This painting was part inspired to be brought to completion after I was gifted a Dollop of #michealharding Pink from the master herself @feliciaforte. It was a photo I took during a very isolated period of my life in West Seattle. I’m not a big drinker usually, so I opted for cherry coke as a replacement vice and treated the Luna Cafe like my bar earning this painting the title “Social Drinker.” Most interesting to me is how those drab isolation tactics seemed would never serve me in the future at the time, yet here we are again. #painting #pink #cherrycoke #isolation #socialdrinking #quarentinetales #oilpainting #westseattle #napcult

My lady partner has this kinda neat pink computer and even more amazing is her single pink sock that is usually floating around. I’m telling you, that pink sock is my favorite, boy howdy. Yesterday’s #fortesqchallenge! The theme was “Pink,” so Allie and I set up a still life and went straight to paint! Alla prima all the way. Honsteltly though: that made it really difficult. I made the painting surface waaahhhyy too whet. Made a neat effect in some areas that I liked. I have a lot to say about what I’m doing here.

Our society it seems is being threatened by a virus of potentially historic proportions, but I don’t sense this is the real genesis of most people’s panic. We’ve seen a lot of finger pointing, supply hoarding, and doomsday calling going on and when I asked myself why as I paid homage to my a$$ napkins in graphite I suspect the fears and concerns aren’t new, just evolved from an already growing frustration. I think we’re scared because our way of life is under siege and it’s for a life that (for most of us) seems handed down from people who didn’t think about our future. Without our jobs, schools or transportation we are practically sitting ducks awaiting a death via suffocation, but this isn’t new. We get sick all the damn time and ignore it because if we don’t suck it up we starve or our children starve. The human element is absent in how we define success. Social media talks about cheap flights and school closures but underneath that I worry we’re struggling to come together to lift one another’s spirits up in tough times.

My message is this: let’s kick this thing in the teeth, together. It’s hard to Ignore the blame game as the chaos highlights our already thin patience with greedy racist power hungry politicians or our flawed and uncooperative systems but get into the head space that we’re not going to let this divide and weaken our communities. If you have elderly in your kin, keep them on your radar. Wash your hands, your phones, your door handles and your steering wheel often. Don’t let your situation keep you silent- reach out for help and make sure to lend help when others call for it.

TLDR; It’s okay to be scared, it’s okay to be frustrated. This is a test to see if we can survive and survival has always been won by communities that work hard and lift each other up. I’m with you guys and I am keeping the message positive. Let’s beat this thing

I’ve been having difficulty keeping myself on a painting schedule so I thought “Hey f*ck it, I’ll take a class at Palomar. What better way to force me to paint more often.” And sure enough that’s helping a lot.👏🏻 So this is a painting of two figure statues I’m currently studying- wip. I mean… just paint, ya know? The dark truth is we all have to put our heads down and become invisible at some point just to survive in this excessive consumer culture.
