February 2018: Olga Rei & Valentine Uhovski, Founders @artruby
“In many ways, art has never been more global or unifying,” Rei and Uhovski tell us. “Twenty years ago, it was improbable for teens in Brooklyn to aspire to see Kusama sculptures in Tokyo in person. Our mission for Art Ruby was always to spotlight some of the most incredible pieces by both established and emerging names. Much of art is digitized and fast these days, but great content also motivates art lovers to actually be in the museum and gallery spaces, and to fall in love with truly mesmerizing pieces. Great work can truly give anyone a jolt of inspiration.”
Once a month, we ask our favorite art world insiders to share their top 10+ recommendations of amazing art to see in the cities our Absolut Art artists call home: from NYC to Hong Kong and everywhere in between. Our handy little guide to help satisfy the art-curious adventurer in all of us. For February, Olga Rei & Valentine Uhovski, founders at ArtRuby.com, share their top picks from around the globe.
Artist to watch?
Curtis Talwst Santiago
We’re both always incredibly moved by Santiago’s work. He’s a phenomenally versatile artist who gained notice for his timely sculpture work, constructed inside of jewelry boxes. And his paintings, drawings, and photographs are so striking, sincere and sublime too.
