dr. michael " mike " adam dobby the man that you are. given that we don't actually get any explanation of why he was trying to make a brain scanner, i still stand by the thought that he was looking for a way to survive his brain cancer, in SOME way. to leave SOME part of himself behind. that's why i think scratch and abel being the same person is so compelling, because if they are it means he did the same exact thing again. he was scared of the possibility of dying, made some kind of copy or backup of his mind files -- but it didn’t seem to work. and he died. and his ideas were only realized after caine got ahold of them.

( and, considering whatever weird shit sent caine to the void after kinger " deleted " him, maybe abel isn't gone yk. just. somewhere out there. idk any excuse to let him survive in some way. )

at his core he's so. afraid. he would rather destroy and rebuild himself over and over and over again than accept that this is all that's left for him and. idk i feel like that kinda falls in line with the themes of the show. if they explored scratch and the other devs more.

//ok now that i've had some time to process. a little bit 🤏 upset we didn't get more answers regarding scratch and the original dev team. like we're dropping that he made the headset 2 minutes in and not? exploring it further ? we do the whole huge sequence with abstracted jax ( which was really cool to be fair ) but wgat about. the rest of them. we establish scratch as an important person to the circus's history in the previous two episodes ,, he was the first member and the first abstraction and HELPED MAKE CAINE and MADE THE BRAIN SCANNER, and has all these weird, specific ties to abel. and yet

//i enjoyed the finale overall but it does leave a lot to be desired for me. the series needed a little more breathing room ( more episodes ) methinks

//the icon for the other ai being a piece of abstract art is soooo scratch coded ( lol ) i'm TELLING you. esp with a very specific visual connection being made between scratch and abstract art earlier in the episode, while kinger was talking about him. additionally, if remnants of the blue ai still exist, it would still be a part of caine, would it not? not a separate entity anymore ;; and the name "???" suggests to me that caine. doesn't know what the hell this thing is

//also like i've said, "i must hand it to you, G̣░αη░, your mind was always resourceful" to me, is waaaaay to personal to be bubble ( though later text does match his usual tone more ) and i doubt caine would ever refer to them -- kinger especially -- by their real names. maybe i'm just scratchpilled but i really like the thought of him being the one trying to trip kinger up. the rest of the text can be caine and bubble idc it makes sense they would also be involved, but. still.

obligatory "scratch never abstracted" verse but he's just like a neighbor you don't really know. nice enough but kind of reclusive and bad at talking to people. tends to stay in his room. jumpy. paranoid. deeply uncomfortable around caine ( and weirdly also kinger?? but he won't explain why. ) wants to be seen as cool but just comes off as like a dorky history teacher that's trying too hard to be hip with the kids

he's long accepted that he can't leave the circus, but he HASN'T accepted that caine and his adventures are all there is for them.

where kinger's memories are often too jumbled to tell everyone the truth of this place, scratch actively keeps his involvement with it a secret ( his memory isn't the best, either, but that's more a " brain tumor " thing than a " losing his mind " thing. )

for reference of his behavior around the others, it really is just abel. he tries to be dramatic and cool, but it rarely lands. he doesn't always explain himself ( and when he does, it's not very well ) instead opting to say shit like " you'll find out soon enough " and change the subject. like i said, he's just a dorky history teacher that's trying too hard.

the beef he has with caine is insane. he will argue with him until the end of time. has a habit of calling him " that thing "
