Evaluate 23 Mobile Things

I learned something at each step. Some apps I will use again, some I won't. My favorites were Vine, Snapchat, and Candy Crush. My daughter would say that I'm finally getting into 21st century. I was a little embarrassed by some of the apps I hadn't tried before. It was worth my time. I struggled to make it a priority, so I played catch up to make the deadline.

Discovering apps

I downloaded Quixey. Interesting. I searched some of my hobbies. I found a cool quilting calculator. I am sure I'll use that. I can think of numerous times I could have used it in the past. I searched a couple other hobbies with a little less success. I can see how useful this app will be.

Free-for-all

I would have posted on this one sooner, but I was still playing Candy Crush. One of my most used apps is At Bat the MLB app. I use it all baseball season long to listen to the Twins and catch up on games I've missed. I had a foreign exchange student this year and Translate was an app I used frequently in the beginning to help us communicate.

Games

I loaded candy crush. I love bejeweled so I am loving this game too. 400 hundred levels, huh? I am in big trouble!

Hobbies

I tried Vivino Wine Scanner, ESPN SportsCenter, and Handyman Calculator. I don't drink a lot of wine so I never can remember what I like. This will come in handy. ESPN is a useful tool. I like keeping up when i am on the go. Handyman Calculator was pretty cool. I always have some project going on.

Education

I downloaded eat this not that. All I can say is addicting!

Connecting to Community

I had never seen the Rochester Now app before. I loaded it and played with it. Mostly it was links to websites including RPLs. I found the events calendar from the RCVB very easy to use. I also played with the Mayo Clinic app.

Audio

I downloaded sound cloud. I recorded my son. I also started following a couple organizations.

Infographics

I couldn't find either of the apps in my Play Store.

Presentations

I downloaded Deck. I love the concept but I had a lot of trouble. Every time I added a word, the cursor jumped to the beginning of the line. This happened when I added the title slide as well as well as captioning. I liked on their webpage and i googled it. I finally gave up.

Books, books, and more books

I tried the Free Books app. The first thing I tried was an audio book that it wanted me to pay for. Arghh. I hate that. I went on to find a number of free titles of interest.

Library and Reference

I had never tried elm4you.org on my smart phone. Good to know and try. I use the overdrive app regularly on my phone.

Sharing Photos

My daughter said I had to try Snapchat. I've been resisting because I can't understand all the weird selfies that she takes. I did try it. I talked to my nephew. That's the good part. My daughter thinks I am a little cooler. Not sure about that.

Social Media Management Tools

I downloaded HootSuite a few days ago. It's interesting to see how the feeds from Facebook are different from Hootsuite. I think I see more posts in hootsuite.

Content Sharing

I've been avoiding Pinterest because I've heard so many people talk about how their time disappears when they are on it. I bit the bullet and created an account, took the tour, and started using it. Watch out! If I don't post anything new here, you'll know why.
