"Hello there! How can I help you?"
“Yeah,” Aaron said, smiling. “He’s pretty well known—especially around Central; so I guess it’s not too surprising that you know him,” he laughed a little, “especially with Mr. Mustang being your older brother.”
He raised his eyebrows. “Wow. Premature, then? It must have been scary for your parents—your brother too,” he said, frowning just the slightest. He knew how risky premature births could be—they could even cause all type of problems later in life too. He then offered a smile. “But at least you’re okay now, right?”
“That he is!” Em giggled, smiling up at Aaron. He was quite taller than herself, but so was everyone else, just he didn’t seem all that scary anymore. “I have heard a few stories about him” Which she was sure her brother slightly exaggerated on.
“Yeah… big brother told me a bit about it. He said I was small like a Xingese doll and everyone handled me just like one.” She nodded a little, shifting from one food to the other knowing he didn’t tell her everything that happened. “I was also told I’d attach onto whoever was holding me, I mean with a death like grip.” She laughed unable to picture herself doing such a thing now. “Yup! Just…. I am stuck being, well…. petite.” She puffed out her cheeks slightly annoyed, she wished she could at least get to be five feet tall, but she knew that was highly unlikely.
"What kind of stories?" Aaron asked, raising an eyebrow in interest. It wasn't that he was trying to pry or anything like that--he was simply curious and was always one to enjoy hearing a good story or two.
"Ah, I see," Aaron said blinking, before offering a smile. "Well, there's nothing wrong with being on the smaller side. I've got plenty of friends who are way shorter than I am--but they're all great just the way they are," he laughed a little before adding, "though being tall has it's perks as well."

He laughed a little as he leaned back in his chair, turning his head towards the window. “You could say I have pretty good focus. I’m able to get myself absorbed in a book once I pick it up,” he remarked, offering a smile before returning his gaze to the valley. “Actually yeah. I do quite a bit of hiking and rock climbing. I love nature and being outdoors—and to go along with that, it puts me in pretty good shape; so it’s sort of a win-win,” he chuckled lightly before leaning back towards the table.
He noticed the hesitant look in Catherine’s eyes as she stared at the book in front of her. It’s not like alchemy was anything scary, but he could understand why it was a rather intimidating topic. “Of course!” He said, grinning. “You can do anything if you try hard and give your all into what you want to do. I know you can do this,” he said in attempt to encourage her a bit.
“That’s really admirable. I wish I, um, went hiking and stuff… It looks really fun.” She smiled at him before saying without thinking: “And yes, I can see that.” At this, her face went completely red and her eyes went wide. She quickly looked down at the book again, letting a wall of hair hide hair her face.
He was encouraging her, and it was working. She started reading, biting at her lower lip as she did so. She wasn’t a fast reader, and it took her a while. She hoped she wasn’t boring Aaron, but as she turned the page, she looked up at him, blush finally rid from her face. “Um, so… You always need a circle? And I have to memorize all those signs? What if I can’t draw a perfect circle? Would it be wrong?” She could draw a perfect circle, but she was just wondering.
"If you're interested then I would be more than willing to show you around the canyon trails sometime--if you'd like, that is," he offered, smiling. It wasn't typical of him to just invite people on hiking trips with him--but well, he enjoyed the company, and Catherine seemed like a girl he would enjoy getting know a little bit better.
At her comment he blinked a few times--slightly surprised at her reaction. Was she blushing? He laughed before rubbing the back of his head. "Ah, thank you! I'm glad it shows--I guess that just means I'm working hard, right?"
As he watched her settle down from her previous comment, he directed his finger tot he symbols printed into the book. "These are the ones that you're going to want to memorize--it's called the fundamentals for a reason, after all; it's stuff that you've got to know," He said, pulling out a piece of paper as he traced a circle on the surface of it. "Not exactly," he started, looking down at his own circle. "It's not necessary for it to be spot on--though you shouldn't have something that looks nothing like a circle either," he said before smiling. "You just have to get as close to perfect as you can--and if you can't, then you just keep working on it."

"Hello there, everyone. How can I help you?"
“Yes, I do,” Aaron said, straightening out. “Her name is Isabelle Lowe—I got to school with her,” he explained. “She’s a bright girl, but has a ton of energy. I swear, she bounces off the walls at times.”
He figured that his father would have been curious about his girlfriend. Well, it was obvious just by the look on his face and the tone in his voice—even if he tried to hide it. But he couldn’t blame him, he supposed it was sort of a big deal when your first born started dating.
“We’ve been dating for about two years now,” he continued, rubbing his head before smiling. “And don’t worry—you and mom know about it.”
