What I Learned in Boating School Is...
It’s been a few months since I last posted, and I can honestly attribute that to the countless hours I spent working this past summer. It’s safe to say I spent more time filling papers, answers phones and staring at cement walls, painted with horrible off blue paint, that I did actually having a summer. My days started before the sun came up and normally ended well after it had set. Did I mention I worked in a dungeon? No windows, except the front door which faced a cement walkway…but it was lovely I swear!
Back to the case at point, it’s well past time for a bit of an update on my crazy life. My journey this past summer started off in late May when I returned back to Pennsylvania for a summer internship, and finding time to recharge. The summer proved to be a bit more chaotic and stressful then I had intended. Of course with anything in life, I learned a great deal, not only about myself but also about the people in my life, both past and present. My internship, while demanding and stressful was a wondering learning opportunity. I had the chance to meet some great people, to work in new environments, and learned to trust in the fact that customer service is always important, no matter what industry you are in. Being kind to people, will always get your further in life. Between working crazy hours, and the lack of sleep, I did manage to get in time with my family and friends. While it wasn’t as much as I would have liked too, it’s not always quantity, but quality that matters. I also managed to:
· Slip in a few vacations
· got to see my baby brother graduate his Army training
· conquer Savannah with a good friend
· go crazy in my own backyard with my favorites
· attend my 10th year of Warped Tour which was perfect as always
· met lots of new people, reconnect with old ones
· made peace with parts of my pasts
· found some great new places to eat, to shop and to explore
· managed to get a killer tan
· road tripped just about the entire Eastern half of the United States
· found a new hatred for driving
· got to hug my parents
· Watch my nephews, niece and goddaughter grow…even if it was just for a short time.
· Laughed, cried and got lost too many times
· Found that friends will be there for you, even when you don’t expect it and people are always willing to help those, who want to help themselves
· Learned that home can be two different places
Lastly and most importantly, I learned this summer that sometimes going home, is exactly what you need to keep pushing you forward.
I’ve been back in Dublin for over a week now, and of course it’s been all smiles. I forgot how much I adore this city in the 3 months I was gone. There are so many small things about this place, that add to its charm and character. From the sheer kindness of the people here, to the mass diversity of the city and its residents, to my college so small yet filled with students with such big ideas, the food, the coffee, the shit weather, and my little nook in Rathmines with my favorite California’s and the rest of my little family here. It’s so wonderful to be back.
I think that should just about cover it. Enough to get all these crazy thoughts swirling in my head down, and have something to look back on. I hope this updates you if you’re reading or care to know what’s been going on. I’m heading into my final year of my Bachelors and cannot believe it’s here. This year, of course will not be without its challenges and changes, but I’m welcoming them with open arms.
Til Next Time
Cheers
