The cold air hits your stiff body that sits in a chair of the somehow now colder ER. Zoning out as you're hit with questions from left to right, staring off into what could've been with Jack.
Your eyes drift down to the bloodied gown that sits loosely on your body. Cold latex hugging at your hands, no more warmth. None at all, no more Jack to comfort you.
You turn to see a body bag, lifeless, no movement. "Abbot." written in all black. His age, birthdate.
"You have to take it off." You look up to see the red stained eyes of Robby. A small "No" escapes from you as you shake your head.
"Come on." He tugs at the ties of the protective gown. You push his hands off you as you stand. "Fuck I said no Robby." Louder than intended.
He backs off in surrender. "You can't keep it on forever." A pause. "He wouldn't have wanted that." Your eyes shut as you huff.

"We have both of morning and night shift in for this mass casualty, we are getting ambulances rerouted to our emergency room." Your fiancé explains as all of the ER forms a circle for a rundown plan.
"Wristbands given to each patient coming in gives a rundown on how fast they should be seen." You let out loudly standing next to him as you hold up different colored wristbands.
He nods in agreement as he makes sure the rest of the staff are paying attention.
"Nothing like a lovely rundown from Mr and Mrs Abbot." Shen says as he sips on his coffee. You let out a huffed laugh as Jack grumbles. Turning to your right as you see Jack admiring you, something he's always done from the day you first met.
"It's not official yet." You respond as Jack's jaw drops.
"That 14k rock on your finger begs to differ sweetheart." He tsks as you hand out wristbands to staff.
"Could've gave her more Abbot." Dana lets out as she preps the patient areas.
He shoots her a look as she laughs. "Just joking, it's a beautiful ring."
It really is. You hum as you look at the ring that sits on your finger, it's your favorite color. Jack always knew even the smallest things about you. So the fact that he picked out something so meaningful in your favorite color reminds you of exactly why you said yes.
"Alright let's do this." Jack claps his hands as everyone heads towards their stations and the ambulance bay. You look at him as you let out a small admiring smile.
"See something you like?" He questions with a smug look.
"You wish Abbot, this is work time." He nods remembering the casualty that has fallen upon the ER today.
"Also before we head our separate ways, I made a folder of somethings I think would be nice at the wedding and some invitation mockups." You raise an eyebrow.
"Wow really?" You question as he laughs "Am I not capable?" He responds as you roll your eyes.
"Well talk more after this shift ok?" You nod as he gives your forehead a quick peck."
That never came, there was no after or later.

You're in trauma 2 with Robby, Santos, Whitaker, and Javadi. Working on a patient with a lodged bullet that hit their chest. "We're gonna need more blood." You let out as your chest gets heavier from your surroundings.
"Whitaker run and get an extra bag actually not you Olgivie go." Robby demands as Olgivie runs to get an extra bag. The cold air becomes hot as you all work on one patient.
A loud bang is heard as you flinch. Then a second one. Then screams.
"We can't leave this patient." You huff as Robby shakes his head. "We have to." He says as people run past trauma 2. Shit. "Ok." You let out as all of you guys rush out.
"Where's Jack?" You ask as you see Shen and the rest of the night shift running towards the nearest exit. Where is he? you see swat bring down the shooter, behind them in trauma 3 a half open curtain, bloody floor, an arm reaching out. Jack? your heartbeat rapids.
"Jack." You yell as you pull back the half open curtain. No please no. You kneel as you see him laid back blood rushing from an open wound.
"You're ok baby, I promise." Your hand applying pressure to the wound. "Robby." You yell out as you hear the sound of the squeaky floor behind you. "Jesus." Robby lets out horrified as you both lift him up onto the gurney.
"He's bleeding out from the shoulder." Robby groans as he tries to get a closer look. "Close to an artery." Fuck.
"H-hey." You look down under you as you see Jack put on the closest thing he can get to a smile. Your eyes flood with tears as you shake your head, you know what this is. His goodbye.
"No Jack, Robby and everyone else including me are gonna help you ok?" You huff as he holds your hand tight. Robby looks up at you as he shakes his head. "It hit it."
"I know you can't reverse the damage sweetheart." Jack coughs up as his other arm reaches out to hold your face close to his as you kneel down close to the gurney. "Why Jack?" You question as you sniffle.
"You know I can't help but bud in." He lets out a sarcastic laugh answering you. Of course he can't, it's what he's destined to do like he's always told you.
Tears escape your eyes as his warm palm touches your face. "Don't cry."
"You are always pretty when you cry tho." He laughs softly as you give him a small laugh. "There you are." He smiles.
"Throughout the time here, Im glad fate lead us together." Your head drops as you can't look at him. Please, not him.
"From the moment Robby introduced you as one of our student doctors I knew our ER was gonna be even better, and the fact that I got to get to know you outside of this place." His voice breaks.
"The fact that I got to call you my fiancée, and wake up next to you everyday." He raises your chin up to look at him.
"Was more than I could ever ask for, you will always be my why." He gives you a smile as you give him one back even if you're faking it for him. You want to cry, and cry not smile.
"I love you, and I want you to move on...don't hold onto me." He looks at you waiting for your answer. You give him a small nod in return.
His warm hand leaves yours as his palm drops. Flatline.
No, no no. Please Jack please. Robby comes up behind you as you shake your head, why?

The apartment lingers with his smell. His jacket lingering on the couch. An untouched folder labeled "Wedding Plans" sat on the kitchen table. You're sat across from it as your heavy eyes linger at the folder.
You walk over to it as your hands smooth over the pink colored folder. A small picture of you and him taped over it brings a small smile to your face.
Inside were invitations, multiple along with a guest list scribbled in his messy writing, your eyes gave upon a tucked note.
"Can't wait to marry you." The grief hits all over again because you got another reminder of the future Jack had planned with you, that you never got to have together, and how excited he was for the life you were supposed to share together.
