll your eyes, parting your lips to accept the chocolate. With a satisfied smile, Jay pushes the small treat past your lips, chuckling when you let out a sound of delight as you chew. “Good, right?”
“Yeah, thanks—” Just as you were about to rave at how absolutely delicious the chocolate tastes, the words only end up dying on your tongue as you watch the slytherin lick the remnants of the melted chocolate from his thumb and index finger. “Uh…”
He cocks an eyebrow, “what?”
“Nothing! Nothing,” you cough, sitting up straight. Isn't that considered an indirect kiss?
“If you say so,” Jay shrugs, shoving both hands into the pockets of his trousers as if he wasn’t the reason why your heart was this close to bursting out your chest. “Well, I better head back. We still have lots to study after all.”
“Oh yeah, sure.” You mumble, trying your best to mask the disappointment you felt at the thought of Jay leaving. “Wouldn’t want you guys failing and all. I’ll see you tomorrow at Potions then?”
“Of course,” he beams, pushing himself off from the table. “Save me a seat, yeah?”
“Don’t I always?”
“Just wanted to be sure, bye bye now.”
You watch him walk away from you, chin resting on your palm as your eyes slowly unfocused when gazing at his broad back, though it only refocus when Jay turns to face you, now walking backwards.
The smirk curling in his lips immediately has your eyes narrowing, wondering what he was up to. You get your answer soon enough when his right eyelid drops into a wink.
“Just leave already!” You mouth and Jay raises his hands in surrender, feeling your cheeks warm when he giggles as quietly as he could and he quickly makes his exit with a two-fingered salute.
“Ah really,” you huff, using both hands to smack your cheeks to snap yourself out from your flustered stupor. “Get it together, Y/N.” But no matter how many times you’ve told yourself the exact same phrase over the years, you seem to just… can’t; not when you clearly have a huge embarrassing crush on the boy who just fed you chocolate and it’s a miracle that you didn’t lose consciousness right then and there.
It’s been like this with Jay for a while now, you’re friends yes—close friends at that, but do friends constantly flirt with each other? Give each other looks across the classroom as if you were the only ones there? You could list all the couple-y stuff the both of you had done, but it would be too long of a list; and listing all of them would only get your hopes up and you didn’t want that, not when you’re sure that what you felt for the slytherin is unrequited.
Though there were times where you feel that there was something blooming in between you two, you swear you do and it didn’t help your case when Jay is the way he is: charming, an absolute gentlemen—the product from having a pureblood upbringing—a sweetheart—Merlin, it’s like the world just wants you to suffer with your love-life, or lack-there-of. Then there was this… thing he does; whenever he looks at you, he looks at you like you were the most precious thing to ever exist in the world, but you knew better than to get your hopes up.
There was a point in time where you even thought that Jay must have slipped some Amortentia into your food or drink, though you immediately shut the idea down because there was no way in hell Jay was capable of lacing anything with the dangerous potion and so you had accepted that yes, you have definitely fell for your friend, hard and there was no going back from it. It was ridiculous just how much everything he says and does affected you so.
You may have not been under the effects of Amortentia, but the way he made your head spin and heart skip a beat every time he smiled at you at times made you think that you were, even if you know fully well that it wasn’t the case.
“Face it, Y/N. You’re just a lovesick fool for the snake.” You huff, annoyed, but the smile you get when looking at the velvet pouch that had the rest of the delicious chocolates says otherwise.

“Good morning, little raven.” A voice whispers into your ear.
You drop your quill with a surprised yelp, turning to glare at a laughing Jay, “don’t do that!”
“I’m so sorry, but you looked so serious with whatever you were doing,” he apologizes, his laughter still racking his tall frame as he slides into the seat next to you. “Are those the notes from yesterday?”
“Yes…” You mumble, jutting down a small detail about the moonstone used for the brewing process on your leather bound journal. “There,” you put your quil down, grinning as you turn to face your desk partner of the day. “Did you know you can grate moonstones? They say it makes the potion more potent rather than just dumping the entire thing in the cauldron.”
“No, but I appreciate the additional information. Might come in handy if I were to brew the love potion myself.” He muses.
You let out a snort, “why would you? You’re a Quidditch captain and half of the school population is in love with you,” me included. “You need people to obsess over you too?”
“Just one particular person; I don’t think I can keep up with that many people,” Jay clarifies, giving you an all too knowing smile that had you narrowing your eyes, mostly at the vague statement. “Besides, I’m just pulling your leg, little raven. I’d very much prefer to earn their affections the non-magic way.” He grins, eyes sparkling as he rests his cheek on the palm of his hand.
