Update + Where she’s been

If you asked Amber where she’s been the answer would beeeeee

Suffering.

No seriously. She was not prepared for traveling. She thought she was, but she wasn’t. 

Her first night out in the woods had a failed campfire, and her rage quitting making a tent by  9 pm. She snacked on trail mix with Squirt, and vowed that the next day would be better.

Friday, rained on her, and she didn’t realize the problems that posed until after several hours playing in the rain.

Yesterday, she started getting the hang of things. She even caught a Pidgey! Her name is Libby. Since Libby could be short for Liberty, and Liberty is another word for freedom, and to fly is to be free. It was clear all day too! 

Today, she reached Viridian City. She dropped to her knees dramatically at the first signs of paved road. Libby circled back around as she had flown ahead a little bit, while Squirt laughed. 

“Alright, Libby, back in your ball,”Amber said after picking herself up. She then picked Squirt up, worried that she’d lose him otherwise. Viridian was huge after all. She had only been there once, and that was with her family, so being here on her own was worrying.

Or it would be, if her sister wasn’t standing there waiting for her. “You made it! Come on, I’ll show you around.”

“Midoriiiiii,”Amber whined,”Why are you here? I thought I was gonna do this on my owwwn.” “First, you’re not on your own,”Midori corrected,”You have your pokemon with you. And second, there’s nothing wrong with accepting help now and again.”

“Did you have help?”

“Well no, but-”

“Then I can do it on my own too!”

“- I also didn’t have a big sister, who’s going to show you the basics whether you like it or not.” 

And that is how tutorial mode began.

Squirtle Squad’s day off

“I f i n a l l y have my starter! And now it’s off to Viridian!

Midori says it takes a couple days, but I bet I can beat that!”

Starting Day

Amber looked at her alarm clock in alarm. She wasn’t late yet, but she needed to be out of the house in 5 minutes to have a chance of being on time. She threw on her clothes, and grabbed her bag. A quick hug to everyone, a poptart, and she was out the door.

She had just finished stuffing the poptart in her mouth when she saw something nyoom by in the corner of her eye. Turning, she saw a catlike pokemon flying by. The moment seemed to last forever, but then Amber realized she had to keep moving.

“Aaaaah! I hope I’m not late!” She took off in the direction of Oak’s Lab, leaving the strange creature behind. 

Slamming open the doors of the lab, Sam panted out,”I’m here! I exist!” And a quieter,”I’m not late am I?” After being assured that she wasn’t, in fact, late, she was led up the stairs to where the starter pokemon were kept. 

While Professor Oak did keep plenty of starters on hand, the three he was most known for giving out were sitting on the table in the middle of the room. Amber, of course, ran straight to the Squirtle, getting up in his face.

“Lookit you!” She squealed,”You’re just as cute as Midori’s Squirtle-no! You’re even cuter!” She picked up the confused pokemon and spun around, as an exasperated Professor Oak explained about starter pokemon and how pokeballs worked, and the Pokedex. Amber nodded along, but really, she was thinking about what to name her new pokemon. 

Eventually, the Professor handed her some pokeballs, and a brand new pokedex, and let her on her way. Her family would probably be waiting for her outside, but she took her time wanting to think of a name first.

“Squirt...maybe? Squirt? Squiiiiirt....Hnnnn.....Yes! I think that’s what I’ll call you!”

A Birthday Party

“Awe! It’s so cute!” “It” Being a Sewadle themed sleeping bag. Amber put it next to her other birthday presents, which consisted of more supplies she’d need. This year was a small affair, some of her friends have already left. Also, it was a day early. This is because she was planning to head out in the morning to get a good distance towards Viridian. That was the last of her presents. All that was left was dinner and cake! Midori had given up on having two cakes by now, but there was still plenty to go around.

After Midori and Amber’s birthday party, Amber was packing. She was two bags in and working on a third when Midori knocked on her door. “You’re not taking all of that are you?”

“So what if I am?”Amber huffed, puffing out her cheeks.

“That’s way too much! Remember, you’re going to have to carry everything you pack by yourself. So. Pack. Light.”

Amber looked at her bags, and then at her sister,”This isn’t light?”

“No, here. Let me help you. What do you have so far?” She looked through the bags,”First, you don’t need an entire bag dedicated to toys and stuffed animals. How about you pick one?” Amber huffed, but after losing a game of rock paper scissors, she gave in, and picked one. 

Packing went by like this until it was her bed time. She sat her bag by the door, and picked out the outfit she was going to wear tomorrow, before going to bed.

....Well, she was in bed at least. She’d be playing with hand puppets for another hour.

2 days Until the Start

“Okay Blastoise, let’s do it again!” Midori shouted. She was lucky the yard was big enough for her starter, really. At least now she had something to do while her sister stubbornly refused her help getting ready. 

And she had come all the way back home to see her off too.

Said sister was watching the Blastoise instead of working on getting things together like she was supposed to. Gosh, her sister was so cool, and her Blastoise was awesome too. She grinned at the thought of in two days she would be old enough to get her own Squirtle.

“Alright! I won’t get anywhere if I don’t start getting my stuff ready to pack!” And there would barely be any time tomorrow with the birthday party for her and Midori. 

“I wonder if one doll will be enough though...”
