Can we just talk about this for a sec?
Can we not?!
Yersinia Pestis
Ring-a-ring-a-roses, a pocket full of posies; Ashes! Ashes! We all fall down.
Mother had told him not to go play outside, the fear in her voice something Aaron, barely having completed his fifth spring, was still too young to understand. And so he had left the house, just for a moment, only so he could gather some pebbles by the lake so he and Finn could have something to play with. The large columns of smoke coming from the village should have warned him something was wrong, but that was another thing little Aaron was simply too young to understand.
The first rash came that same night, just over his elbow, the golden skin blotched with red and urging him to drag his nails over it from time to time. Aaron hid that just as he his his outing, pulling down his sleeves as he closed the door behind himself and pushed a finger to his lips, begging for silence as his eyes locked with Finn's across the small common room.
"Bróðir, please don't tell mother." He finally whispered as he got close enough, ignoring the bothersome feeling in his arm, as well as the very beginning of a fever, in favor of slipping a hand into the leather pouch that stood by his belt, bringing out the smooth dark stones he had been collecting. "I went out so we would have something to do." Aaron explained, with all the propriety of his five years of age.
Things wouldn't be as easy to explain the next morning, when he would be burning with fever.
"This is impossible." Klaus shook his head, backing away from the man in front of him, "You don’t exist, they said you were dead. You were dead." The hybrid’s eyes were wide as he took in the man standing before him. Swallowing thickly. "What kind of trick is this?"
We're all dead, it was the first thing to cross Aaron's mind, but the words left a bitter taste in his mouth even before he said them. Despite death being something he had over a thousand years to get used to, the memory of it remained one of the few things able to unsettle him. Taking an unnecessary breath, the newest Original rose his hands in a placating gesture as he stepped closer to his hybrid half brother.
"It's not a trick, Niklaus, I promise. I didn't even think you would recognize me... I'm- [ s o r r y ] Hello."
“Funny that you’re bringing the doppelganger theory to a shapeshifter. Even funnier, that knowing what I am you believed me that fast. Haven’t had too many experiences with vampires, but most of you aren’t this easily convinced.” He tilted his head a bit, placing his index finger over his lips. “Either you’re really gullible, or you have some awesome mental reading ability.” David teased the other man, but without any intention of pissing the blond man off; it was just the way he did things.
Cocking an eyebrow as the brother’s name was mentioned, David’s lips curled up. “Your brother must have been pretty popular, cause casually, someone confused me with him the other day. Unless there’s another guy named Kol.” He shrugged. “Sorry for asking too many questions but, you weren’t blood related then?”“
"Most of us can't compel supernatural creatures," Aaron shrugged, a half-smile still marking his lips despite the danger that briefly flashed through his eyes and words. He couldn't read minds, but he could make them sing the truth, if he wanted them to. Besides, the Original saw nothing wrong in believing in things when they seemed true enough. Why would the shapeshifter lie to him when he didn't know who he was? Who Kol had been? Id made no sense to him and he hardly could take offense being called gullible at that.
Now he wouldn't have deemed Kol popular, mainly because that sounded too much like a good thing, but his brother surely had been around long enough and in a lot of places at that. The surprising thing was that only one person had mistaken that boy for him in Chicago of all places. Didn't his brother rule that place some decades ago? Maybe Aaron had in wrong, but there was one thing at least that he could make clear. "That's not how bloodlines work. I mean the vampires he turned, anyone that ever came from him. They all died when he did. Surely you might have noticed.. A few thousands dropping dead all over the world at once?"

For a long moment, Aiden blinked innocently at the other man, trying to comprehend what was going on. Don’t scream. The voice of the man was so clear in his head, unlike the other voices that he had been forcing back. Aiden nodded to show that he understood. Why would he scream? The other man didn’t seem to mean him any harm. He had a gentle face and it was something that Aiden liked. A calm exterior that made him want to simply trust the stranger and his words. The teacher simply stared at the man, almost as though he was waiting for new instructions.
