Asshole Dairies: Why I Divorced Consumerism and You Should Too
Build your portfolio... gain your freedom... help those in need.. do what you love... travel at the drop of a dime..visit other nations... learn about other cultures... raise beautiful children with a massive amount of knowledge and emotional acuity.... sit back and relax as your impact in the world is felt. Notice none of this has anything to do with live in a big house, buy the latest clothes, build house in your village, open business in Nigeria, drive luxury cars, pop bottles at clubs, have an expensive wedding, or any other mainstream typical life of a Nigerian you can think of. I see the world as people worshipping "things"... consumerism is idolatry... they want the latest clothes, the latest shoes, they want to drive the fast cars, they want to live in the biggest house, they want to look like what they believe others define as success but yet they are actually not successful because they've yet to fully understand the true meaning of success in life. The culture of this country is not normal and is definitely not the type of life we should lead as Christians. We've yet to fully grasp how much we feed the appetite of consumerism and greed, FI is not the pursuit of money with the idea of being rich, rather is the elimination for the need of money. Not needing to worry about money allows one to lead a life that's vastly different from the one others lead. FI gives you choice... even though I have money I still choose not do be wasteful... I'd rather use my money to impact the lives of children in my village.. than to drive a new Benz... to me that means more. I also don't want to sound like I'm passing judgement on others because everyone is free to spend their time and money however they feel fit. But the freedom I envision with FI involves a path that's not travelled... and with that you will feel like I am attacking you....just like when a preacher asks you to change your sinful ways. We all react because we are all sinners... you react to this because you're drinking from the well consumerism and you find it normal.... for those who have woken up and noticed the path they've been following is leading to disappointment and that a better life is available to those willing to sacrifice the glamour of today's world...this is my manifesto on why I am no longer a consumer in today's world.
