How exactly are you concluding that this tattoo is bioessentialist? Did the person announce, "This is my bioessentialist tattoo"? Did it include any symbolism explicitly linked to bioessentialist values? Or could it be about surviving ovarian cancer? Could it represent a trans person reclaiming anatomy they once hated? Could it be solidarity with others who have uteruses? Could it be a commentary about the dehumanization faced by trans people with uteruses or dysphoria?! Without context, what does a simple illustration of a uterus have to do with bioessentialism?
If a perisex "passing" man had a uterus tattoo, a keychain with a uterus on it or anything of this nature , would you immediately assume he's a bioessentialist perisex trans man, or would you gather more data first? How do you leap from inked skin to declaring that someone's entire identity revolves around an organ that they must absolutely no other explanations or possibilities be defined by gender standards invented by white supremacist cishet men, the same ones who assigned colors and hobbies to children and created AFAB/AMAB classifications that signal which intersex infants are suitable candidates for intersex genital mutilation (IGM) or "corrective" forced hormone therapy? You are aware that it's perfectly legal in the event the genitalia isnât âabnormal enoughâ to operate on that itâs so incredibly common for perisex surgeons and health practitioners to lie about documented intersex conditions to their patients and gaslight them to believe they are perisex right?
Your biggest error is making sweeping judgments and supporting a community making horribly dehumanizing statements of others based on one person. So what if one trans man gets a uterus tattoo in poor taste? That's valid criticism IF that's what happened. But many commenters are now declaring that ANY trans man, male-aligned person, non binary or other identity label person with a uterus who positively associates with that organ is automatically a bioessentialist or itâs a potential dog-whistle for such. Damn man do you go outside?! Iâve seen people cis, trans, perisex and beyond are getting products with uteruses illustrated on them or to look like uteruses such as keychains, necklaces, pillows, plushies crochet patternsâ no judgment there. But one tattoo supposedly represents an entire community and entire mindset without sufficient evidence?
I'm rewriting this because my first response came from a younger system member and was poorly executed which is a far criticism to give. Beyond that, you need to consider perspectives beyond your narrow perisex cis trans framework. When you shut down, demean, and degrade a gender-nonconforming intersex trans man for discussing social, hormonal, and bodily variations rarely spoken about, you're the one being inappropriate. If you don't want to hear about our experiences as GNC intersex trans people, don't engage with our content. It's that simple.
You can't clutch your pearls and say our discussion in a past comment retelling our our transitional journey experiences which are non binary, and gender non conforming transitional goals which includes mentions of intersex genitalia along with different methods of HRT that are very important parts of having lived intersectionality experiences of transphobia; intersexism and TGNCphobia is âcrude and inappropriate". But you turn around supporting discussions made by binary trans men who go into far more explicit details about their bodies, kinks, HRT changes which include discussions of genitalia growth, general transition goals in positivism, education or informative ways but this isnât fine?! The entire topic is already about hormones, bodies, and identity yet suddenly it's scandalous when coming from an intersex person? You're dismissing us as "only defending them because they're trans," ignoring any other possible connections or complexities.
So, Iâll restate even if this person genuinely was being bioessentialist, that doesn't justify attacking everyone who might have a uterus or have a depiction of one whether in ink or otherwise because you cannot conceptualize the possible different intentions to be had here. Be honest, youâve probably gotten a questionably tacky tattoo or knew someone who did if they could afford them. We've all made mistakes without realizing the implications of certain symbols. That's their consequence and their choice.
Would I personally get a uterus tattoo? No, not because it's tacky and even if I held that opinion who cares, I wouldnât because ink is expensive and I'd rather fill my body with nerdy shit. If it was important to that person, that's their business. The intention could genuinely be to showcase trans journeys that don't fit the rigid narrative: "To be trans male or male aligned, I must hate my vagina, uterus, and breasts. To be valid, I must always despise these body parts." Anything deviating from this gets labeled tacky, clocky, or worseâ fetishization by the binary perisex trans community when 99.9% of the time it's just varsex, altsex, intersex, and gender-nonconforming representation.
So you waltzed into MY space with nothing to show for that degree besides your pompous, maggot-eaten brain and tick infested hide to defecate fresh loads of assumption shit nuggets about me and about communities barely mentioned in the original discussion.