"It’s nice to meet you, Aaron," he greeted the other, beaming at his words. Aiden simply nodded again, understanding the words, but he didn’t move just yet. "Where are we going?" the doll asked, taking a few steps towards his new acquaintance, uncertain of where to go. He knew that he had a task at hand but by some unseen force, he just knew he couldn’t leave the other man, nor deny his request. "If I’m going to leave, shouldn’t I at least tell the class? At least give them their work for the day before I disappear…" He tapped the small suit case he had along with him, as though showing off what he had prepared.
There it was, the smile. Just like Aaron remembered it and equally as warming. And despite all he had ever known on the Other Side yelling at him that things simply couldn't be that easy, he found them to be just so. He had asked nicely and the man would agree to follow him, no guilt of compulsion needed as Aiden smiled at him. Surely he couldn't agree to everything, he was a person after all, but he could agree to come.
"No. No classes. If you finish them that guy will come to get you and we have to go before he does." Certainly Aaron could take one simple man, physical or compellingly so, but for all his might and power the Original often forgot exactly how strong he was. Instead he reached forward, fingers clasping as gently as they could around the teacher's wrist and tugging him forward just so. A simple suggestion in what could have been a superhuman push, followed by the much more powerful compulsion of those deep blue eyes, magical or not. "Please?"

SEXUAL TENSION VERSION (can be nsfw, better used with ships)
There was something so oddly familiar in the man’s eyes, but to his recollection, he had never met him. The sun beginning to glimmer through the windows as it set, his eyes lowered in short contemplation. Revealing himself a true Mikaelson, Henrik asked in his low, charming drawl,
“What’s in it for me?”
It was as surreal as it could possibly get, Aaron assumed. Standing before the one brother he never really got to even watch, the one whose name was carved beside him on that cave wall. Henrik Mikaelson had no glimmer of recognition in his eyes, nothing to offer him but a smile that although charming managed to leave the eldest of the Originals uncomfortable, try and he might to remain unaffected by the smirk and question.
"Why there always has to be something to win with you guys? Can't you just be nice for once and let me in even though I forgot to bring you a teddy bear or like a blood offering?"

Aiden picked up his briefcase and marched out of the van where Steve, his handler, remained in position. It was the same every day since the school had hired him. He’d be dropped off, Aiden would head to his class and carry on with his normal lesson as a substitute teacher and come back to Steve for his treatment. And he liked the routine. He enjoyed teaching very much, despite being a temp his kids seemed to enjoy his presence. What more could he really ask for. “I’ll see you later,” he bid the man farewell as he marched along the school quadrangle, nodding to fellow faculty and students that he ran into.
The substitute had always been fascinated with the university, which was why he always opted to come around early so that he could enjoy the surroundings, and let the life of the school itself breath into him. Taking a sharp turn around one of the hallways, he gasped, stopping abruptly as he almost ran into another man. He chuckled apologetically. “Sorry. I didn’t see you there.” The man did look familiar, as though he had seen him before, but he couldn’t exactly tell how or where he might have seen him.
"You a new member of the faculty?" he asked the stranger, extending his hand out to him. "I’m Aiden. I teach history."
He had been watching the teacher for a while now, almost a whole week. It was safe to say Aaron found himself intrigued. Everyday, Monday to Saturday the man would come, dropped off by another man the vampire didn't pay attention to, teach his lessons and go home, almost like he had a mission. Except his home wasn't really a home and there was something off about the man who dropped him off. Still Aaron liked him, the teacher, had even sat through one of his lessons just to be sure. The way he explained things was good, unlike when most people tried to explain him something, and he had a nice smile. Aaron had always liked smiles. That pretty much settled it.
From the moment he had returned to the plane of the living Aaron had found himself at odds with what the world had become in his absence. Technology, medicine, science... All fascinating things he knew too little about. Too little to function, some might even say. There was no need to talk to a witch for him to understand what needed to be done. Aaron needed to learn, and fast. So he found himself drawn to places of learning, compelled his way into classes and even made friendship with some students. However, the very basic world knowledge of those students was alien to him, and it became clear what he really needed. A teacher. Aiden would be that for him, he just knew.
The moment he decided it was time to take action, felt even proper when Aiden himself almost collided into him. Don't scream, the words hanged at the tip of his tongue, a perfect mirror of his siblings and unnecessary when he was not a threat himself. A predator, yes, but hardly a threat. Swallowing those words down the vampire traded them for a smile, wide and bright and nothing like what he was about to do.
