Day 2: Nienna, Lady of MercyĀ
āShe is acquainted with grief, and mourns for every wound that Arda has suffered in the marring of Melkor. So great was her sorrow, as the music unfolded, that her song turned to lamentation long before its end, and the sound of mourning was woven into the themes of the World before it began.ā
NEEDšTHATšMANšPREGNANT *SEASON TWO* ROUND 4 POLL 3
TUMBLR! Who's getting pregnant?
Senshi of Izganda (Dungeon Meshi)
Optimus Prime (Transformers)
PROPAGANDA:
[Senshi]
"You know he'd take such good care of his body and eat extra well to make sure that the baby arrives healthy and strong. Also, he'd make such a good father."
"He's perfect mother material also just look at those tits."
"Dude is peak malewife material AND dad material, why wouldn't we need him pregnant??"
"Mom friend of the group. Would probably infodump about pregnancy if it were relevant. He and Chilchuck would have beautiful children. <3"
[Optimus]
"He's already got massive tits, and there's no way Ratchet hasn't been trying to knock him up in their spare time."
"He's The Father Figure. He is Everyone's Dad. He has an artifact that gives him the divine right of kings and is named after the Latin word for womb. He would be a tender lover and a good father."
"He breedable."
"That man's got hips and boobs for days, why hips and boobs if not pregnant material? Andā I am in carnal need of seeing him bred WHAT WHO SAID THAT."
"He's the hot dad of the 80s we just need to make it technically official. And round preggers Prime is just. š¤¤The man is a demigod alien robot and he plays basketball. He surfs. Please god I need him pregnant right now."
Fuck yāall this on god breaks my heart.
But
Remember⦠these bots are a dying race. Millions of year of war have decimated the species.
So we need Robo Godās chosen to have many immaculate pregnancies to bring the endangered species back.
No but actually, please please let Optimus win
This isn't fair THIS ISNT FAIR AUUUUGH UGHHHH UGH. UGHH. UGH. U G H
OK so Senshi is awesome but he has been through enough I couldn't imagine putting him through pregnancy. Vote Optimus Prime, he can handle it and he'd be a really, really good dad. He's very strong and profoundly gentle.
I think Senshi would have a far better time with an adoption plotline rather than a pregnancy plotline. Him saving kids he finds lost in the dungeon and cooking them soup...
That is to say VOTE OPTIMUS PRIME WOOO
Ok if this ask gets 100 notes (excluding my own) I'll make a 'Get this Robot Pregnant' Poll since TOO MANY are losing RN.
You should just do it.
Heh... new keychains.... >:)
I've been working on these since easter istg i just haven't had the motivation to post lmao also if i see movie spoilers under this post i'm launching the nukes.

Since Ghost Yuan doesn't really have a described design, I wanted to make one myself ^-^ (based on @particle90272's svsss x tgcf fic That Time I Transmigrated As A God).
I added a satchel because of how he liked collecting plants and other things, made his robes more earth-toned so he could blend in better, + a dagger in case he can't use his magic bow. #BIGHATSUPREMACY I don't think NEARLY enough fics give Shen Yuan a giant mysterious hat sighhh
Here's some more doodles hehe
Shen Jiu: This is Shen Yuan, my brother
Yue Qingyuan: I don't remember you having a brother?
Shen Jiu: Well you also forgot to come back to me, so clearly your memory can't be trusted!
Yue Qingyuan, crying internally: Of course, sorry Xiao Jiu
Freshly Transmigrated Shen Yuan: ...nice to meet you? This is awkward
What do the men in the fire nation wear typically? And how does it differ from other nations and womenās wear?
I actually have a tag that showcases all the character designs of each nation's population. Check it out:
#people of... ā @atlaculture on Tumblr
For the Fire Nation, most regular men wear their hair in a topknot. For the women, there's flexibility in how they can wear their hair. I imagine that the topknots of the Fire Nation embody their militant culture, so there's probably more social pressure for their men to wear their hair that way.
Three fashion trends that are unique to the Fire Nation are curly-toe shoes, the triangular shoulder pieces, and aprons/loin cloths worn over pants.

Cultural Cuisine: Dinner with the Beifongs
I've been wanting to analyze the dishes the Beifong were offering for years now, but procrastinated because I knew it would be time-consuming. After much research, I'm pretty satisfied with the headcanon I've created!
My theory? The Beifongs did not want Aang to feel welcome in their home, even before he started bickering with Toph. Allow me to provide the evidence.
