Jim is like “shit wait you can do that”

Gene Roddenberry: Jim and Spock are t’hy’la. But like, not in a gay way. I mean, yeah, t’hy’la means “friend, brother, and lover”, but Jim and Spock aren’t lovers. I mean sure I based their friendship on Alexander and Hephaestion, who were super gay for each other, but that was Ancient Greece, and this is the 23rd century. There are no gays in the 23rd century…unless there are in which case maybe Jim and Spock could conceivably be lovers, but they totally aren’t, I swear. Even though I made up this Vulcan word to describe their relationship and made sure to mention that it has romantic connotations. Totally not gay. Yup.