"Hello Aiden, I'm Aaron and I need you to come with me."

He is the lick of flame that makes dry wood crackle, the spark that singes a hole in your sweater, the roaring inferno that ravages forests and homes. He is the flickering funeral pyre, he is the smoldering ashes from which the phoenix rises, he is the burning passion that blazes in the eyes of a man inspired. He is fire, scorching and hypnotic and cleansing, and he cannot be extinguished.
“So we should probably talk about this…” said Caroline, the minute he opened the door. She’d thought about calling him but there was no easy way to say so hey, my stupid memory spell wore off, I remember kissing you and a whole bunch of other stuff, can we talk?
She took a deep breath, gave a shaky smile. “I remember… Pretty much everything. Aside from, like, a couple of blank spots from when I was five or something but I figure that’s normal, uhm… Can I come in?”
There wasn't even time for a smile to fully bloom into Aaron's lips at the sight of Caroline and the blond was already talking. It wouldn't usually bother the Original, used as he was to chatting with the girl, but then there was the added weight of exactly what she was saying. She remembered... There was so much weight to those two simple words.
With a nod he allowed her inside, closing the door to his apartment behind her and only then turning to look at Caroline, blue eyes as stern as they have ever been in the presence of what had become his... Well, he wouldn't know what to call the two of them. His girlfriend? His friend. At the end of the day all that mattered was that she was something of his, or at least had been.
"So... You remember. How did that happen?"
Chorus of Fools
His muscles were rigid as he worked to keep the anger at bay, to keep the uncertainty from slipping out of his thoughts and onto his features. Above anything he wanted to believe him. To believe he had actually come to see him, but his trust had been broken one too many times. Either way he hated this. He hated all of it. Even if Aaron wasn’t acting out the sad puppy look. Because then what would this mean? Then he was just showing his true colors to someone that cared, wasn’t he? And Esther had taken full advantage of Aaron’s naivety. Using his innocence as a weapon to destroy them and clean up her mess. He was too disgusted to even form proper words to describe it. He loathed her, loathed every fiber of her being.
A sigh escaped him, a means to calm himself as his eyes dropped to a close. The words stung. The manner in which they were spoken even more. If Aaron really was as stupid and gullible as he seemed, then he would need all the help he could get. He would need someone to guide him or he would only run into more trouble than he could have bargained for. Finn didn’t want to get mixed up in it, risk his neck just in case his thoughts on the matter turned out to be true. There was still the ever present chance this was all fake.
But what if it wasn’t? Didn’t he owe to him to at least find out? Didn’t he owe that to himself? He was not asking for much, and as long as he knew what he was up to he could not go after their siblings either. Perhaps it was more of a win-win situation than he had thought at first. “I’m not who you want me to be, Aaron” he replied cryptically before keeping quiet again for a long while. Almost deciding on not saying anything else at all, perhaps it was enough to shoo him off and be done with this.
Then again he couldn’t. Couldn’t just leave him to his own devices and be left wondering what would come of him. It was best altogether to keep an eye on him. “I can give you a day, perhaps two” he finally sighed. “There’s an Inn not far from here, let’s just go there.”
He had done it, at last. Wore his brother down to the last tatters of his patience. It wasn't like Finn had been happy to see him from the beginning, but now his brother was just downright angry, even Aaron could see that. Muscles tense, posture rigid as a board and that annoyed crease in between his eyes that reminded Aaron of mother when she had tried and failed to be stern with him. It was fair to say Finn more than succeeded where Esther had not.
As Finn annoyance grew Aaron's hopes dwindled to a wisp. His brother wouldn't stay, didn't care enough to do so and so much was clear not only in his looks but in the harsh words he threw over and over again at the once strong wall of Aaron's belief. I’m not who you want me to be, Finn had snarled, and all the eldest Mikaelson thought of that was the simple truth of denial. "I just want you to be my brother." It didn't look like he would be getting that any time soon.
