Asia had been the last resort, the place where Jove and Thalassa had wrapped up all their far-flung dreams and ambitions. The border had started small, previously isolated to the Greater Los Angeles region, and had repeatedly expanded until they found themselves train hopping in Thailand. California had not yielded success, so they tried Nevada. Then the desert proved untenable, so why not try the east coast? And when the price tags grew too high, they moved out beyond the country, hopping between whatever nation might give them a shot until Jove said, “Why not Japan?” He’d scrounged up reasons — he had family there, it was a beautiful country, it would remind them of home. She hadn’t needed convincing. She would have followed him over stone and salt, through pyre and poverty. Her father had always offered her material comfort and a legacy on which to sit and hold privilege, but that was all. The rest was just an assembly of injury, a pile that she’d kneel at the foot of and pick apart like cleaning some unkempt house full of hoarded things, with that miserable legacy right on top. Jove lacked money, employment, and frankly much of anything, but his emotional generosity was more than anyone she’d ever known. As such, she had no qualms bearing his child.

My piece for @aaweddingzine is here! I had great fun writing this (as I tend to do with Jove/Thalassa stuff) so I thank the mods IMMENSELY for indulging me and letting me be a part of this amazing project

I'm so thankful for being chosen to participate in the zine, it was a such a blast and everything came out looking amazing (psst: there's leftover sales going on right now!) and I'm glad I can finally post this <3

summary:

The unholiness of the two of them, human as they are and gossiping like fishwives, and yet the coming together between the pews… there is something about it. They are running a little too close to the venue’s intended purpose; a meeting across the aisle of two kindred spirits, united in purpose. …Gumshoe has got to stop looking at him like that.

you know me, i'm incredibly klapollopilled, of course i'm drawing these two suckers for the wedding zine! <3 something about klapollo marriage makes me incredibly emo so i'm very glad for the opportunity to go all out so i can be EXTRA emo about it 😈

if i remember right, i think this idea came to be when i thought about the image of klavier bursting into tears as he lifts up apollo's veil and it all went from there LOL (also so psyched i get to draw him in a barong tagalog <333)

everything got so much more ambitious, though, from that initial idea! i drew like what (i am counting the number of characters in the spread right now as i type) 40-ISH CHARACTERS ALL IN ALL?! (WHAT THE FUCKDFGDHJ) and i even had to cut out some of the characters i originally had in the sketch 😭 (sorry gumshoe, kay, and seb/eustace ....)

i drew this like a year ago and i'm still so proud of this piece! i don't think i can achieve this level of rendering again, it's been so long i forgot how to do it LMAO

(also i can never reopen the file for this thing again bc it makes clip studio want to dieeeee DFSGHDJ so many layers ...)

another thing, i was working on this in tandem with my piece for the mea culpa zine; do you know how funny it is to draw apollo having such a happy moment and then draw him dying 😭 the contrast, the whiplash

that's all i have to ramble about i think, i'm so so so amazed at this zine bc my zinemates truly made some spectacular pieces of art! :"^D if you have the chance, please do check it out! 💗
