francis abernathy was his name;
ââMais, vrai, jâai trop pleuré! Les aubes sont navrantesâ (But, truly, I have wept too much! The dawns are heartbreaking). What a sad and beautiful line that is. Iâd always hoped that someday Iâd have the chance to use itâ
Foggy Nelson’s ties appreciation post
I kept thinking “someone has to screenshot all of Foggy’s ridiculous ties” and I figured I might as well be that someone (Especially because I need someone to tell me what the pattern of the last two are supposed to be, I can’t figure them out to save my life.)

Jimmy Carter, 1976.
Wishing former President Jimmy Carter a speedy recovery, so he can get back to doing some of this.

Joanna’s style, her taste is so refined that…she’s interested in, almost in the expressions and communication between the words. The word is just a kind of a fake gloss on what’s really going on and quite often the spatial dynamics of what the bodies are doing in space, who’s not looking at who, who’s turning away from whom, the organist silence, the kind of paralyzing, stifling quiet of no one speaking can often speak a thousand words.
66. Archipelago: Guineafowl (2010)
Archipelago is a super naturalistic British film about a family away on holiday. There are no moving camera shots and there’s no music throughout the whole film. However the film manages to make the event of a woman complaining about her meal in a restaurant into one of the most mortifyingly awkward scenes. I was squirming and covering my eyes when I saw it.

Archipelago (2010)
Joanna Hogg: The first thing I asked Tom to read before “Archipelago” was Dostoevsky’s “The Idiot”, before I’d even written a word. Tom, there was one other work, which you suggested I look at… We don’t have to mention it… [whispers] “The Snowman”. Tom Hiddleston Oh, “The Snowman”, absolutely! I don’t know how I came to think of it. I think I’d watched it recently and Edward was swimming around in my head. It’s beautiful. Joanna Hogg: I thought it was spot on. Tom Hiddleston: I saw this boy and thought: Edward is this boy grown up. So those pyjamas Edward wears are those pyjamas from “The Snowman”. I don’t wear those pyjamas! It helped when we went around getting costumes from charity shops in west London. [x]
Director/muse relationships: Joanna Hogg & Tom Hiddleston
Films together: Unrelated (2007), Archipelago (2012), Exhibition (2013)
We had a brilliant phone conversation in January 2009. I’d been thinking of doing a film about a young man struggling in a family – someone who was good but with guilt on his shoulders. I started talking to Tom and I wanted to know what it felt like being a 28-year-old man. -Joanna Hogg
