You know those things you were taught at some point, where you're 90% sure that it's bullshit, also above zero chance that it was simply made up on the spot, and you can't even remember who taught you that, but you still remember nonetheless?
I vaguely recall at some point being taught about the "terrier test", where you can determine whether a mixed dog that's part terrier breed counts as a terrier, or whether a whole breed you're unfamiliar with are terriers or not. You hould up a rope toy or something similar that the dog can safely and comfortably bite into, at your own shoulder level.
If the dog - unprompted, not encouraged or forbidden from doing so, fully voluntarily - jumps at the toy, reaches it, and dangles on by their teeth, supporting their entire body weight with jaw force and stubbornness alone, and seems to enjoy doing so, that's a terrier.
How do you define whether a creature counts as a bug? Is it a matter of size, shape, taxonomy, vibes, or some other option I may have overlooked? To explain what I mean:
Bug is defined by size - all small critters, from true insects, arachnids and annelids, millipedes and centipedes are all bugs
Bug is defined by shape - a bug is an invertebrate with at least six legs
Bug is defined by taxonomy - only true bugs, of the class insecta and order hemiptera, are bugs
Bug is defined by vibes - any creature that's sufficiently small and skitters in an insect-like fashion is a bug. Your auntie's ancient beady-eyed lapdog counts as a bug.
there's a really fun balance when you know someone has a crush on you where you can tease them for having a crush on you without letting them know you know they have a crush on you. this only works because people who have crushes will analyze everything you say but not very well. anyway, i love playing with my food.
Gosh, that's so perfect. Your friend is actually the only one who is engaging with this post correctly. Supersedes my original intent, even. Sorry, I bow to her wisdom here. Tell your friend I hope she's having fun!
audibly said "oh, baby" while watching the episode. im sick to my stomach
My boss and I both think the other is profoundly incompetent but alas, they're wrong and everyone else agrees with me because I am very cool and attractive and good at my job 💕

the funniest part of this post to me is that the reblog:like ratio is nearly 1:1. nobody’s just liking everyone who sees this video goes yeah i gotta inflict it on as many people as possible

One of my favourite Murderbot quirks is it's absolutely refusal to acknowledge that Dr. Bharadwaj is it's therapist.
Every meeting I have with HR about my boss comes as a shock to HR.
"They said everything was fine!" "I'm disappointed to hear that" "They've been reporting that things are going well!"
Idk besties maybe it wouldn't be a shock that the person I reported for being resistant to change, poor communication skills and causing adverse conflicts in the workplace would fail to accurately assess their own performance
Newsflash! Cunts who make employees cry and then say "There's nothing to cry about" PERHAPS are NOT the most reliable narrators of how interpersonal conflicts are going.
there is no amount of language learning that is useless. I think it obviously scales up in wonderfulness as you learn more, but even just being at the point where you can recognize what language is being spoken or written is still a more useful thing than not knowing that. it is lovely to say hi to people in their language! any attempt to learn is important. you don't get fluent overnight. and you don't have to get fluent overnight. more knowledge is better than none. it isn't just all or nothing.