Despite his avenger role, his mother's plans and father's will, Aaron had always wanted a family. From the moment the plague took him away, it had been what he had longed for on the other side, all he'd known and all he'd missed. Despite being an only child through all of his short lived existence, he had known there were more Mikaelsons to come. His mother's belly had been swollen when he had fallen ill. Elijah would be his first brother and it was with stories of companionship and adventures with his future siblings that Esther would distract him from his fever and pain. He didn't live to meet Elijah, to be a big brother like he had dreamed of. In the big scheme of things this was just another thing that got taken away from him.
The smile that took over the moment Finn agreed to let him stay was the one Aaron had been famous for as a child. Wide open and bright, of the kind that light up any room and the exact same grin he had bestowed on Finn the moment they have met. There was no design of deceit or lies in his happiness, nothing but the true glee f being allowed a chance. Perhaps Finn was right to think him gullible, but Aaron was never taught any different. Surely he knew how to lie, but there was naivety in his discernment of when to do it, same as there was no idea in his mind of why someone would hide their true feelings, no past hurt to have taught him so.
"What are we waiting for then, 'cmon brother!" As he spoke a wet hand clasped around Finn's wrist, already having forgotten how ill his brother looked while being touched and tugging him along towards the village. "I need to remember how great water heaters are. Have you saw those? They're so awesome."
David wasn’t expecting vampire as a response, specially seeing how the other walked so freely under the sunlight. He was about to open his mouth to make a witty remark, but he had to shut it down again as soon as the blond showed him the ring on his finger. Setting his gaze down to the man’s hand, David give him a short nod, before looking back up. “Well, isn’t this little thing useful?” He commented to himself, lips turning up into a smile again. More like a cheeky grin. “That’s just a really weird coincidence, your brother and I must share some similar genetic mutation.” His expression dropped suddenly at the realization. “Wait..have you just said 'happened to be'?”
Wasn't the shifter taking that well? All witty remarks and charming smirks, or at least that was the case until Aaron had to let that one little past tensed verb slip. "Well, seeing as we were born over a thousand years ago, I was actually wondering if you could be his doppelganger or something. We seemed to be cursed with a nasty case of those every few centuries." He had to tame down a shrug, they weren't really his problem anyway, more like his siblings' curse. Still there was something to be said about another supernatural roaming around the country with his dead little brother's face.
"He died. Kol. He and his whole bloodline." And Aaron couldn't say he was too bummed about it.
All parents damage their children. It cannot be helped. Youth, like pristine glass, absorbs the prints of its handlers. Some parents smudge, others crack, a few shatter childhoods completely into jagged little pieces, beyond repair.
Mitch Albom, The Five People You Meet in Heaven (via observando)
The corners of David’s lips tugged up on slight smile at the man spoke again. He had realized he was a shapeshifter, so the man himself should be a monster as well. What he was exactly, David didn’t know, but surely was someone who had never seen him before. “You’re the first person asking me that. Weird, but original, I guess.” He made a small pause, before speaking again. ”Answering your question, this is the real me. Handsome, I know.” David joked, adopting a more relaxed posture. “Now, real question is, what are you?”
Oh it was Original indeed. The thought alone made Aaron chuckle, a little shake of his head ridding him from the amusement before he could focus once more at the men before him and the matter at hand. "I am a vampire." He finally replied, the enthusiasm from a few moments ago gone from his tone as he raised his hand and allowed the silver band around one finger to gleam under the light. "Daylight ring. And you see what's the really weird thing? That happened to be the face of my brother."
The Lost Prince and the Runaway Princess
Elena smiled. Finally someone who has no idea I am a Princess. No expectations. I could really like him Elena took his hand. “Thank you sir, but I am very capable of taking care of myself. ” she teased. There was something different about this man. Elijah and other noblemen were always being protective and telling her she shouldn’t fight the boys, and to be careful. But when this tried to help, it was not the same. It felt like less of an obligation and more of sincere. Princes are used to being gentlemen to ladies. All royals were raised to be proper. But here was a guy wasn’t held to any expectations. He was his own man. And to noble blood he’d be a ‘nobody’, but to her he was most certainly a somebody. She figured he must be curious why she was on this side of town. She could tell he knew she was of a different class than him, but that didn’t seem to phase him. That made her keep that smile on her face.
