The best thing about the Kyoshi novels is them giving us MORE for the previous Avatars. Kyoshi’s no longer The Murdery One. Kuruk’s not just The Bad One. Yangchen’s not The Perfect One. All Avatars are, above all else, human. These are humans tasked with nigh-impossible, larger-than-life duties.

AITA?

I [M17] lost my parents in the war and have been trying to get revenge by killing enemy troops ever since. This new girl [F14] wandered into my town and showed signs of an obvious a crush on me. She knitted me a really ugly hat so that was how I know she had it bad for me. She was cute and all, so I wanted her to stick around so we could make out and stuff, but the main thing I cared about was that she was really strong and could help me with a revenge scheme I’d been thinking about for a while: filling the reservoir with extra water so we could flood a local town where enemy troops were stationed. There were civilians and families from my own nation in the town too, but it was worth it to kill the enemy troops IMO. So by flirting with her and leading her on, I earned her trust so I could take advantage of her feelings to get her to do stuff for me. I made up a story about the enemy planning to burn down a forest and she easily agreed to fill the reservoir. In the meantime, because her brother [M16] was suspicious of me (he saw me start a fight with an old man [M100?] at one point and besides, he was probably jealous of me in some way–I’m really hot and a chad), I also told my friends [M19 and F15] to keep him distracted for a while while I did the plan. Maybe kill him if they had to? I like to let my friends make their own decisions about little stuff like that. But anyway, he got free and his sister realized I had lied about the reason for filling the water. The two of them evacuated the civilians with the help of their other friend [M112] and then the siblings scolded me a while. All I did was flirt with a younger girl and lie to her and then try to kill a whole town of civilians who had nothing to do with the troops who killed my parents. AITA?

NTA. The girl gave you her word that she would help and she betrayed you. There is nothing more devastating than not being able to trust those closest to you. I was almost going to say YTA for putting your trust in people, even your friends who couldn’t do the right thing and kill that girl’s brother. My father always said that trust is for fools, and fear is always best to keep people under your control. Maybe next time you can remind your friends of who’s in charge.

Edit: some of you peasants keep whining about the town and how ‘it’s wrong to kill civilians’ but clearly none of you know what it takes to be a ruler. If you were in my war room and you spoke out to me like that there would be consequences, just ask my stupid older brother

Yesterday at work these two 12yo boys came through my line and i’m instantly like. oh Boy. Because solo children at a grocery store are always forces of chaos, good or bad

But thankfully these ones were totally pleasant, and when i asked if they wanted a receipt one of them pulled out a random fuckin receipt from his bag and asked “Do YOU???” and y’all, i lost my shit… What a power move. When will i ever be this funny