Edward gave the smallest smile, quickly looking up at Aaron and back to the book, “Two years, huh?” he asked, not paying too much attention to the book anymore, “You must really like her then…”
After a moment, he exhaled loudly, shaking his head, “It’s a shame I can’t remember anything…” he muttered miserably, finally giving up on the book and shutting it in his lap. He looked back up at Aaron, “How the hell are we going to explain this to everyone?”
"Yeah," Aaron started, his smile softening. "She means a lot to me.... Maybe she's a little crazy at times but well," he said, a light blush crossing his cheeks as he rubbed the back of his head, "I wouldn't want her to be any other way," he laughed.
Upon hearing his father's sigh, Aaron quickly looked back up, his attention focused on him as he frowned. "I'm not sure. It's... shocking, to say the least. But I mean, mom knows a lot about human anatomy--if anything, maybe she could help you."
“That’s right,” Aaron agreed, laughing lightly as he adjusted the strap of his bag hanging over his shoulder. “I’ll try to make into a better habit,” he said, offering a smile.
“Oh, yes,” he responded quickly—he was used to this question by now. “He’s my father,” he grinned.
He raised his eyebrows in surprise at the mention of the name Mustang. “Ah, no way. Really?” he asked, blinking. “I wasn’t aware that Mr. Mustang had a younger sister—how much younger are you than him?” Well, this was certainly surprising news to him. You learn something new everyday, he supposed.
“I will do my best as well! We both don’t want to walk into people again. Or objects…” Em paused a moment before giggling. It felt really nice to hear someone else had the same bad habit as she did.
“H-he is?” Em blinked up at Aaron in surprise, she didn’t realize he had a son. “Wow! I’ve heard a few stories about him but we never officially met before.” She wondered if that was partly because of her big brother, and or she just never ran into him.
“Yup! He is my big brother.” She beamed, rocking on her feet a few times. “I think it is partly because he is afraid someone will take me away if they know he has a younger sister?” She wasn’t completely sure, “I am about fourteen years younger than him… give or take a few months?” She flushed, hiding her face behind the bag in her arms a moment. “I-I was sort of a surprise? I was told I was a very small baby and they thought I wouldn’t make it. But here I am, the little-er-petite me who is only four eleven…”
"Yeah," Aaron said, smiling. "He's pretty well known--especially around Central; so I guess it's not too surprising that you know him," he laughed a little, "especially with Mr. Mustang being your older brother."
He raised his eyebrows. "Wow. Premature, then? It must have been scary for your parents--your brother too," he said, frowning just the slightest. “Yeah,” Aaron laughed, pulling out a chair as he took a seat next to Catherine. “A lot of there windows give a really great view of the valley too—it’s really quite breath taking,” he said, turning his gaze toward the open window. He really had to go another camping trip sometime soon—he could use it.
He sighed, smiling as he bent down, pulling a few books from his bag. “Alright, let’s start here,” he said, flipping the book open to the first page. “This volume basically covers the fundamentals. It may seem a little hard at first—but after a while you’ll get into the swing of things.”
“Mm,” Catherine murmured as she turned to look out the window. The view was indeed breath taking and her eyes went wide. The valley was beautiful! “Wow! How do you not get distracted? Um, do you ever go out there?”
As he pulled the book out, she felt herself getting nervous. This was what she wanted, right? But what if she couldn’t actually do alchemy? “Y-You think?” She looked down at the book, fidgeting at the hem of her skirt under the table. The basics of Alchemy. She could do this.
He laughed a little as he leaned back in his chair, turning his head towards the window. "You could say I have pretty good focus. I'm able to get myself absorbed in a book once I pick it up," he remarked, offering a smile before returning his gaze to the valley. "Actually yeah. I do quite a bit of hiking and rock climbing. “I guess so,” he agreed, laughing lightly. His sister always told him that he should be more aware of what’s going on around him whenever he reads—though he simply couldn’t help but getting completely absorbed whenever he picked up a book. Guess he had to learn that lesson the hard way.
He blinked at her mention of alchemy. “Ah, I see,” he said, raising his eyebrows. “So you have some interest in alchemy then?” he asked, smiling politely. “What made you pick up on alchemy? Your brother?”
He paused upon realizing he hadn’t introduced himself yet. Jeeze, he really wasn’t paying attention today. “Oh, I’m Aaron. Aaron Elric,” he smiled, holding out a hand. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Emma.”
“We will do our best to fix it, right?” Em giggled, rolling back and forth on her feet a few times. “Or in our case at least try not to get so lost in a book and walk into people or things…” She cringed slightly remembering about walking into a pole once or twice, not to mention more than a handful of doors.
“Mmm! She nodded with a large smile. “He did spark my interest in it…ah-um! No pun intended!” She flushed embarrassed, covering her face with her bag a moment. “I-I um… can only do the little stuff, I doubt I’ll be anything like my big brother. I think I’ll do it more as a side hobby and concentrate more on baking sweet yummy things. I do want to open a bakery one day in the near future.”