Red Braised Spare Ribs
Red-Braised Spare Ribs or Hong Shao Pai Gu (ēŗ¢ē§ęéŖØ) is a popular Chinese pork dish characterized by its sweet and savory flavor profile. This is achieved through the red-braising method: Cooking the ribs in a mixture of light & dark soy sauce, rock sugar, Shaoxing wine, and other aromatics like ginger & star anise.
While I've had this style of ribs before, this has to be the most decadent plating of the dish I have ever seen. Not only is there a giant pile of the spare ribs, but they literally lined the bowl with extra slices of marrow-filled bone. As delicious as that looks to a meat-eater, don't you think it's a bit tasteless to display all of that in front of a monk?
Sweet and Sour Fish
Sweet and Sour Fish or Tangā Cu āYu (ē³éé±¼) is a beloved Chinese dish composed of a battered & fried fish covered in pineapple, red bell pepper, and the ever-iconic sweet & sour sauce.
However, it seems like the chef skimped a little on the sauce and toppings, calling even more attention to the dead fish on a plate...
Pan Fried Pork Buns
Pan-Fried Pork Buns, also known as Sheng Jian Bao (ēē å ) or Sheng Jian Mantou (ēē é¦å¤“), are a popular Chinese specialty. They're beloved for their contrast in textures and flavors: They combine a soft, fluffy top with a crispy, golden-brown bottom and juicy pork filling.
Not much to say, other than the Beifongs are pretty much serving up the entire pig at this point.
Steamed Lobster Tail
I'm guessing the Steamed Lobster Tails (čøé¾č¦å°¾) were served to ensure they had equal-parts seafood and pork dishes on the table. When I think of Chinese lobster dishes, I always think of the Cantonese-style lobster tails served at the fancy sit-down restaurants in California.
Soy Sauce Braised Chicken Wings
This one might be a bit of a stretch, but that bowl of light brown ovals looks like braised chicken wings to me. Soy sauce braised chicken wings or hóngshÄo jÄ« yƬ (ē“ ēéēæ¼) are a popular dish known for their sweet and savory flavor, as well as their glossy, sticky glaze. They're a staple of Chinese-American restaurants.
Compared to the previous ATLA meals I've covered, the meat-content of this dinner is kind of ridiculous.
Fried Rice
A staple of every Chinese restaurant, from mom-n-pop takeout joints to the most bourgeois of banquet halls. Fried rice can be vegetarian, but I'm pretty certain that the Beifongs' version had meat in it, since there wasn't any on Aang's plate.
So what exactly did Aang get to eat during this decadent feast?
Aang's Meal
Tea. Soup. Scallion Fried Rice. Giant Pile of Plain Rice.
And that's it.
They had one of the most important people in the world as their honored guest and the Beifongs served him the kind of meal that a broke college student might think to make. Admittedly, the scallion fried rice looks tasty but it's still just rice and green onion.
You expect me to believe that the richest family in the Earth Kingdom could only provide the Avatar with rice and soup? When there's plenty of vegetarian options within Earth Kingdom cuisine?
No, this was a very passive-aggressive way of telling Aang that he can go eff right off. Why did they not want him there? Probably because they knew his presence in their house meant he needed their help with the war effort, and they are just too wealthy to bother caring about anything outside their rich person bubble.
This has been bugging me for ages and I feel like youāre the only other blog who would appreciate my conundrum here. Do you think people in the avatar-verse drink cowās milk?
On the one hand the lost lore archive seemingly confirms that cow-pigs produce ādeliciousā milk, but how canon can we really consider that? On the other hand, if you didnāt already know, most humans are lactose intolerant. The gene for lactase persistence (the ability to digest milk past babyhood) originated in the Middle East or Europe and spread from there. Even today East Asia has some of the highest rates of lactose intolerance in the world, and lactase tolerance was virtually nonexistent in North America pre-colonisation. Not drinking cowās milk is the norm for humanity, not the exception, so I just think it would be cool to have at least one fantasy world where the main characters are lactose intolerant and soy milk is the norm.
Granted, given that cheese can be made to be palatable to lactose intolerant people and that there does seem to have been some lactase persistence traditionally in northern Indian and Himalayan regions (at least at a cursory research glance), you would probably expect it to vary by region and culture. Maybe cow-pig milk is consumed in only certain regions and otherwise usually made into cheese. I personally headcanon that air nomads eat sky bison cheese, which might taste similar to chhurpi.
From what I've read, dairy cows aren't native to East Asia, hence the lack of cow milk in most of the traditional cuisine of that region. I would say that cow-pig milk in Avatar might just be a local delicacy unique to the EK town from "Zuko Alone".
However, a predisposition towards lactose intolerance is not necessarily a permanent roadblock to enjoying milk products. Speaking from personal experience, I can generally build up my tolerance for dairy if I make a point of drinking milk every day. However, if I take a break of more than a week, then I have to start the whole process over again.
