It had been a month since Aaravos was freed of the mirror. A month, and this was the first time he'd felt he could relax. He was alone, stars peeking through a canopy of leaves above him, careful spells protecting him--and nothing that he needed to do for the next few days except wait. He combed his hand idly through his hair. A loose strand wrapped itself around his fingers. He smiled at it, and, on a whim, murmured "Kees i tahw em wohs." His eyes grew black. - Aaravos-the-Archmage ✦
Colt looked up from his hands as a familiar pulling sensation overtook him. He took one involuntary step, then stopped himself from taking another. It had been awhile since someone new had used dark magic. Colt was becoming weary of his little room of darkness, tired of seeing nothing and waiting for something knew. Yet this pull seemed… off. Stronger.
This must be a very powerful person…
He sucked in a breath, then opened up the doorway from his dark existence, into the wakig world. He looked around a moment, finding trees situated around him, in a clearing. It was during the night, though Colt couldn’t tell when in the night.
He froze when he turned to face the user.He had been expecting a human, who else would need to use dark magic? Yet… there was an elf instead. With pale white hair and star-like skin…. horns and ears.
Colt took a cautious step forward, before retreating and settling behind a tree. His hand fell through the bark, he still couldn’t touch things, but he could care less. He couldn’t be seen until he struck a deal… at least with humans… Perhaps that was why he was hiding behind a tree?
Colt didn’t really know, it was an automatic response.
Still, he watched the other, wondering if the elf was sleeping. Maybe then he could do some investigating… Why would an elf need to use dark magic?

Aaravos thought he’d seen a flicker of motion from the corner of his eye, but when he raised his head from staring at the mirror of the night sky pooled in his hands, there was nothing. Maybe a bird, or the shifting shadow of a branch. He sighed and released the spell, his eyes fading back to gold.
He’d already stayed up far too late for the joy of seeing the stars. If he wanted to stay on the same schedule as the humans, he needed sleep. He waved a hand, his pillow fluffing itself for him and his blanket smoothing itself before he laid back on it and closed his eyes. Without opening them, he twitched a finger and cast his sleep spell.
“H-Hello?” A tall red haired woman entered the manor of the Archmage. In her hands was a piece of parchment saying “looking for house maid” she looked down to double check to see if she was in the right place. Feeling a huge knot in her stomach as she was nervous to met the archmage since her last employer was... less than friendly. She cleared her throat as she spoke in a clear but small voice. “I’m here for the position of house keeper.” She said.
Aaravos wasn’t sure at first that he’d actually heard a voice; but when he left the workshop and hurried down the hall to the grand entryway, there she was. Self-consciously, he rubbed at the fine sawdust streaking his forearms.
“Ah–housekeeper? I didn’t–you must have the wrong address–”
He had never needed a housekeeper in his life; by the time he’d had a home large enough to make cleaning difficult, he’d also had magic to make it simple again. And he found scrubbing his own floors meditative.
But…
… she looked small in the massive front hall, and nervous, sending a pang of sympathy through him. Before he had even thought past that, he was saying, “… but perhaps I can find something for you anyway. What’s your name?”
The woman jumped a bit as she saw him. Her cheeks soon flushed red in embarrassment. Internally scolding herself for getting the wrong address…AGAIN!
“I-I-I’m so sorry sir. Oh! My name is Opal.” She politely bows as she was hiding her face in her long wavy hair. She raised her head back up and shows him the parchment. “Could you point me in the right…” She looks at him oddly by what he said about finding a position for her. She started digging in her brown messenger bag only to have all her papers spil out on to the floor. “Crap! I’m really sorry!” Opal said panicking as she scrambles to get all her papers in order.
“Oh--you needn’t be. It’s no trouble.” Aaravos took a step nearer and made a sweeping gesture. The papers gathered themselves into a neat stack.
“Miss Opal, was it? Where are you from?”

Christine grinned as well. “Thank you!” she replied, blushing bright pink at the praise. She ducked her head for a moment, glancing away as she did. “Thank you,” she murmured, looking back up with a sheepish smile.