“That is a really nice name, Aaron.” She smiled up at him, taking his hand gently into her own and shook it lightly “It is nice to meet you too!” Now just where did she hear that last name before? It was awfully familiar… “Oh! Wait, are you related to Edward Elric by any chance? My big brother talked about him a few times.” Sometimes not in an overly nice way, “U-Um… well my big brother is Roy Mustang, as in I am also a Mustang” She smiled shyly up at him pulling her hand away after shaking it, wondering what his reaction will be. Usually people are very surprised to learn that she is his little sister, and at times they suddenly act completely different around her. Is it because they are afraid to upset her or something, and her big brother will light them on fire? He wouldn’t do something like that at all! Well… not unless they hurt her then maybe…
"That's right," Aaron agreed, laughing lightly as he adjusted the strap of his bag hanging over his shoulder. "I'll try to make into a better habit," he said, offering a smile.
"Oh, yes," he responded quickly--he was used to this question by now. "He's my father," he grinned.

“Great!” Aaron said enthusiastically, grinning. As lame as it sounded, there was just something about the library that always got him excitable. Damn. He hoped to himself that he didn’t seem like some kind of nerd.
Brushing off the over enthusiasm as he cleared his throat, Aaron held open the door for Catherine. “After you,” he said, allowing her to enter before following. “We can grab a table near the window—it’s always a favorite spot of mine.”
Catherine nodded as he held the door open for her and she smiled, giving a little giggle. “Thank you.” As she entered, she gazed around at the vastness in amazement, not expecting the library to be such a huge place. She followed Aaron to a table by the window and sat down across from him, crossing her ankles under the table as she continued to look around. “This is lovely. I can see why you like it here!”
"Yeah," Aaron laughed, pulling out a chair as he took a seat next to Catherine. "A lot of there windows give a really great view of the valley too--it's really quite breath taking," he said, turning his gaze toward the open window. He laughed lightly as he served the major his tea. “I’m getting there. I’m 6’1 now. My dad is only about an inch taller than I am,” he said, smiling as he took a seat.
“But I’m doing well—been focusing most of my time on my alchemical research and keeping an eye on my younger siblings,” he sighed before returning his gaze to Armstrong. “How have things been doing in Central?”
“They have been quite well, nothing interesting has been happening lately, actually it has been rather, boring since Scar up and vanished” he sighed shaking his head.
"Scar vanished?" Aaron asked, his attention caught. What exactly did he mean by vanished? "What do mean? How... did that happen?"
“That’s right,” Aaron started, glancing at the notebook in his father’s hand. “They went to go spend a few days back in Resembool while you were in Central. I decided to stay home since I had some studying I wanted to get done myself—but I’ve also got a hiking trip planned with my girlfriend for tomorrow,” he said, rubbing his head. “Though I may need to cancel on her now that you seem to have a… head injury.”
He pulled his feet up onto the desk, glancing up at him with an almost disapproving look before bringing his eyes back to the notebook, “You have a girlfriend…?” he asked, trying not to sound harsh as he changed the subject. He told himself he must’ve known about this before, and he pretended to be too involved in the book to notice what his son was saying. If Aaron had a girlfriend, he and Winry must’ve approved of it before…
"Yes, I do," Aaron said, straightening out. "Her name is Isabelle Lowe--I got to school with her," he explained. "She's a bright girl, but has a ton of energy. I swear, she bounces off the walls at times."

//I'm so sorry for not being here. This is my last week of classes, so things are going to get a little crazy. I've got 5 exams and 2 research papers haha. Next week I'll be on a role again! I'll try to reply to some of you over the course of the week, but we'll see how things go!
Aaron watched his father carefully, studying his every move. His mind simply couldn’t help but wander—what had happened to him? Had he learned or seen something he wasn’t supposed to? Or was he simply in the wrong place at the wrong time? Either way… it wasn’t going to be easy to explain to everyone else.
“Yeah, a few days early, actually,” Aaron said, pulling a book from the shelf, flipping through it carefully. “You headed off to Central on Monday and we weren’t expecting you home until Sunday—two days from now. You were visiting with Uncle Al and the fuhrer to go over some new plans you had for the State Alchemy program.”
“Right, I was visiting with Uncle Al and the fuhrer…” Edward mumbled, nodding slowly as he tried to plant that in his head. He flipped through a few more pages, taking the time to read them before continuing the conversation, “So they’ll be back on Sunday…?” he asked, looking up at Aaron as he leaned back in the chair.
"That's right," Aaron started, glancing at the notebook in his father's hand. "They went to go spend a few days back in Resembool while you were in Central. “Oh, you’re from Resembool?” Aaron asked, smiling. “I was born there—it’s where I’m originally from. It’s certainly a good place to raise such a large family,” he said, thinking of the family vacations they spent together along with their uncle Al at the old Rockbell home. There was just… always something about Resembool he’d really loved.
