So I wrote a scene way back in the day between Betty and Archie after their Season 2 kiss, and I brought some of it back and changed it up a bit to fit context. I guess Iām wishing how it all went down was more in this particular vein of tone, and I decide to share it, because why not?

Betty: All of this, it doesnāt matter. Itās not real. Whatever this is, or was, needs to be over. Itās for the best.
Archie: How? How is any of this for the best?
Betty: Because itās easier this way. Now we can justā¦bury it, and not worry about hurting anyone.
Archie: Bury it? You mean act like nothing ever happened?
Betty: Like it was all just a bad dream. Ā
Archie: So kissing me was like a bad dream for you?
Betty: You know what I mean. We can forget about it.
Archie: And you really think thatās something you can do? Ā
Betty: We donāt have much of a choice.
Archie: But we do have a choice, Betty! And I choose to-
Betty: -Archie? Jughead is your best. Friend.
Archie: So are you.
Betty: And you feel safe with me! Thatās all this is. That kissā¦our adrenaline was pumping, our emotions were running wild, and weā¦ made a mistake. An innocent mistake.
Archie(steadfast, not breaking her gaze): It didnāt feel like it was a mistake to me. Being with you feels nothing like a mistake.
:Betty is visibly taken aback by this comment, but as Archie steps forward, she instinctively steps back:
Betty: Arch, come on. Weāve been through this before, remember? Nothings changed, except this time were standing down in this bunker, not on your front steps. You love Veronica. She loves you. And I love Jughead. Thatās how it was always meant to be. Thatās whatās real.
:They stand there, staring at each other, softly. Archie wants to argue, itās on the tip of his tongue, but he knows better. Betty breaks first:
Betty (smiling, but tears are in her eyes): Soā¦go! What are you waiting for? Go, be happy! Sheās probably expecting you. I have to go see Jug, iāll catch up with you later.
:Betty turns to leave, her smile fades, tears fall down her cheeks :
Archie: Hey, Betty?
Betty(closing her eyes, defeated, still turned away from him): Yea, Arch?
Archie: Did it really not mean anything to you?
Betty: Of course it did.