“Well, I’d say good luck, but I don’t think you need it considering your Slytherin’s own golden boy.” You laugh softly, even though it pains you to picture Jay with someone that wasn’t you. “I’m certain they'll return your feelings. If not, you won’t have a problem making them fall for you anyway.” And it’s true, you really didn’t have a hard time falling in love with the slytherin.
Yes, you did freak out once the realization dawned on you, though the acceptance of your new found feelings for your friend was quick. It was bound to happen anyway; you spent most of your time with him, he was good company afterall and someone you could depend on when you need him.
Jay hums as his bright smile diminishes into a much softer one, “I could only hope. They are rather dense, so I might have to spell it out for them.”
Lucky too, you think bitterly, “they sound like an idiot, no offense.” You wince, internally scolding yourself from letting your bitterness slip through.
“They’re not, trust me.” He chuckles, fingers reaching out to push away the loose strand of hair away from your face. “Though they are clueless sometimes.”
A quick laugh falls from your lips as you shyly avert your gaze.
Just like you then.
One thing that was very peculiar with Amortentia is the fact that it smells different to each person, according to what attracts them the most. Whether it was the scent of new books, freshly mowed grass or even the bitter scent of coffee and you were dreading to be called to volunteer to share what you smell from the potion that was currently bubbling inside the golden cauldron right in front of you.
Throughout Professor Malfoy’s thorough discussion of the potion, you avoid eye-contact at all cost with the man, choosing to flip through your notes. There wasn't anything specific you were looking for; you already knew what you wrote like the back of your hand, so it was just mostly distracting yourself while also paying attention to the Potion’s Master.
“L/N?” The professor’s voice calls out.
You freeze, blood running cold as you look up with wide eyes, “y-yes professor?”
“Would you mind sharing what Amortentia smells like to you?”
“M-Me?” You gulp, ignoring the piercing stare coming from your right.
“Yes you, L/N. You are the only L/N I know of.” The professor arches an eyebrow, “any time now, Y/N.”
“Right, sorry.” Not wanting to prolong the awkwardness, you took a whiff.
Something citrus-y… like burnt mandarin or something… Sandalwood, chocolate—the rich kind and… hair gel.
In short, you smelt Jay; his perfume, the chocolate he had given you last night and the brand of hair gel he can never live without and like hell would you let anyone know just what attracted you, not when Jay has worn the same perfume for years now so obviously he’d be aware of the notes it had.
“Really now? I’m sure there’s at least one scent that attracts you.” You shake your head, “pity.” Professor Malfoy mumbles before turning to your seatmate, “Mr. Park? What do you smell?”
You shut your eyes, preparing for the worst. Then again, why were you even getting your hopes up when you know there’s a slim to none chance of him liking you back. Still, you were allowed to get hurt, even if you weren’t overly fond of the feeling.
“I smell nothing too, Professor.” Jay says simply, withdrawing himself from the cauldron. “I guess we aren’t attracted to anything at the moment.”
The Potions professor arches an eyebrow at you both before letting out a sigh, “very well. I’d still like some volunteers. Merlin knows how I long I spent brewing the stupid thing only for it not to work—any hands?” Almost half of the class—mostly the girls—raise their hands.
With a sigh of relief, you turn to face Jay who has his jaw set as he rummaged through his bag, “Jay?”
He only grunts in reply as he continues his search.
Needless to say, he doesn’t talk to you much after that, choosing to stay quiet as the both of you work on brewing the liquid luck potion, Felix Felicis. Jay would usually ask you for help as you were obviously the current best at Potions, but this time he asked his housemate Sunoo for help, who was two tables away mind you while you were quite literally sat right beside him. He asked you to save him a seat after all, so naturally you found the whole “Jay avoiding you” thing odd.
(Sunoo doesn’t even try to hide his confusion at the turn of events too, shooting the both of you questioning looks while he whispered to his seatmate, Jungwon about the absurdity of it all when Jay left to walk back to his shared desk.)
This continued on for days and the only thing you could do was avoid Jay as well and frankly, everyone who was close to you both were sick of how absolutely miserable you both looked. It felt like walking on eggshells when it came to dealing with Jay too. All of you were well aware of the temper he has on him so it was a little difficult to approach him in these trying times.
And it seems that this was their last straw as Jake all but shoves you into an abandoned classroom with Sunoo snickering behind him.
“And you better make-up or both of you aren’t leaving this place! Ever!”
Your eyes widen, “both? What—” But Jake has already slammed the door shut and you can hear Jungwon’s voice muttering a locking spell. “Assholes.”
“Yeah, can you complain about them later and get me out of these ropes?”
