This is a blog for people who are thinking of leaving, want to leave, or have left the organization of Jehovahs Witnesses. I am bisexual and currently wanting to leave the organization but since I am a minor so I cannot do so.

As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses I often likened the preaching work to spreading the cure for cancer.

Now I see more and more that I wasn’t so much spreading the cure, as the cancer itself.

They only want to add to their victimization repertoire. The false equivalency is mind numbingly gross and ppl who leave them have no excuse to feed it’s validity. Centuries of oppression is very different from an ideological difference.

Alright it’s time for some math:

There are 8,340,982 JWs in the world– a little over 1% of the global population (ten mil bible studies and twenty mil memorial attendees too, but I’m not counting them). 65% are converts, meaning 35% were raised in the religion. 66% of people raised in the religion end up leaving

By that logic, there are approximately 1,926,766.84 unseen and unheard ex Jehovah’s Witnesses in the world

Sometimes I get lost in the never ending spiral of people I used to know on Facebook. I’m always checking to make sure people seem like they’re still doing alright.

Are they still in a cult? (Fingers crossed they left) Well, that bitch that shunned me is still fat or got fat.

And then I feel terrible and have to flee, leaving my amazing technicolor dreamcoat behind. Curse you facebook and you’re evil temptations.

The worst is when I actually message someone to let then know I still care about them and NEVER receive any sort of courteous reply whatsoever.

Would you be considered an apostate?

I don’t know what the criteria for apostate is anymore.  I think the word apostate is a tool they use to instill fear.

I think for myself.  I don’t have a faith or religion.  I don’t believe in god. 

But I also don’t try to advertise my beliefs.  The only thing I speak out about is the trauma you can encounter when leaving the JW’s.  If someone wants to leave, they should be able to without tearing apart their entire lives, without feeling guilt for years, and without having to essentially rewire their thought processes.  You shouldn’t have to rebuild that much if you decide to leave a religion.  It shouldn’t be THAT destructive.

The shunning thing is also just absurd.

I usually only talk about what I believe if I’m asked, and if I feel comfortable with the person I’m talking to.  Because my beliefs are mine.

Never let anyone tell you thinking is bad. Critical thinking is essential. Never blindly follow authority; that’s how the worst atrocities in the world were committed. You have a right to ask questions, and if someone tries to convince you you don’t, that’s a serious red flag

If your beliefs are well founded, then asking questions and getting answers should reaffirm them, not threaten them. If all it takes to topple your belief system is actually sitting down and thinking about what is being said, then maybe those aren’t really your beliefs. You need to be able to ask questions

Best thing about this mini holiday

Honestly something I’ve enjoyed more than anything about my parents being away is the lack of religious bullshit I’m exposed to. When you’re irreligious, being in a very religious environment is straining. Not only mentally and emotionally but intellectually too. You’re just sitting there thinking, yep bullshit. That’s bollocks. Science proves you wrong there. But when you’re finally out of that environment it’s so amazing. You’re literally free. It’s a small taste of freedom and I’ve loved every second of it.

When I was eight, I got baptised. I remember my mom telling me she was so proud of the choice I made. But when I turned 13, I remember telling her I didn’t want to attend church any more. She told me I was too young to make a decision like that. I realized then that I only had the illusion of choice. If it wasn’t in the confines of my parents beliefs, then it didn’t exist.

An email I received today. She’s sending out information of same sex couples with children so the children can be kidnapped. She entitled it “Time to strike back”. If that doesn’t suggest harmful intentions I don’t know what does. Please be extremely careful what you post on tumblr, on twitter, facebook, anywhere. Do NOT give out your full name or your address, or even the town in which you live. Look out for one another, and don’t answer any suspicious anons. Especially if they use your name in quotation marks. Sophie M Herold is still out there, she always will be, so please spead this message and warn people. She’s attacking in silence. We don’t need more people dying because of her actions.========This disgusting excuse of a human being of needs to stop, but the only way it can be stopped is if you spread this! That’s terrible but also good? Terrible in that they felt the need to visit you because you skipped their holiday, but it’s good because it sounds like they may leave you alone now. Or at least visit you less/be wary around you. I hope you are doing well despite the bad experience you had recently.
