This Troublemaker (at Kano, Nigeria)
I hung out for a bit with these lot yesterday at a village called Kuka in Gabasawa Local Government. They were selling snacks near the river. These girls said that they don't have a school in the village. They only had one religious school that only the boys are allowed to go to. This school that they do have, has only one teacher that shows up sometimes. It is very troubling to see people living like this in 2016, just less than an hour away from Kano city. They were very shy when I asked for they're names some of them told me and some were too shy they covered their faces. Those little girls were so adorable. While I was sitting around these girls I overheard them talking about their boyfriends and marriage stuff. Most of them were under 10 years old. why were they talking about marriage? This bothered me a lot. I couldn't help but think that these are the type of girls that become child brides and end up getting fistula and other related health problems because they got pregnant way too early. They're are babies themselves for crying out loud. From what I've seen in documentaries when women get diseases like that in villages they get abandoned, mistreated and ridiculed as if it was somehow it's they're fault they got sick. Well I hope that I was over reacting and that horror story never comes to pass because that is a very scary thought. They sit on very fertile land and don't benefit from it. Villages like these all around the country are responsible for most food we eat but they have been condemned to wastefulness. What's even more disturbing the most is how they don't even know what they're missing (their rights) They seemed content with their condition, It's like the Stockholm syndrome. IT IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR CHILDREN ANY WHERE TO NOT HAVE ADEQUATE ACCESS TO EDUCATION. the girl child always gets the short end of the stick. Chances are they're mothers didn't go to school either. All they get is early marriage and lots of kids that they can't take care of due to lack of access to adequate medication for family planning (which some people reject due to lack of education) It's a vicious cycle that needs to end.