You quickly turn on your heel to face Jay sitting on a chair bound by ropes, looking understandably pissed.
“Jeez, they went all out huh?” you muse, not minding the glare sent your way as you fish out your wand from your robes, “which one of the problem children did this?” Jay snorts as you grab onto the rope, pointing at it with your wand.
“Sunghoon did. He looked like he enjoyed it a little too much when he levitated me in the air to bring me here.” He sighs, throwing his head back to look at the ceiling. “Kind of unfair that Jake only dragged you here without using any magic.”
“You know him. Our Jake is too sweet for his own good.” Giggling, you made sure you were aiming at just the rope and nowhere else. “Diffindo.” you mumble and you watch in satisfaction as the ropes fall to the ground.
“Thank you.” Jay says as he stretched his arms above his head.
“No problem.” You give him a quick smile before sighing, heading to sit on one of the wooden desks scattered about the room. “How long do you think they’ll keep us here?”
Jay looks over to you gazing out the dusty windows with a thoughtful pout, kicking your legs back and forth. He too lets out a sigh as he pinched the bridge of his nose as he stalks towards you. “Knowing them, probably until dinner time. Absolute menaces, they are.”
“Oh don’t you know it.” You crack a smile, looking down at your lap.
“You lied by the way.” Jay starts, “back in Potions a few days ago.”
Your head quickly snaps back up to stare at him, knowing where he was going with this. “What are you talking about? I didn’t.”
“Yes, you did. You may be looking at me straight in the eyes right now, little raven, but I know you’re lying when you look anywhere else but the person you’re talking to.” Jay is firm with his words, leaving you no room to argue as he stands before you with his arms crossed. His robes were no where on his person again, leaving him in only is Hogwarts’s issued jumper with the sleeves pushed back to expose his forearms.
You gulp, leaning backwards when he takes another step closer, “and If I was?”
“Then you better be honest with me right now,” both of his hands slam on the wooden surface of the table you’re sitting on, caging you in. “What did the Amortentia smell like to you?”
There’s no way you can escape from this, not when Jay was already in your personal space and completely serious at the moment. You already know how he gets when his mind is set on something; he’s a stubborn soul and he will do anything to get what he wants until he’s satisfied, so attempting to deflect this confrontation would be useless, now that he has you where he wants you.
And so with bated breath, you come clean.
“It smelt like burnt mandarin and sandalwood, your perfume; the chocolate you gave me before and—” you swallowed thickly, lip trembling as you shut your eyes tightly, “your hair gel. The one you always use—the potions smelt like you.” Your face feels like it’s on fire at this point, from the close proximity and now that you have basically admitted that you like him. The embarrassment only grows further when you hear a low laugh emit from him.
“See? Now that wasn’t so hard, was it?” He whispers, voice smooth and sweet and you shiver when you feel his fingers tap the underside of your chin. “Look at me… please.”
“I can’t... or I will cry right now.” and you definitely feel like you were about to burst into tears.
“Don’t be silly, little raven. Aren’t you gonna ask what the Amortentia smelt like to me?”
That’s when you decide to finally look at him. “What did it smell like to you then?” You ask, your voice equally soft and low as you take in the small but fond smile gracing his lips.
Jay hums, “parchment paper, that special ink you bought from Scrivenshaft’s and your perfume; black currant and vanilla.” and as he said each scent, he leaned in closer and closer until the tip of his nose brushed against yours. “Guess we were both lying, huh?” He smirks.
“Just shut up and kiss me, asshole.” You grumble before pulling him by the nape to push your lips against his.
It’s crazy how much your heart fluttered at the feeling of his plush lips moving against yours. Never would you have expected you’ll get to have Jay like this, in an abandoned classroom no less but hey, whatever works and after all, you weren’t exactly picky since the slytherin didn’t seem to mind the dusty and dreary place. The kiss started off sweet, almost shy in a way since the mutual feelings were just recently revealed; paired with the way Jay held your face with both of his hands so gently that it almost made you tear up from how tender he is with you.
Your hands find purchase on his waist, pulling him closer so he could stand in between your legs and you were about to deepen the kiss when you felt something cool and hard hit your nose bridge. You pull away to see what it was and you realized it was his glasses.
Jay clicks his tongue, hands withdrawing from your face, “fucking glasses…” he mumbles and quickly pulls the from his face to place them in his pockets before capturing your lips again.
You don’t know how long both of you spent the time soaking up each other’s presence in the classroom, but you weren’t against it at all, not when everything felt so right; the rough pads of his fingers caressing your cheek, you jaw and down to your neck while his other hand held onto the nape of your neck. You on the other hand kept your fingers tangled in his hair as the other held on tightly onto his sweater to keep him close.
