honestly I'm very grateful that I got involved in queer community organizing basically as soon as I turned 18, because that's how I was exposed to other queer people saying things like "I just wouldn't trust a bisexual" and "I don't believe in that privilege stuff" and "I don't like when people act like you have to be a feminist if you're gay," all of which taught me at a very young age the crucial truth that queer people can be very stupid and very wrong
I think there's a pervasive tendency among very young baby queers to get kind of dazzled by being among other gay people for the first time and that combined with the heady drug of the first taste of independence can really make you start thinking of The Queer Community(TM) like it's one big enlightened rainbow utopia but unfortunately we have dipshits and malevolent freaks like every other demographic. Peter Thiel is in here.
my condolences to the people learning that Peter Thiel is gay from this post
now that I am a grown adult and I got to see which of my peers chose to have a career in the military, I feel like I am even more qualified to mock the troops. truly a job for assholes
American democrats who are credulous that this bombing will lead to meaningful democratic reform in Iran are so funny. Yeah mate how many elementary schools in your home town would you be comfortable with china bombing if it meant they also did in trump? how many of your family members would you enjoy burying the loose bits and pieces of if it meant Hegseth caught one too?
“no job is worth your physical & mental health” i hauve. Bills.
i love when “just quit!” is thrown out as a suggestion. like damn thank you i’ve never thought of that before ever. in my life. There are these things called groceries and doctor visits
Capitalism is a hostage situation, and we are all the hostages.
UNGRATEFUL tech companies are saying things like "turn off your ad blocker" and "we need your photo id" instead of "thank you so much for not just pirating our shit, youre so handsome"
luddite dicksucking has got to be the cringiest shit ever. "they didn't hate technology they were just rent-seekers who fought against technologies that allowed for greater productivity because it threatened their livelihood" ok that's significantly worse
"Rent seekers" oh fuck off, textile workers faced total immiseration after the introduction of the handloom. Textile work after its introduction was characterised by child labour, miniscule wages and industrial disease. People have every right to resist being forced into extreme poverty.
the industrial revolution was both excellent for the human race overall, and also exceptionally brutal for many of those living through it, often unnecessarily so. the luddites lacked the proper class consciousness to correctly identify the source of their immiseration and so wasted their efforts trying to turn back the wheel of time in order to regress society back to an era where their machines weren't able to do their jobs, rather than embracing the potential of machine looms and ensuring workers were the ones benefitting from them. as the inheritors of the entirety of human history so far we have the privilege of being able to observe and learn from it in order to not repeat the mistakes of the past, and history has demonstrated the luddites to have failed miserably, and it will keep failing miserably until we learn our lesson. glorifying the luddites only leads us down the same path of failure they went down
you might notice that what you suggest luddites did instead was also attempted, and the people who did it kept failing miserably for decades also. that's because it was never about being right or wrong, and always about power. also not every technology is like the automated textile loom,
so i would kindly ask you to stop obfuscating, and post your actual take. which i suspect is "ai good stop fighting ai", but maybe i'm wrong
"Halloween adults are just as bad as disney adults" "Furries are worse than disney adults"
I gotta be real, I thought we were critical of disney adults for aggressive loyalty to a really gross mega-corporation, or refusal to engage with media that isn't for kids, not because people... have hobbies?
God he's the funniest person alive actually.
does anyone know if we've epically defeated fascism by ironically emasculating its figureheads yet
it appears the only effect the epstien files has had so far is people doubling down on calling donald trump a pansy ass little faggotron 3000 bottom bitch who takes hard cocks from putin in his gay butthole but like, in a vaguely leftist and progressive way because americans are fucking morons
People who insist tumblr must be 90% LGBT because their self-curated dash is have never gotten a weird comment on a post and went to check the person's blog and discovered an entire deep subculture of christian and tradwife users reblogging anti-abortion quotes and transphobia between each other. I promise you they're on here.
this is just what it's like being on a platform that doesn't necessarily push inflammatory people and things toward you on purpose
Like yeah that's the real reason. Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, they shove right wing media into your face because they are monetarily incentivized to get people arguing with each other on the platform. Tumblr does not do that, full stop.
Here, we argue organically by barging into people’s homes and shouting at them at 3 am, as Hell intended.
"historically people had servants" incorrect. historically people WERE servants, and many of us still are.
I feel like people try to explain how [historical figure] had all the time to do so many Great Accomplishments and thus go "it's because they had servants". Which is true. But then leave it at that rather than continue on to the more important point that the servants actually often were as tired and overworked and unable to have time for themselves as so many of us are. "People lived this way because they had servants" okay and how were the SERVANTS living???
I really do think a big part of people's reticence to so much as tolerate, much less incorporate, new or challenging ideas into their worldview is due to the rise of algorithms whose sole purpose is to feed us an endless supply of Things that exists in overabundance for the singular purpose of keeping us mildly entertained. The algorithmic need to please for maximum financial benefit makes them averse to challenge or surprise, and so we're left with a landscape where entertainment is abundant, but variety is pre-selected.
You don't have to hunt for anything new and be open to whatever experience comes your way in the name of staving off boredom. Actively trying to step outside the bounds of The Algorithm can feel impossible and reveals just how tiny the world that's been curated for you is. You no longer have to risk being sad or scared or disgusted or uncomfortable in the hunt for something that stimulates your animal brain, unless of course that's what It knows you want.
And so our capacity for withstanding the unfamiliar in all it's attractive and repulsive permutations shrinks down, our patience withered to the nub. Incuriousness is rewarded with evermore inoffensive slop and we are all the worse for it.
Comfort über alles.
before anyone forgets. every fandom is annoying. hope this helps ❤️
Tamir Rice should be celebrating his 23rd birthday today.
Instead, his life was stolen at just 12 years old when he was killed by an Ohio police officer.
We are thinking of you today and always, Tamir. Sending so much love to your family. 🤍