She laughed slightly. “In case you were wondering I was running away from home.” She shrugged. “Money and nobility isn’t as grand as the hype says it is. Too much is expected of you. You’re told how to stand, how to walk, how to talk, who to love.” She rolled her eyes. “And if you’re a girl god forbid you ever punch a man. Because fighting is for men only.” She crinkled her nose. “I am only eighteen and my parents want me to get married to someone of their choosing. My mother threw in the mix a Prince I known since I was little.” She found it too amusing. “He’s from a different Kingdom of course, but when I was little I used to sneak out of our home and managed to walk the long distances and found myself outside their castle often.” Elena shrugged. “The only Princess teased me a lot, her brother Kol would tattle on me and my parents would come get me.” She remember the funny tale. “I should’ve learned my lesson running off to Royals castles when Prince Kol always sent for my parents. But I did not. My mother thinks it’s because of Prince Elijah, to whom is my friend, and the prince whose one of my suitors.”
She frowned. “But Elijah is like a big brother to me. I don’t want to be married to a Royal I see as a brother.” She sighed. “Even if it’d make me a Queen one day.” She never let on she was a princess to this man. She told the story as if she was just some random girl from wealth that managed to mingle with other Kingdom’s royal children. “That and he’s a lot older than me. It makes me feel weird. I know it’s common for people my age to be married to men old enough to be their fathers to join Kingdoms and make peace, but I am not like that. I don’t want marriage to be a peace treaty, or a contract between two houses. I want to fall in love with a man closer to my age, if not my age. I want the fairy tales people tell you. I never understood why people of noble blood felt their children were bargaining chips to me shipped off in a wedding gown to the Church of peace making” She knew her mother wouldn’t approve of her remotely joking about what their society was based on, but she was sick of the culture of arranged marriages, and girls being told how to dress and act. “I have a mind of my own. I don’t need society telling me what to do and what to say.”
It was a long tirade the noble girl dove into, going on and on about princes and royals while Aaron merely stared, mouth slightly open now and then, whenever he thought her rant to be close to an end. Her story made him hazy with the bouts of information, head shaking as he attempt to get a grip and put away his offered hand. Clearly the lady could look after herself, at least around him that was. What he gathered from her words, besides a blatant dislike for arranged marriages, was that surely she must have a high birth, being offered the hand of princes and dwelling in castles. A countess or more, surely not the kind of girl that should be seen on this side of town or walking around with a blacksmith's son. And running away from home, no less! They could have his head for this, and despite all that Aaron was already sure of one thing: he would help her.
"With all due respect, milady, your plan doesn't seem to be exactly thought through." He smiled despite his words, leading the way into his forge and forgoing the offer of a hand this time. "This is a harsh part of town and you're about as easy to spot as a gold coin on a dirt road." His eyes dared for a moment, looking over the girl from her pretty delicate shoes to her partially hidden face. Even through the hood she wore Aaron could see the traces of high cheekbones, red lips and a gaze that had him looking away and fighting down a blush, nervously fixing the laces of his shirt before he started going around looking for his after-mentioned cloak. The girl was pretty, far too pretty for the likes of him to be staring at, and inside his dirty forge she stood out like a sore thumb.
"I'm sorry but I'm afraid nothing here is fit for a lady like you...." It seemed almost rude, offering her his worn out cape, the fabric mended in more than one place by his very own rudimentary stitches. But it was all he had at the moment and god forbid he would let the lady walk away from here in danger. "It's all I have, but it should be enough to disguise you a lil' better." He smiled somewhat crookedly, hoping she would just take his offer.
David looked at the blond guy standing close to him. There was something unnerving about him, and he couldn’t figure out what that was exactly. He didn’t seem like anyone from the Duvals, but he couldn’t be sure. “Do you need something or you’re just gonna stand there?”
The whole thing was so odd Aaron was left staring for longer than he would have liked. The men standing before him looked just like his little brother, mischievous thing Kol was, however the audible heartbeat made it clear that was no vampire to begin with. Shaking his head the Original brought a weary smile to his lips, head tilted slightly to the side as his blue eyes bore down on the creature.
"I was wondering what you really look like?"