As for the consumption of other animal milks...
Based off cultural inspiration, the Air Nomads likely had close to 100% lactase persistence. Dairy is a huge part of Tibetan and other Himalayan cuisine. Plus, if Appa is any indication, sky bisons were roughly the size of sperm whales. Assuming there was a sky bison for every nomad, there was probably enough extra milk produced for it to become a staple of the Air Nomad diet.
The Northern Water Tribe probably has some lactase persistence, since they have Mongolian and Sakha cultural influence in addition to Inuit. Both Mongolian and Sakha culture are known for their consumption of mare's milk, both as a drink and as an ingredient in dishes. Plus, the NWT canonically has Buffalo-Yaks, which is a combination of two animals whose milk is commonly consumed in parts of Asia. Lactase persistence might not be as strong in the Southern Water Tribe, who don't seem to have domesticated any milk-producing animals.
The Earth Kingdom probably only has lactase persistence in certain regions, such as the village in "Zuko Alone". This aligns with its primary cultural inspiration, China. While most of China does not have a cheese-making tradition, there are pockets of regional cheeses: cow and goat acid cheeses in Yunnan, fermented cow milk cheeses in Xinjiang, and yak cheeses in the Tibetan and Mongolian autonomous regions. However, on the whole, I think most EK citizens stick to non-dairy milks made from soy, seeds, or nuts.
Finally, there's the Fire Nation. I don't think they drink much milk. In addition to China, the Fire Nation's other major cultural influences are Southeast Asia (Thailand, especially) and Japan. Historically, none of these cultures consumed much animal milk. I think the Fire Nation's choice of milks would be soy, sesame, coconut, or peanut.
Aren't arctic camels a domesticated animal in the swt? camel milk is a pretty common staple among people who keep them (and I know several north American farmers that have brought camels. onto their farms specifically for milk!) Sami people also milk reindeer, but immmmm not sure how well snow leopard caribou would take to being milked
You're right! In Korra, we do see arctic camels, so the SWT likely consumes dairy regularly, at least in the post-war period. This would imply that Katara and Sokka have some lactase persistence. I can just imagine Sokka bringing this up whenever a game or situation requires the Gaang to split into teams:
Sokka: Alright, Team 1 will be me, Katara, and Aang. That leaves Suki, Toph, and Zuko for Team 2. Suki: Are you basing this off seniority in the group or something? Sokka: More like who can handle a few rounds of drinks without turning into a tomato. Team 2: *glares* Sokka: Kidding! It's based on who can have a milkshake without turning into a walking stink bomb---*gets dirtball to the face*
Okay, this really got my cartography brain going, so...
Lactase Persistence in the world of Avatar: The Last Airbender!
The map is inspired by the above thread, but also some additional real-world biological anthropology, heavily referenced from this paper.
This is so awesome! My only recommendation is that you add a character on the right and left sides of the map like the original Avatar world map:
However, instead of longevity, it should be the character for milk:
儶
It's also the character for breastfeeding/tits so win-win!
That ask about SWT place names got me wondering, is there any etymology for Agna Qāela?
I believe so!
What's in a Name: Agna Qel'a
Agna is a root morpheme for "adult female" in many dialects of Inupiat (the Inuit language spoken in Northern Alaska). This is just a fancy way of saying that many Inupiat words related to women have the sound "agna" in them. For example:
Agnak - Woman
Agnaga - Wife
Agnakatiga - Cousin born to your mother's sister
Agnasalluk - Female animal
Also, for anyone wondering, the morpheme for "adult woman" in other Inuit & Yupik languages is "arna".
Qela is a Proto-Eskimo* root morpheme that is now pronounced as Kila/Qila in modern Inuit and Yupik languages. I've seen all three renderings used in relation to the same concept: Conjuring spirits. The morpheme qela/kila/qila appears in words related to summoning the supernatural, such as a shaman's drum (qilaut/kilaun) or their word for the Christian heaven (qilak/kilak). In Yupik, the qela morpheme does remain in certain words, such as their word for the Holy Spirit (Eprilnguq Qela) or the power to conjure spirits for divination (qelatu).
In other words, Agna Qel'a could roughly mean something like "Woman Who Summons Spirits" or even "Female Conjured Spirit".
From a meta perspective, this is obviously a reference to Yue's ultimate fate. However, this has apparently been the capital's name since at least Kyoshi's era. The "Qel'a" part of the name further emphasizes the ancient nature of the capital. This makes me wonder...
Could it be a long-standing tradition for Tui and La to give away portions of their life essence to babies in the Northern Water Tribe?
