shane will learn ilya’s language bc he loves ilya. ilya would have considered learning another language for shane but unfortunately the only other language shane knows is french. and as a european it is his god given duty to reject as much french from his life as humanly possible. also english was hard and he got better at it to try and impress shane so i think if shane ever brings up ilya potentially learning french he might have to sleep in a different bed that night

You will never catch me on the JJ hate train. The only thing different with Hayden is his reluctant acceptance of Ilya was mostly off screen and that he was not surprised with the information through a video leak. He actually had time and space to process that information.

JJ and Hayden are Shane’s closest friends in his team and among the few that are outwardly supportive of his sexuality. He probably thinks that someone more reserved and awkward like Shane doesn’t have that much game and could use some help meeting people. Hayden does the same thing for him with women when he assumed Shane was straight. You can also see JJ trying to get Shane out more by getting him to go to the club where he meets Rose for the first time.

The thing is, when you have a 3 best friends dynamic, speaking as someone who has pretty much exclusively only had the 3 best friends dynamic, you have to make sure no one feels left out or like a third wheel because that shit does not feel great. Now look at the fact that Hayden is the only friend between the two that knows. And on top of that, JJ has multiple times tried to set Shane up with someone but has been brushed off and doesn’t understand why. So when it was confirmed through Hayden’s video that he knew Shane’s secret, it probably felt like the two of them have been having a giggle behind his back every time he tries to set Shane up. Like they have an inside joke between them and JJ’s cluelessness is the punchline. He knows of course that Shane isn’t that kind of guy, just like he knows Shane is so hockey brained that he would never throw a competition, but it certainly must have felt like it at that moment.

We also know that Shane’s overthinking tends to lead to procrastination against confrontation, be it internal or external. One example being him running away during the tuna melt scene because he was forced to confront that their relationship had changed. He mentions at the cottage that he thinks he would’ve told his parents already that he was gay if it wasn’t for the fact that he was dating his rival, but knowing his character, he probably wouldn’t have until something forces him to. He wants to tell JJ, but keep putting it off and it blows up in his face.

ok so to me the thing about jj is like yay he's so smiley and friendly! well yeah, he's gotta be as a black man playing a really white sport. everybody loves jj! jj makes damn sure everybody loves jj. jj is the life of the party. and so to jj like... well, maybe shane gets it, right? sure shane doesn't GET it get it but he maybe gets like, something. maybe shane feels the pressure to perform and maybe shane knows what it's like to have everything you're ever doing be proving or disproving something.

and like i get the sense that jj might be who everybody calls when they want to party, but shane is the one jj calls when he wants to have a slightly more chill moment without having to be Mr Super Fun JJ. basically i can imagine them just playing xbox in silence. that's his bro. jj might be friends with everyone, but jj trusts shane.

and then who turns out to be the keeper of shane's secrets? who does shane trust?