However, just as you were about to get lost into each other once again, a loud knock had you both pulling away from each other, looking at the door.
“Uh guys? Are you both okay in there?” It’s Riki. “You’ve been really quiet… you didn’t kill each other, right?”
Quite the opposite actually. “No! We didn’t! We’re okay now!” You yell, squealing when you feel Jay’s lips brush against your pulse point. “Just… give us a few more minutes to talk things over please!”
“Okay! Tell us when you’re ready so Jungwon can undo the spell!”
“Yeah sure!” You affirm, “Jay you are going to be the death of me!” You hiss.
Jay only chuckles in response, burying his nose into your shoulder for a moment before he settles on bumping his forehead against yours with a sigh. “Please be mine, Y/N.” His thumbs strokes your cheekbones as his eyes, appearing soft with an unimaginable amount of fondness, gaze into yours. “Or else I won’t hear the end of it from my dad who keeps asking me if I’m your boyfriend yet.”
“I’ve only met your dad three times, he already likes me that much?” You giggle, pulling his hand away from your face to give the pad of his thumb a peck. “And of course I’ll be yours, it’s all I’ve ever wanted from you.”
Summary: After one fateful night, you find yourself transmigrated into your favorite novel as the Empress that shares the same name as you. The first thing you see when you wake up is the bright sunlight beaming down harshly on your face. Your eyes squint as you try to adjust to the light as though they haven’t been open in days. You take this time to look around your surroundings, and the first thing you notice is the head laying on the side of your bed.
You didn’t even need the person to turn around to know it was Hoseok sleeping soundlessly next to you as he held your hand tightly in his. Your eyes soften at his messy hair as you gently squeeze his hand, slightly touched that he stayed by your side.
Raising your head, you realize there were two more people present in the room as well. Jimin and Yoongi were both sleeping in what you would assume is an uncomfortable position on a couch situated in the room. You can already hear Yoongi complaining about the crane in his neck when he wakes up.
You only turn your head when you feel Hoseok shift on the side. With closed eyes, he lifts his head while letting out a quiet yawn.
“Good morning,” you whisper in a soft voice.
The moment the words leave your mouth, the man jumps in his seat as he opens his eyes wide. He sucks in a deep breath before he lunges forward and engulfs you in his arms. “Y/n!” he cries out, tightening his grip on you as though he was afraid you’d disappear from his sights.
From the corner of your eyes, you notice both Jimin and Yoongi jolt in their spot, their groggy and alarmed faces looking all over the room before they land on you. Jimin noticeably tears up and in the next second he’s rushing forward, “Y/n!” You let out a soft ‘oof’ upon impact when he hugs you just as tightly as Hoseok, “thank goodness,” he breathes out shakily.
You didn’t know what to say, so you just hug them back as they both softly cry on your shoulder. Lifting your head, you’re surprised to find Yoongi’s eyes welling up with tears as they stare into yours.
Hoseok finally pulls away, turning his head to the older male as he gestures for him to hug you as well knowing he was dying to do just that.
You can tell Yoongi was hesitating in his spot, but when you send him a reassuring smile it’s like something snaps in him and the tears finally come cascading down his cheeks. He’s springing into action as he rushes forward and brings you into his arms.
He sucks in a shaky breath, “thank goodness,” he whimpers while burying his head in the crook of your neck, his tears falling on your shoulder, but you could care less about that as you gently rub circles on his back. Though this gesture seems to have made him cry even harder.
the sheer amount of joy seeing this new update gave me :))) i fell in love with the healing in this chapter, not only for kiara to finally find acceptance and forgiveness for the boys but also for all the boys to have the long needed talk with kiara. also for jungkook to be forgiven and comforted by oc 🥺🤧

first time meeting taehyun
the first time you met taehyun was in a cinema, where he sat one seat apart from you, him with his friends beside him and you with yours. Having an empty seat between you, he asked if it's fine for him to use it to place his popcorn and you said sure why not.
half an hour into the movie, maybe you were too invested with the storyline that you had mindlessly dipped your hand into his popcorn. mind you, it was taehyun's popcorn, a complete stranger.
was it the third time? when you felt your hand met his, your eyes widened in realisation.
this isnt mine.
"you know, you can always ask for some, instead of stealing them," he whispered, a laugh threatening to escape. even with the poor lighting, the only source was coming from the screen, you can still see his well-defined face feature cracked into a smile.