Obviously, the Moon Spirit and Ocean Spirit are aware of how fragile their koi bodies are, hence why they're kept hidden in the Spirit Oasis. Maybe another of their precautions is to create "backups" through lending their life essence to sickly babies? In a world before modern medicine, there's certainly no shortage of infants facing mortality. Perhaps Yue's situation wasn't so unique.
And, if that is the case, maybe Tui and La prefer to give their life essence to baby girls, since women don't participate in battles in the Northern Water Tribe. And perhaps that's why the male-dominated NWT calls its capital Agna Qel'a ("Woman Who Summons Spirits") rather than Angu Qel'a ("Man Who Summons Spirits") or Inuk Qel'a ("Human Who Summons Spirits").
*While the word eskimo is a derogatory term in Canada, it is still used in Alaska and linguistics as an umbrella term for "Indigenous Tundra peoples of North America".

Decided to update the post when I noticed that one of the Yupik words for the Holy Spirit is Eprilnguq Qela. The use of this word for Agna Qel'a implies that the spirits of the Northern Water Tribe are akin to holy beings.
Cultural Practices: Medicine in ATLA
I thought Iād do a quick overview of the medicines and treatments that we see employed in ATLA. This post will be a little different from the usual, as itāll include a few personal anecdotes from yours truly and a content warning since some medical practices can be a bit gruesome to describe.
Chi Pathways
Also known as the meridian system orĀ jÄ«ngluò (ē¶ēµ”), these are the metaphysicalĀ āveinsā through which chi flows. Although modern science rejects the existence of the meridian system, belief in chi pathways forms the basis for many treatments within Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Cinobufagin
Also known as Huachansu (åč¾ē“ ) orĀ āChinese Toad Essenceā, it refers to the practice of using secretions from the skin of Asiatic toads for medicinal purposes. The chemical, cinobufagin, found in these secretions has been known to have many beneficial effects in humans:
Pain Relief
Strengthens Immunity
Cancer Cell Suppression & Reduction
In TCM, cinobufagin is extracted by drying toad skin and steeping it in hot water, essentially using it to brew a medicinal āteaā. However, thanks to modern science, cinobufagin can now also be taken via pill or injection.
For obvious reasons, Aang couldnāt exactly be shown drying and skinning pond critters to make hot froggy juice. Canāt say how effective sucking on frozen frogs is for curing the cold, but Iām sure someone out there has tried it. I will say, I never related harder to Aang then when the herbalist tells him to go gather frogs for medicine and he just looks bewildered. My grandparents were strong believers in the health benefits of toad skin and used to have me hunt for them during fishing trips.
Fire Cupping
When Zuko takes Iroh to a local Earth Kingdom clinic to cure his uncleās poisoning, fire cupping orĀ bĆ”guĆ nĀ (ęē½) is briefly shown as another treatment available there. Here is a quick description of the process from the Wikipedia page:
Fire cupping involves soaking a cotton ball in almost pure alcohol. The cotton is clamped by a pair of forceps and lit via match or lighter, and, in one motion, placed into the cup and quickly removed, while the cup is placed on the skin. The fire uses up all the oxygen in the cup which creates a negative pressure inside the cup. The cup is then quickly placed onto the body and the negative pressure āsucksā the skin up.
According to TCM, the purpose of cupping is to dislodge stagnant blood and encourage circulation, thereby improving chi flow to cure common ailments. My headcanon is that this treatment is a specialty of the Fire Nation cause, you know, fire cupping. It also ties into the importance of body heat in firebending and would be aĀ pretty decent treatment for a chi-blocked body; I also headcanon chi-blocking as having roots in firebending.
I have second hand experience with fire cupping. My mother once tried fire cupping on my dad but I think she might have overheated the cups because he ended up getting pretty big blisters on his back. You can imagine what happened when he accidentally rolled over on to his back while sleepingā¦
Moral of the Story: Please leave all medical treatments, both traditional and modern, to trained professionals.
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is probably the most well-known type of TCM in the English-speaking world. It is the practice of inserting very thin metal needles into the skin along the meridian system to improve chi flow.Ā As far as I know, porcupine needles have never been used. ;-) Acupuncture is typically used to treat various types of body pain and stiffness.Ā
Surprisingly, I actually donāt have any real life experience with acupuncture. As far as headcanon goes, I imagine this might be a specialty of the Earth Kingdom once metalbending becomes more commonplace.
In the near future, Iāll probably make a post detailing other traditional Asian and Indigenous medicines that would work well in the Avatar world.
Like what Iām doing? Tips always appreciated, never expected. ^_^
