This week, Game 8 was super important for everyone getting ready for the big final pitch. We split into two groups: some were entrepreneurs, and others were venture capitalists. Each group had different things to do. It was like practice for the big presentation next week. We got to work on our talking skills, get advice, and make our business idea better. For our project, we're working hard to make sure our Smoke Filtering device works well and helps with environmental and social problems.

Milestone 3 Presentation

May 26, 2024-Week 5

This week has been incredibly busy, but I'm thrilled to share that we successfully presented Milestone 3 to our class. It's been a rewarding experience, especially because it allowed us to showcase the progress we've made on our project—a portable smoke filtering device designed specifically for jeepneys.

One of the most enlightening aspects of our journey has been the continued interviews with jeepney drivers. These conversations have provided us with invaluable insights into the daily challenges they face and have confirmed that our product is not just useful, but essential for our community. The drivers have expressed a strong need for a solution that can help reduce the harmful emissions from their vehicles, which further motivates us to refine and perfect our device.

Our teacher, recognizing the potential impact of our project, suggested that we delve deeper into the specific filtering medium we plan to use: banana peels. This week, I dedicated significant time to researching the effectiveness of banana peels as a filtration medium. I discovered that banana peels are rich in natural absorbents like pectin and cellulose. These components are particularly effective at trapping pollutants and reducing emissions, making banana peels an environmentally friendly and cost-effective option for our device. The idea that something as simple and readily available as a banana peel could play a crucial role in improving air quality is both fascinating and encouraging.

The feedback and insights we've received from the community have been incredibly inspiring. They not only validate the importance of our project but also emphasize its potential impact on improving public health and the environment. Knowing that our work could contribute to cleaner air and a healthier community fills me with a sense of purpose and determination.

As we progress, I am more committed than ever to incorporating these learnings into our project. Each piece of feedback is a reminder of the real-world implications of our work and drives us to strive harder. This week, our class was cancelled due to school activities. As a result, we were tasked with finishing our Milestone 3 project, which we were unable to present because of the cancelled class.

For me, Milestone 3 was quite challenging since numbers are not my strength, and this activity required a lot of numerical analysis and assumptions. However, we managed to complete it successfully, thanks to the invaluable help from my groupmates. This experience truly demonstrated the importance of teamwork and collaboration. It reminded me that no one can succeed alone; we need the support and efforts of others to achieve our goals.

In a business context, this activity underscored the necessity of teamwork and resilience. Effective collaboration is essential for a business to thrive, and finding ways to work together despite differing schedules and tasks is crucial. This milestone proved that with determination and collective effort, we can overcome challenges and achieve our objectives.

We've emphasized the importance of understanding competitive advantage by addressing three key questions: our customers' true needs and values, our strengths, and our competitors' strengths. Incorporating these insights into our pitch deck aims to clearly convey our unique value proposition and set us apart from competitors.

Exciting Progress: Milestone 1 Update on Cleaner Jeepney Travel

This week we shared our progress on Milestone 1. We're all about making transportation cleaner, and we're really excited to show off the cool new stuff we've done with our Jeepney exhaust filter.

Our design's coolest part is a special feature. really strong fibers made from banana plants. These fibers are tough and good for the environment, which fits perfectly with our goal of making eco-friendly transport solutions. As we keep going, we promise to make our filter process even better, so our product does a great job and takes care of the environment too.

We're fully committed to always researching and developing new ways to make our filtration system even better. Our goal is to improve its quality and sustainability. This week, we have worked on pitching our latest innovation: the Smoke Filtering Device. Our presentation was a pivotal moment, where we had the chance to showcase our solution to a widespread problem: smoke pollution. Throughout our pitch, we took a step back to address the core issue, highlighting why our device is not just a game-changer but a necessity in today's world.

We started by laying out the problem plain and simple: smoke pollution is a big issue that affects countless people around the globe. Whether it's from industrial emissions, wildfires, or vehicular exhaust, the impact on air quality and health is undeniable. In fact, recent studies have shown that 15% of jeepney smoke emissions alone contribute significantly to the rapid increase of smoke pollution. This problem isn't going away on its own, and that's where our Smoke Filtering Device comes in.

One key takeaway from our pitch was the importance of starting with the problem. By clearly outlining the challenges posed by smoke pollution, we set the stage for why our solution matters. This immersive understanding becomes the bedrock upon which the team collaboratively articulates what the user truly wants and the forces that drive their motivations.

The second game introduces a visually impactful matrix, where team members select features from predefined categories. This process not only streamlines communication but also illuminates the areas of greater interest through a vibrant lightbox representation. The visual matrix becomes a dynamic guide, steering the team towards more focused and resonant solutions. An optional yet insightful activity, the Impact and Effort Matrix, propels the team into strategic decision-making by evaluating the potential impact and required effort for each idea. It became evident that exploring various perspectives through inquiry is instrumental in uncovering the nuanced layers of a situation, contributing to a more comprehensive comprehension of the matter at hand.

We were also tasked to do Game 3 in which These activities highlight the importance of collaborative envisioning, strategic planning, and structured information gathering. As a collective, we engaged in analytical processes, initially formulating five distinct Global goals. Through a randomized selection method, SDG 7 was chosen, focusing on ensuring universal access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy.

This exercise prompted the creation of a memory wall, documenting the group's comprehension and journey throughout the game.

1. Collaborative Energy Implementation": Portraying a group working together to execute a renewable energy project, emphasizing shared objectives aligned with SDG 7.

2. "Innovative Ideation Session": Representing a brainstorming session wherein the team generated inventive ideas to promote sustainable energy practices within the community.

3. "Optimizing Local Resources": Illustrating a scenario where the team identified and utilized untapped local resources to improve energy access, aligning with the Don’t Know/Know concept in SDG 7.

4. "Knowledge Acquisition from Existing Infrastructure": Depicting a positive learning experience where team members gained insights from prevailing energy infrastructure, contributing to ongoing enhancement in their projects.

"Cultivating Tomorrow's Tech Leaders: The Essence of Technopreneurship and the Power of Creative Collaboration"

As we settled into our seats, the anticipation was palpable. Engr. Jael, our guide in this technopreneurial adventure, kicked off the session with a Facebook video that served as our initiation into the course. The video was a captivating introduction to the world of technopreneurship, laying out the foundations, rules, and a sneak peek into the future tasks that awaited us.

Continuing our journey, we were assigned to take the Myers-Briggs Personality Test and the Innovation Index Test. The visual representations of our outcomes are presented in the images below, offering insights into both our personal traits and the extent of our capabilities in contributing to business endeavors.

GAME 1

What is SDG?

SDG stands for Sustainable Development Goals. The Sustainable Development Goals are a set of 17 global goals established by the United Nations in September 2015. These goals are designed to address various global challenges and promote sustainable development by 2030. The SDGs cover a wide range of issues, including poverty, hunger, health, education, gender equality, clean water, sanitation, climate action, and more. The aim is to encourage countries, organizations, and individuals to work collaboratively to achieve a more equitable, sustainable, and prosperous world. Each goal has specific targets and indicators to measure progress. The SDGs build upon the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and provide a comprehensive framework for addressing social, economic, and environmental issues on a global scale.

We have been assigned a group collaboration project called Game 1, which falls within the academic framework of our group concentrating on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Our primary focus is on critically examining and intervening in Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) - Clean Water and Sanitation. Specifically, we are addressing the pressing issue of limited access to clean drinking water in Cagayan de Oro (CDO), a challenge significantly affecting students in various areas.

After brainstorming, we have identified different problems related to the SDGs, and as a result, we have decided to work on developing a portable water filtering device to address the clean water scarcity issue.
