"I don’t understand." Annalise’s voice was as scratchy as her scales when she had her tail whipped out. Her normal cheery blue eyes were more than a touch of hollow. Only her voice was anything but.
"Why-why did you do that?" She was unused to hearing her heart beat so…
"Where’d I come from?" Annalise repeated eyebrows arched. It was a good question but it was unlikely she had a good answer. "From the water I guess…"
She stared down at the body of the lost boy. He was all but a child. A small one at that. "But-" he did try and kill her. "-that is true. I'm understand he was attacking you but death should always be the last resort!" Her voice raised to a level it didn't normally sustain. She took a long deep breath in. "I'm sorry I shouldn't of imposed but...he's just a child. I don't understand why he attacked you and why you had to kill him."

She found it illuminating. The way the stars sparkled in the sky. It was different on the ground though. Instead of floating as she did in the water, she was lying down. Feet dug into sand, hair entangled in it.
She was quickly pulled from her thoughts by the sound of a carving. Wood being cut. It was something she familiarized herself with so she could tell when sailors were coming to try and find fishes. She pulled herself up and cupped her eyes trying to find something through the darkness. "Hello?" She asked timidly.

Darkness was a near constant on the island now.
Storm clouds won over against blue skies and overtook the sun with no contest. Even the ground lacked its luster, excessive rainfall turning light dirt to dark mud. It was almost hard to distinguish night from day, if it weren’t for the stars.

Annalise never thought much about sleep. In the water you could sleep just about anywhere. All you had to do was relax and float and then let your mind drift.
On land she found it much more difficult. Finding a comfortable place to rest was a problem in its own right. Annalise though found herself lucky that she wasn’t to choosy. Drifting to sleep was the biggest issue of all though. The sounds that filled her ears excited her to no end. With every noise she wanted to jump up and run towards it. Only she knew better then to do that. She needed sleep. So she forced herself to drift as well as she could…
Until she heard a noise she couldn’t very well ignore. Music under the water was a delicacy. Especially for someone of her background, she found herself lucky just hearing a single note. Her heart swelled as the tune filled her ears. She couldn’t tell the difference between good or bad or even if if it were in key. But she loved it all the same. "So this is what music is..." She smiled softly to herself. "It's wonderful."
"I’d like to think so." Annalise spoke. "I mean not physically of course, I’m not one to lie, I have no such idea of how to use these magnificent legs but…" She took a deep breath hoping her next words wouldn’t cost her anything. "I’m not as blonde as I seem. I know…I know…

"Why-why did you do that?" She was unused to hearing her heart beat so fluently and she normally found it amazing when she did, but at a time like this the notion irked her. She felt bile rising in her throat but she pushed it down.
She ignored the churning of her stomach and sent a glance towards the thing before lying dead on the ground. Cold. Unmoving. Dead.
It wasn’t right.
"But that doesn’t make sense. Theres no reason for one to kill unless wronged. Or at least for some reason. Killing for no reason it’s…there’s nothing to gain! As much as I utterly despise it, I know well enough that most human-no-most anything-will not do anything without…

Annalise wasn’t one to deny the truth. And the truth being that Cheney not only didn’t trust her but for some reason found her annoying. She couldn’t help her personality. She could only hope that Cheney would some day get used to it. She didn’t plan on leaving this girl…

"Is that so?" Annalise asked unsurely. "I mean, if not ‘impossible’ then what would be the word to describe it? Improbable? Evolutionary? A dream?" Annalise shook her head. "All these words for this single place and yet impossible isn’t one of them. What is one?"
"More mermaids around." Annalise repeated with delight. "That sounds amazing." She paused. "How I came here..." Annalise thought for a moment. "Hm...oh yes. That's right. It was a storm the other night and then there was this light. I followed it and found myself here." She looked over the girl before. "You're a fairy, yes? I mean you do have wings and you're surely to pretty to be a bird. Unless you are. Then, in which, I apologize profoundly."
