Ancient Gems
Gems in the Roman world served a lot of different roles, often at the same time. They could be a kind of signature or sign of identification, so they were sometimes used as a seal.
Gems could also be magical amulets, engraved with spells and texts and used for protection or for good fortune. Sometimes the material itself was seen to have magical properties, like hematite (the last gem on the light green background is hematite). And some were just fancy jewelry!
