You know it's interesting, on the surface Lifesteal seems like a server of people all seeking immortality. The entire premise is killing others to add their vitality to your own. But then you dig a little deeper and everyone's relationship to the very concept becomes a lot more contentious.
It's something I've thought about in the past. Is it better to be born immortal, or to achieve it through your own means?
Branzy's heart factory in Season 5 made him functionally immortal. He'd achieved something no one else on Lifesteal had and arguably became the most powerful person there, because no matter how much he was killed, he could never die. He didn't bother keeping twenty hearts equipped the way all the top pvpers did because he didn't need to. He had an infinite supply to replace any he lost. Leaving his heart count at ten was a statement. There was no actual risk to him.
Today while chatting with Bad on the Realm, Derapchu lamented his newfound immortality. He's someone like Branzy, well acquainted with death and desperate to escape it. And yet once the risk of death is removed, there's an emptiness left behind. The risk is what makes life worth living.
And at the end of the day, even Clown jumps into the void with his friends when it's time for a new cycle of Lifesteal.