“Science?” Aaron blinked, closing his book. “What kind of science?” he asked before laughing sheepishly. “Ah, sorry—I’m an alchemist, so I’m pretty intrigued by the field of sciences.”
“Yeah, I moved there when I was 8. Resembool is pretty big. Whole lotta space for not that many people. But I love it there. I can’t wait for my next break, I’ll visit my mom and dad. And theres someone else I haven’t seen in a while either, that I kinda miss.
“Any kind really. Mainly medical, alchemy, and other country versions of it. Theres always something new to learn, so I figure why not. You’re an alchemist too? Anything you specialise in, or just the basics?”
"Maybe I know them," Aaron said, smiling. "After all, Resembool is one of those towns where it seems like everyone knows everyone." It was true, really. Aaron felt like he knew just about everyone there--and he didn't even really live there anymore. He supposed that it helped seeing as his parents were relatively well known.
Aaron picked up the book laying in front of him so that she could see the cover. "Well, I'm mainly focused on the basics. I've master the fundamentals--though I still feel as if I have so much more to learn," he sighed, leaning back. "Though I've also taken an interest in alkahestry lately as well."
“Alright, that sounds fair enough,” Aaron complied, laughing just the slightest. He hadn’t been totally sure who’s fault it was at either—perhaps it was the both of their faults. Well, either way, it didn’t make a difference not.
He smiled, watching her shift from left to right. “That’s exactly where my train of thought was,” he said sheepishly. “I picked up this book on alkahestry at the library,” he said, raising the book in his hand. “And well, I got a little distracted.”
“Good! I’m glad you agree with me.” Em giggled, smiling up at him shyly. “Guess we both need to work on paying attention when walking, huh?” She hugged her bag a little closer while smiling up at him. She was quite glad he didn’t get angry when they collided with one another. He seemed very easy going, and perhaps easy to talk too.
Em perked up when he showed her the book he was reading. “Oh…! I’ve heard of alkashestry, I have read a tiny bit about it, but I’m still quite new to it. I do know a little bit of alchemy, just enough to fix a broken dish and a few other things. Nothing like my big brother.” She flushed a little as she felt she was rambling to him.
“N-no it’s okay! I mean, I understand what you mean for getting distracted while reading and walking. Oh…!” Em blinked, realizing she never introduced herself. “U-um…! My name is, Emma. What’s your name?”
"I guess so," he agreed, laughing lightly. His sister always told him that he should be more aware of what's going on around him whenever he reads--though he simply couldn't help but getting completely absorbed whenever he picked up a book. Guess he had to learn that lesson the hard way.

Aaron felt his mouth slowly curve into a frown as he was told Maria’s story.
“I… I’m sorry to hear that, Lieutenant,” he said, lowering his voice as he glanced at the pavement. “It… must have been really hard on you.”
But of course it had to be. An unexpected divorce, followed by being left with a child after the death of his ex-wife? He couldn’t even imagine what pain like that must feel like. Havoc had always been a good hearted guy—he was sure that he didn’t show as much pain as he was really feeling.
He looked back up; his widening just the slightest as Havoc spoke. Did he really think that way? Letting out a light laugh, Aaron sighed. “Thanks Lieutenant—it means a lot,” he said, offering a smile. “I guess sometimes stress just gets the better of me, you know?”
Running his finger’s through his hair, Jean gave a sad smile, “Thanks a lot, ki—” He paused. Hm, he looks so much like Ed, now I’m gonna start callin’ him like that. “Aaron. And it was but, I’m just glad to have had the chance to be with her while I was.”
His chest ached again. Havoc was always willing to talk to people about whatever, even if it was her— but it never meant that it wouldn’t hurt Jean. Still, he’d wear his usual smile and stick it out like he was good. It’s how he had taught himself to be, so, why stop now? Why worry people? Why bring people down?
Nodding once more, he patted Aaron’s shoulder, “Anytime! And I understand that perfectly. Stress is never good for a person, and can cause people to overthink, think negatively, and just really mess with a person. All ya need to do is try to relax, because no matter what you do, you’re gonna be a good person.”
"It sounds like you're taking it well, lieutenant," Aaron said, smiling sympathetically. He knew it must have been difficult--but well, it really did seem as though Havoc was being strong and pulling through within all of this. That was what counted above anything else. "I hope the best for you," he said, offering a smile.
He let out a sigh as he felt Havoc's hand against his shoulder. He was right. He shouldn't let stress get the better of him. He just had to focus on improving and making himself the best he could be.
"Yeah, you're right," he laughed lightly. "I'll just focus on improving. I mean, that's part of the reason I'm in Central right now anyways," he said, scratching his head.