He smiled warmly. “It’s only the truth, Christine.”
*approaches, carrying a small bag on one arm and a covered plate* Aaravos? I, um, I made some brownies, and I know you have an epic sweet tooth so I thought I’d bring some to share? ~Christine
*eyes light up* Oh! My little visitor was JUST telling me about brownies, but I’ve never had one before. I’d be delighted, Christine. Here, will you join me on the rooftop? I’ve decided to make the illusions around the garden a little more inviting and I’d love your thoughts. We can have a little picnic!
*smiles brightly* Of course I will! I’d love to see the garden, and having a picnic sounds perfect! *pulls you into a side hug with my free arm, then stands up on my toes to press a kiss to your cheek*
*blushes, looking pleased, and loops an arm through yours before leading the way up spiraling stairs to the rooftop. There is an illusory blue sky overhead full of lazy clouds. A handful of birds with bright blue feathers and long tails dart between them. The garden is a wide stretch of silver-gray stone paths between knee- and hip-deep planters full of lush flowers and shrubs, with stone benches scattered about. Around two edges of the roof runs a stone balustrade, and on the other two sides, roof slates slope up and away to the ridge of the roof. Tucked into a corner is a dry cistern.*
Welcome to the garden, Christine. *beams and gestures you toward a bench*
*gasps softly as we reach the rooftop, beaming and looking around with wide eyes. Lets go of your arm to approach one of the nearest planters to look more closely at the flowers before turning back to you*
Oh! Aaravos, it’s beautiful! *smiles brightly, taking a seat on the bench and gesturing for you to join me*
*smiles fondly at you for a moment before sitting beside you*
If you’d like, you can choose some flowers. Any of them you want.
*smiles, blushing* Oh, that’s so sweet. Thank you! *leans in to give you a quick hug*
So, are you ready to try brownies? I also brought that bottle of wine we never got around to opening the other day, if you want. I hope you don’t mind, but it’s the only one I knew for sure you’d like.
Mind? My dear, that sounds extraordinary. I should love to share the brownies and the wine. Thank you for thinking of me. *brushes back a strand of your hair*
*blushes again, leaning into the touch for a moment before smiling at you* Of course, Aaravos! Here, let me just…*unwraps the plate of brownies, taking one for myself before offering you the plate with a playfully raised eyebrow and a smirk* There we go. Take your pick!
*selects a brownie and bites into it carefully. Eyes widen immediately.*
Oh.
*grins widely* I’m glad you like them! *laughs a little* And now I’m glad I brought this many, because they happen to be a favorite of mine too. *smiles, biting into the brownie I took for myself*
*can’t help eating quickly, eyes closing in bliss* They’re so sweet… and so rich… Stars, your baking is extraordinary.
*watches you for a moment, smiling fondly* I might not eat so fast? I’d hate for you to get sick… *startles just slightly at the compliment, raising my eyebrows in surprise* Oh! I–Thank you so much! *smiles brightly, blushing, and glances away, taking another bite of my brownie before looking back at you, smiling again* Can I ask what made you want to change the illusions around the garden here? I know I said it already, but it really is beautiful.
*laughs self-consciously* I SHOULD slow down–I very well might make myself sick. Rich food is still difficult for me. But… stars, it is good.
*glances around the garden* When I first cast an illusion here… it was to block out the unpleasant environment beyond. But I worried that if I made it too appealing, I might get lost in it. Convince myself that it was real, and begin to neglect reality. Such are the risks of illusions, when one is isolated. But having visitors to the mirror, well. It’s safer now, there is less risk of forgetting what is real, and less reason to avoid simply enjoying a beautiful illusion.
Yeah, that’s not fun. No one wants that. *smiles at the compliment* I’m so glad you like them though! I might have to bring you sweets more often now. *chuckles*
*nods slowly, humming* I see what you mean. It makes sense. *goes quiet for a moment, before scooting closer to you, opening my arms to offer a hug* I’m glad you feel safer about it now.
*grins* I never say no to sweets.
*hugs you gratefully* I cannot possibly say how much better it feels not to be alone any longer. Particularly when the one keeping me company is you.

*tucks your hair back gently, touch lingering against the side of your jaw. My eyes drop to your smiling lips*
It was noon. Tinker's shop was closed for the day because of a sudden sickness going around, only sunfires. Not that he was actually sick, but it was a better safe than sorry situation. Runaan was out training, and there was nothing to occupy Tinker's attention fo long. He was bored. He had nothing to do but sit, read, and toy with objects he had already worked to their best ability. Well there was Aaravos but... Wait... "Hey Aara?" Tink called, seeing a paint brush nearby. He had an idea...
“Yes?”
The call came from Runaan’s study–hardly unusual these days. Aaravos had little to do around the house, and was steadily working his way through Runaan’s books.
Tinker got up from where he sat on the sofa, then all but flopped into the comfy second bean bag seat he convinced Runaan to get in the study. “I’m bored.” He stated simply, acting more like a child than a thirty year old elf.
Aaravos tried to suppress a fond smile. “A day to yourself is more days than you know what to do with, hm?” He marked his page and set his book aside, then moved to Tinker’s seat. “What would you like to be doing?”

I had quite a think about what to give you for your birthday after you gave me that gorgeous glass scepter. You put all your skill and creativity into something that suits me as well as my own skin; I hope you’ll like this even half as much.
*hands you a box wrapped in orange and gold paper. Inside is a belt with a carved carnelian buckle. Runes are tooled precisely into the leather and engraved in the stone*
I thought about all the things I want for you–that you’ll be safe, warm, and happy, that you’ll always find new things to love and laugh at and be excited about, that you’ll never lose your path or the people you care about. Not all of those can be invoked with a spell… but I worked in as many as I could.
