Abandoned Targets of Canada is complete!
This site documents the 133 Target stores that once operated in Canada and captures them in the days, weeks, and months after their closure. It was conceived as a photographic study in retail melancholy and an online participatory art project that would examine the connections between space and sadness, the commercial and the uncanny.
Many, many thanks to all of the site's roving correspondents from across the country who took the time and made the effort to visit the suburban parking lots and edgeland wastes that are home to these spaces of retail melancholy. The site will serve as an archived reminder of the moment in time when Target and its failure remained visible on the Canadian landscape, and functioned as an uncanny and unsettling memento mori.