"o-oh my god, im so sorry, i thought this was mine," you stuttered, whispering too.
let's just say you talked your friends into leaving the movie before it even ended, even going to the extent of offering to pay for lunch, to avoid yourself from any further embarrassment.
second time
your eyes were busy scanning through the book shelves of your favourite book shop, looking for 'divergent', failing to notice taehyun not so far away from you. standing on your tippy toes to reach your desired book, you lost your balance when he suddenly spoke behind you, "well, well, isnt this the popcorn stealer,"
taehyun was fast to catch you, stopping you from falling by putting strong hands on your shoulders to steady you.
"whoa, are you okay?" and you wished you weren't. you wished you would actually pass out or something, at least you can escape this awkwardness.
"yeah, yeah im fine," you replied, regaining your balance and stepping a little bit away from him.
"which one?"
"divergent,"
"ah, of course, cause you didnt even finish the movie, huh?" you saw him pick the book effortlessly, thanks to his long legs.
you flushed in embarrassment, not really wanting to recall your stupid actions.
"hey, relax. i was just joking, you know," he searched for your face, before handing you the book.
"thank you, and not because i havent finished the movie. it's cause im a firm believer of enjoying books only after watching the movie," you explained.
"a cultured woman, i see," he nodded.
"i mean, at least we won't be too dissapointed with the movie right?" you continued.
"exactly, and i dont know if it's just me, but the details will make much more sense of the storyline,"
taehyun noticed how your face brightened, maybe cause you've finally met someone who shares the same sentiment with you.
"i like you already. friends?" you offered a hand.
"friends," he said, hand reaching yours.
few years after meeting taehyun
"taehyun, dont tell me you bought me a gift! you said we should only exchange books on christmas!" you whined.
on christmas, you and taehyun would exchange books, but the twist is, the book must be filled with your own footnotes. it makes the book much more special, as if you're reading the book in two perspectives, yours and also taehyun's. that's the tradition you've grown accustomed to, ever since you became his bestfriend, so as for now, you have 4 books which you treasured more than any book you had. you would never tell taehyun this, but if your house was caught on fire, the 4 books would be the first thing you bring.
and maybe, just maybe, you've developed a liking on taehyun's perspective, and pretty much everything about him. yes, unfortunately you've been in love with your own bestfriend for 2 years now. cliche, just like the many books you've read.
"dont worry, it's nothing much!" he said, placing the gift in the palm of your hand, closing it after.
you opened it, completely awestruck by the cute enamel pin in your hand. it was tulip shaped, thinly plated with gold.
"oh my god, this is so cute, how do you know i've been wanting this?" you hugged him a little bit too abruptly, catching him off guard.
too bad, you were too busy admiring the pin to even notice taehyun's red tinted cheeks.
"i may or may not have seen your online shopping cart," he said, rather abashed.
"you're so cute, thank you thank you thank you," you squealed, tightening your arms around taehyun's neck, while his rested on your waist.
a week after christmas
you had been reading 'love, rosie', a book taehyun gave in exchange of '', a hot chocolate in your hand. you had been crying, laughing and even smiling at the storyline (rosie and alex, two bestfriends who had been in love with each other, but somehow their timing always sucks, one of them in a relationship when the other was trying to confess)for the past week, taehyun's footnotes making it much more interesting and heartfelt.
you had been saving the last chapter for 2 days now, not wanting it to really end. that's kind of your habit when you liked a book too much. it maybe weird for anyone else, but really, that's just how much you treasured them.
taehyun had decided to come over, pestering you all day to finish the book already, but you kept on delaying, saying you dont want to. that night however, while taehyun was mindlessly scrolling on his phone, his head on your laps, you finally read the final page, and you find the story beautiful, but you were very much distracted with taehyun's footnote at the bottom of the page.
"i dont want us to miss the timing just like rosie and alex did, so would you like to go out with me?"
your book fell out from your hand, almost hitting taehyun in the nose. good thing you've put down your hot chocolate on the end table. you cant really believe it, your feelings have finally been reciprocated.
"i take it, you've seen the note?" he asked cautiously.
"uhuh," you lowered your head to meet his eyes.
"and?"
"are you kidding me? yes, taehyun. yes," you felt like your heart was about to jump out of your chest.
as if that's not enough damage, he lifted his head from your laps to sit up, kissing your nose, moving to your forehead next, making you giggle, your poor heart skipping a beat at the cute gesture.
"thank you, y/n, for making me the happiest man tonight," he mumbled against your forehead.
"but wait, i felt like i've seen you reading love, rosie a few years ago?" you asked, tilting your head. taehyun's hand instantly went to pat your head, cooing at your cute demeanour.
"yeah, i've been meaning to ask you out since the past two christmases, but i didnt have the courage to,"
